ABC is taking a closer look at the workings of U.S.’ top intelligence agencies with two new drama script buys, Safehouse, and Murder Season. Both shows hail from ABC Studios and studio-based producers: Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein and their company Vendetta (Safehouse) and Castle executive producer Laurie Zaks (Murder Season).
Safehouse, which will be written by Chris Hollier, centers on a young, brash CIA agent who joins a crew of agency professionals. The one catch? It’s headed by his long-estranged superspy mother. Murder Season, written by Moira Kirland, focuses on a gifted but troubled female FBI profiler. While working with an elite team to catch the country’s worst criminals, she struggles to hide a dark secret from her past.
Safehouse and Murder Season mark second sales to ABC this season for both Vendetta and Zaks. Vendetta also has the Jekyll & Hyde-inspired Hyde, which is being written by Turner, while Zaks is behind hourlong 1970s music drama Lockharts, penned by Michael Gans and Richard Register. Hollier is with UTA and manager Susan Landau.

Kirland is hell of talented. Really excited to see that pilot.
How is Safehouse any different than Archer?
It’s dramatic rather than comedic I guess…but yeah, it does basically sound exactly like Archer (which is brilliant).
exactly.
Well it doesn’t sound like an animated, absurdist half hour comedy so I imagine it’s pretty different! Hollier is a talented guy – curious to see how this turns out!
Going to work for your long-estranged superspy mother isn’t inherently absurdist? Yeah, that’s exactly Archer. Animation aside, obviously.
Though I have no doubt Hollier will make it great and entertaining.

- So either she killed her abusive ex-husband or her father was a convict. Tell me now and save me the trouble of not putting it on my DVR.
Or Alias. Or any number of familiar projects. With the exception of Hyde (which I know nothing about except the concent of dual identities/same body) NOTHING sounds good on this list. The title Murder Season needs to go, if nothing else.
Murder Season sounds more than slightly similar to The Inside as well.
Let me say that again. CHRIS HOLLIER rules. CHIPE!
Sounds like more shows that sound exactly like other shows. How are viewers supposed to be attracted enough to even bother to check them out?
He joins a group of agents headed by his long-estranged superspy MOTHER….? Are you kidding me?!
I get it, I get it — TV is primarily geared toward women but come the fuck ON, people! This sounds calculated (and not in a good way) and therefore borderline insulting.
Interesting developments, but can’t imagine these two projects (whatever the odd name) will be able to hold a candle to material based on Jeffrey Archer’s bestsellers (300 million copies sold in the world apparently). Though Sheldon Turner is great. He wrote Up In The Air, which was very entertaining.
Psst hey ABC, Adrian Pasdar’s character from Castle.
You nailed it Jacetoon. Hopefully the female lead will be more interesting and be able to act.
Anxiously await Chris Hollier’s “Safehouse”!! “POE” will make it one day, as well!
