EXCLUSIVE: Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun’s production company BermanBraun has signed with WME for representation. At the agency, the company’s entertainment division will be handled by co-CEO Ari Emanuel and head of the TV department Rick Rosen. The move formalizes BermanBraun’s existing relationship with WME as Berman and Braun are long-time very close friends with Emanuel and Rosen, and the agency has been unofficially handing the production company in its deals. (BermanBraun hasn’t had official agency representation until now.) On the TV side, BermanBraun, which has had a first-look TV deal with NBC Universal, has the series Alphas on Syfy. It produced two pilots this past season, drama Weekends at Bellevue at Fox and the Dan Goor comedy at NBC. On the film side, BermanBraun has several projects in development, including comedies Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, based on the book, and Rentaghost, which has Russell Brand attached to star. Additionally, the company has a strong digital division that is behind several celebrity/lifestyle sites with MSN, including Wonderwall and GLO.

Glad they understand new media because they are struggling with traditional.
wme has always repped them
Well Joe, one speech doesn’t exactly make a career now does it. These two have not exactly been tearing it up since leaving their cushy network jobs. Gail had a very short lived, disastrous tenure at Paramount and not one hit movie. Lloyd was working at Yahoo or one of those Internet companies creating a new pipeline for content. Now I like them both, and by no means am writing them off, but what success can Berman/Braun point to under their new banner? BC from this press release, I’m having a hard time counting just how many hits they’ve had? Guess we’ll have to wait and see just how huge this sign turns out to be.
Ari is on fire! He also recently signed Kelsey Grammer and his company Gramnet from CAA and sold their first show BOSS straight to series on Starz.
To Marci K… if Ari is on FIRE, as you put it, then why did DOUG ELLIN, who had a show that was successful arguably because it portrayed a fictionalized ARI, leave WME? The world is curious…
Now, onto more important things: What is up with WME? Are it’s clients really that important to it’s agents? Or is it just interested in getting as many clients as possible until it consumes all? Quantity over quality, am I right? Discuss.
Gramnet has been at every agency. They are just making their rounds.
Talking as a person who recently left WME, they DO NOT know new media. I was with them for several years and the opportunities they let slip through their fingers through ignorance and arrogance is befuddling.
Look up their record since the Lewis Henderson days and what will you find? Nothing.
Not sure any agency understands new media. there has not been enough money to really invest in this space. Senior agents who make $1m+ would not put real time into this.
To have that many corporate clients and not know what to do with them is a shame. The great William Morris is crumbling. I remember dealing with Lewis Henderson and WM about 10 years ago in this area. CLUELESS.
I guess nothing’s changed.
andy weil is a great executive. he’s the heart of the company.
Great name Joe because you are obviously high.
WME prefers that clients bring their own deals to them, make their own phone calls, do their own pitches and let them know when it is time for WME to come in and sign the deal and get their cut. I know, I’ve been there. Making outgoing calls on behalf of a client is seen as a weakness. Same thing with UTA, who’ll take your idea to another of their clients who happens to be “hotter” at the moment. You’re notified by seeing your idea on TV or film under someone else’s name.
Gail Berman, fail.
If it wasn’t for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she would have rode off into the sunset years ago.
Lloyd Braun, fail.
He made Disney what it is today. By ruining the entire TV department, they had a chance when he left to start fresh and look how successful they have been since.
Having worked for both of them in the mid-90′s, these two belong together.
G-dspeed
Lol. Ari will now need to talk to Stella Stolper, Brian Sher and Gail Berman on a regular basis. Justice is indeed sweet.
Aren’t these the two dimwits that ruined BOTH FOX & ABC respectively at one time and how interesting they’re teaming up with Ari E, the brother of the Chicagho mayor as well.
Why such a dynamic duo was not formed decades ago is a mystery. They must have a clever system of finding great scripts. Their name should reflect on their clever system. Something like UNITED LOSERS would be most fitting.
