Last night’s season premiere of CBS’ Two and a Half Men, which set ratings records for CBS, did the same for CTV, the Canadian network that airs the veteran sitcom. Ashton Kutcher’s debut on the show was watched by 5 million viewers north of the border, making the premiere the most-watched regular series broadcast on Canadian television in six years. Like on CBS, it was Men‘s largest audience in Canada. It also became the second-most-watched comedy broadcast ever in the country.

The second most watched comedy in Canada ever? Considering there have been some truly funny people hail from there, you need to hang your heads in shame.
Canada’s population is what, 10% of the U.S. at like 30+ million. So 1/6 of the country watched the episode…that’s pretty ridiculous.
It says a lot about the sad state of Canadian television. Networks would rather air American shows than develop their own. Only CBC is consistently developing Canadian content. It isn’t all good, not by a long shot, but at least they try. CTV and Global are both big turds of networks in my opinion.
oh my .. it is a sad state..and guess what the show bombed..
Nice that you are keeping up with Canadian content.. and know the locals here..lol
News about Two and a Half Mens Season 9 1st episode is great news. I am so happy with the ratings and to hear it go well in other countrys is great too. Well done Chuck Lorre.
Seinfeld finale is most watched I think.
Too bad they didn’t have some comedy writers to work on the script. Weak writing and stiff acting. It’ll be a hit.
The last time I believed anything Nielsen posted, Texaco Live Theatre was top dog. yup… 1950.
While I am happy for its overwhelming success, and I like Ashton Kutcher, last night’s season premiere just wasn’t very good. Now that our curiosity has been satisfied, the writers had better get into high gear if they want audiences to keep tuning in.
It was mammoth in Australia too – 2.3m (population of 21m) and easily belted one of our most loved dramas, Packed to the Rafters, which had 1.6m
Here’s the Australian release:
TWO AND A HALF MEN SCORES ITS HIGHEST RATING EPISODE OF ALL TIME PEAKING AT 2.604 MILLION VIEWERS
The farewell of Charlie and the welcome of Ashton Kutcher as Walden Schmidt was a ratings winner for Two and A Half Men and the Nine Network last night, peaking at 2.604 million viewers and attracting an average of 2.293 million total viewers across the 5 City Metro, the highest ratings ever for the show over its nine series.
Two and a Half Men easily dominated its timeslot across all key demographics 25-54s, 16-39s, 18-49 and Total People across the 5 City Metro and all in all individual markets.
This phenomenal result for the new Two and a Half Men makes it the highest rating comedy show of 2011 across all key demographics (25-54s, 18-49s, 16-39s and Total People) and makes it the 5th highest program of the survey year for 25-54s.
Charlie Sheen’s final episode of Two and a Half Men at 8pm peaked at 2.005 million viewers and was a top five performer across all markets and demographics, was an easy timeslot winner in all key demographics across the 5 City Metro.
This drove the Nine Network to easy wins across all key demographics 25-54s (36.2%), 18-49s (37.1%) and 25-54s (36.2%) across the 5 City Metro.
Nine had five shows in the top ten in 25-54s with all three episodes of Two and a Half Men, The Joy of Sets and Charlie Sheen Roast all appearing.
The premiere of Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee’s new program The Joy of Sets attracted an enormous peak of 2.332 million total viewers.
The Charlie Sheen Roast peaked at 1.144 million total viewers and was an easy timeslot winner in Total People and all key demographics across the 5 City Metro.
And you are entitled to your opinion. But you are incorrect…the CDN tv and filn industries are very healthy. Shows like Flashpoint, Rookie Blue and that new one about the MASH unit in Afghanistan, are all produced up here and sold to the US as well as others. Many DIY shows are also done here. Of course the networks buy US shows too…otherwise they wouldn’t have anything to show. It’s too expensive to build a full schedule of scripted tv w an audience so small.
I thought the early scenes at the funeral were funny, but the episode, for me at least, lost steam as it went on. And once Kutcher appeared, all the air got sucked out of the room. Bland and pointless.
Warner Bros. Television will be able to squeeze another season out of the mix, but the writers and producers will have to work mighty hard to make Kutcher’s character compelling. As an actor, he has neither bark nor bite.
Maybe that’s why Cryer got a star on the Walk of Fame. Because he’ll be doing all the heavy lifting this season.
Wow.. ya I am from Canada and I will say this.. the only reason this show was high in the ratings is because…… the hype.. The What, Where, How, are they going to justify Charlie’s departure..and to see what Kutcher could do.
This was a water cooler discussion at the office today and believe it or not.. alot of people including myself are not impressed and will not be watching..
this show did not live up to the show it was with Mr.Sheen .. he is what he is and when Charlie was hired you knew what you were getting..
Two thumbs down! for sure..
just to show you how you can create drama around the world with charlie episode and brainwash people into seeing a garbage tv show. The media is God. Its not funny a bit.
Flashpoint sucks but rookie blue has become a very good show even if it is a bit soapy.
Also degrassi still plays huge on teen nick.
