Matt Bomer, star of the USA series White Collar, has joined the ab-worthy cast of hunks who’ll play male strippers in Magic Mike, Steven Soderbergh’s next film. So far, Soderbergh has cast Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey. Magic Mike is a Saturday Night Fever-style coming of age story. Tatum plays the title character, who schools a young dancer (Pettyfer) in how to hustle on and off the stage. The inspiration was Channing’s own experiences as a stripper when he was 19. Nick Wechsler is producing with Tatum, Gregory Jacobs and Reid Carolin. Carolin wrote the script. Soderbergh has called the film “sexy, funny and shocking” using Saturday Night Fever as a model. Bomer will next be seen in the Andrew Niccol-directed In Time, playing the pivotal role of a wealthy man who gives the protagonist (Justin Timberlake) a shot at a longer life. Check out that trailer:

Wow, I’ve seen that In Time trailer a half-dozen times and each time I would’ve sworn that that character was played by Henry Cavill.
The essence of Cavill’s wooden acting can’t be captured by any mere lookalike.
hilarious!
Dear God, if nothing else this is one stunningly beautiful film. OK Soderbergh I am officially intrigued, let’s see what you’ve got.
Here here! Very intrigued indeed.
Matt Bomer is so sexy and talented. I am happy he is doing movies apart from White Collar. He is so talented and now I want to see this movie.
Yay. Another reason to feel less like a man.
The most beautiful man in the world in a stripper film – sign me up!
I LOLed IRL at this comment. And, yes.
I thought Soderbergh was retiring. It was supposed to Liberace, then The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and then done. Guess not!
I’m definitely intrigued by this movie, not only because of the delectable cast, including Matt Bomer (White Collar is one of those “everything comes to a stop while it’s on” shows at my house), but also by the fact that Steven Soderbergh is directing it, and the equally interesting story.
So… count me in!
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.?
Hmmm, well if Clooney opts out Matt is the perfect age for Napoleon Solo.
This movie will be gayer then 300.
Wow. I suddenly feel like sending a Thank You card to the casting director. I mean, wow.
All joking aside, if done well this movie could be a lot of fun.
Magic Mike will either be a bloody mess, or a religious experience. Matt Bomer is the most beautiful man alive.
the bomer on the big screen again, ptl!
If Matt is in this, I’m there as well. THE most beautiful man ever!
“Saturday Night Fever” – ish? Doesn’t sound interesting to me. BUT since Matt Bomer is in this, I think I will watch this. He’s such a talented actor, I can’t wait to see it.
Have you seen “Saturday Night Fever?” If not, please do. Try to put aside the “that disco stuff is so funny” thoughts and pay attention to it as a coming of age film–one of the greatest. If this movie can even approach that, they should be very happy.
Really that good, huh? I’ll be rewatching it again then. Thanks.
It’s nice to see I am not the only person that think Matt is the most beautiful person alive.
It’s comforting, isn’t it? The guy is worse than drugs. This film better be good.
It’s true he is. lol He’s like a cross between Henry Cavill and Ian Somerhalder, that’s not a bad pedigree. lol Though his acting is so much better than them.
Movie plot sounds like shit, much like Tatum’s acting skills. But for Matt Bomer I’ll watch paint dry. You owe me one, Matty B!
Matt is that rare thing: a truly beautiful actor who can also actually act. He brings such presence to his roles.
I was very sceptical about this movie (Channing Tatum does not inspire much of anything in me), but was willing to give it a shot with Soderbergh at the helm. With the addition of Bomer, I am definitely in. Hope his role will be larger than in “In Time”.
I’m so interested to see how they can make this seemingly tawdry subject matter into a worthwhile film (I’m assuming they’re not just going ‘gross out’ comedy). And the gathering of gorgeous bodies now on board is… a draw. Intrigued, for sure.
Mazel Tov!
Love Matt Bomer! White Collar is my most absolute favorite show on TV.!
i’m sure soderbergh can do something amazing with the three musketeers with abs, but I’ll wait for the NYT review before seeing it. “In Time”? I don’t care if Bomer is good looking, his looks can’t do anything for those two minutes of my life I’ll never get back. THAT movie looks miserable.
Matt Bomer is gorgeous AND he can act! Don’t let the good looks fool you, he is VERY talented so those 2 minutes you mentioned will be well worth it!
I truly hope this film is epic on the level of Showgirls. That is the only way I would watch it. It needs to be that horribly awesome.
Please don’t mention Show Girls, that was awful and with Matt in this and Soderbergh directing, let us hope it is watch worthy times 20. Matt Bomer alone makes it worth watching but I would hate to see him in something yucky as his career is just gaining serious momentum.
I will definately be watching this movie. I love Matt Bomer and I think he is a great actor.
Can’t wait.
Was that “In Time” trailer a joke? Is it like a “Funny or Die” spoof trailer? Justin Timberlake as a rugged leading man running around with a run? Surely, they must be kidding?! It looks absolutely dreadful for that reason alone.
WAIT A MINUTE, Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey plus NOW Matt Bomer.
I wonder, who will be next mmmmmmmmm come on Brad Pitt or James Franco.
They had me at MAGIC and Channing….
Man, Channing Tatum is smart to get this made…. Still can’t believe that Steven Soderbergh’s directing = EPIC!
Apparently the walking pecs Joe Mani-gello is also now on board. I am now entirely sure watching this movie is going to give me a prolonged (possibly 120 mins long) attack of the giggles.
YAY Matt Bommer is in? Me too!!! HE IS the Most beautiful man alive!!!!
