UPDATED: I hear that ABC Family has canceled freshman drama The Nine Lives of Chloe King after one season, while giving a back 12 order to another freshman, The Lying Game. Both are based on Alloy books and have been soft in the ratings. Nine Lives opened in June with 2.2 million viewers. The Lying Game launched last month with 1.4 million viewers. ABC Family’s breakout summer hit, Switched at Birth, has been renewed for a second season.

Noooo. I’m actually really sad about this. The show started off shaky but was getting better and better by the episode. Man no resolution for that finale. So sad.

Agree about this. Chando and Adrian Pasdar are rocking this show and it gets better every episode. The mystery just gets more complex, the show is turning out to be a winner.
Shame to hear about Nine lives. I hope ABCF have noticed Benjamin Stone’s popularity amongst the fans and put him in one of their other shows straight away. He’d do well on PLL
So true! Benjamin Stone is amazing, and pretty much the main reason I watched Nine Lives. I was so sad when it ended, especially with that huge cliffhanger! All of the Actors on the show were great and hopefully will show up in other places soon!
The Lying games has also picked up pretty well so I am glad they kept that on as well.
Sad news, but not surprisingly in the least. It was getting better, but it still felt like something wasn’t quite clicking. The Lying Game surprised me. As much as I love PLL, I wasn’t expecting to like this show…and it’s really got me hooked.
It seems like everytime a good show gets going like the nine lives of Chloe King, it gets yanked…so many shows ABC has done this to.
Too bad…The Lying Game is rather boring. tired of the hollywood type shows here in the mid-west…it reflects the downfall of parents not knowing what their kids are up to…Chloe was fun. Main character too.
‘Nine Lives’ could have been a good teen supernatural thriller but the show finds Chloe King in need of rescue in every episode. Super Lame.
Sooo happy to know “The Lying Game” has been given 12 more episodes. It would be nice if they put “Pretty Little Liars” on the same night.
Its really hard to believe that Alexandra Chando does both roles on TLG. She is amazing.
ok i watch all 3 of those shows and i can’t understand how Switched at Birth is being renewed over Nine Lives. I do like Switched at Birth i just think Nine Lives had way more potential. AND what a way to end a show, we’ll never know what happened to them all

You’re kidding, right? Switched at Birth is being renewed over 9LOCK because SAB did QUADRUPLE the ratings Chloe King did. (Not to mention it’s a much better show.)
I can’t believe any fan would be surprised by this announcement. If the ratings are much greater for one show (Switched at Birth), it’s kind of a no-brainer. When networks make renewal decisions, they look at the ratings, not subjective evaluations of “potential”.
If you read the books to nine lives it wraps it up, but in a different way than the show was heading…. but at least it is an ending.
Is there any hope of saving 9 Lives? This is one of our fave new shows! Hate to see it canceled.
NOOOO. Switched at Birth is boring and badly cast; Nine Lives is incredibly charming and addicting. Why do the good shows also get dropped??
I agree, I preferred Nine Lives. But no executive with a functioning brain is going to choose the show that’s much weaker in the ratings. The reality is that hardly anyone cared to tune in to Nine Lives.
I love Nine Lives and Switched at Birth. For someone to say the casting of Switched is lame, is not fair. But I am sorry that Nine Lives has been cancelled. It’s a really good show and I’m so disappointed. I love The Lying Game though and I’m glad it got more episodes. I can’t understand why the same could not have been done for Nine Lives. If they wanted to cancel it, at least give it 6 more eps to give it closure or something; don’t just drop it like that. I don’t know why I invested in it in the first place. I should have known how these networks act.
Strange that ABCFamily would choose to renew The Lying Game, a show with lower ratings and declining numbers, when Chloe King was not only drawing larger numbers but growing in key demos each week. It seems like ABCFamily is just interested in putting out more of the same Pretty Little Liars-type of shows.
Someone above said maybe Chloe will be able to find a home on CW that’d be awesome since fans were left with a huge cliffhanger on the season finale and we want to know what happens!
Oh please, the season/series finale of Nine Lives only had 1.078m viewers w/ an 18 – 49 of 0.3
The [b]latest[/b] episode of The Lying Game pulled 1.35m viewers and a 0.4 18 – 49 (0.89 @ 12 – 34)
Declining numbers? Nine Lives opened with 2.2 million viewers. The final number was [b]half[/b] that!
Not to mention, Chloe King with PPL as a lead-in. Lying Game aired after Secret Life (and now by itself). It’s holding up far better compared to Chloe.
Chloe is gone. It numbers demanded that it be gone. You’re deluding yourself if you think this deserves to get picked up elsewhere or additional eps. should be ordered to have a satisfactory final. It’s dead. Deal with it.
Yes, BUT Nine lives had a far worse time slot with huge competition like ‘The voice’ and ‘America got talent’, both ratings giants!
The next few weeks when The Lying Game is up against more competition, will be more of a test. But Nine lives average weekly numbers are only marginally lower than The Lying Game. TLG without any massive compeition thus far should have had way better numbers than Nine Lives
There are no words to express how PISSED i am about the cancellation of “Nine Lives.” But there is hope! I bet this show will be picked up by another channel (MTV,NICK,TBS,FOX) so I’m not too stressed . . . yet. Switched at Birth is very good but it’s a little . . . slow. Chloe King didn’t really leave any uninteresting places. There was always drama which I like but that may just be me. All I know, is that The Lying Game got lower ratings than Nine Lives and is still continuing. What? Next, the show was only playing for 10 measly episodes, of course it’s gonna get lower ratings on the first season, especially after JUST 10 EPISODES!ABCF is gonna lose viewers so I doubt it will be cancelled from air period. I mean, look at all these protests! It’ll be picked up, some company will take the advantage, take over and while ABCF upt it and scratched it, another company will just up it more. I truly love the Nine Lives of Chloe King. I am just upset and so pissed off about this! TLG is boring but yet I still try my best to stay with it hoping it would get better. No signs yet. It all reminds me of Pretty Little Liars way too much! It’s quite annoying. Nine Lives has an interesting plot and so many twists that no one saw coming. I also do agree that it mainly had to do with the time slot. I bet if Nine Lives was in the same time slot,the lying game is in now, it would be a lot more popular. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow when all these new shows are premiering. ;p
The problem with these shows is kids watch them. They only last a year or two because these kids grow up and get lives and that is it for the show. So the next one that replaces it works on the “new generation”. And the cycle just continues.
I will miss 9LOCK… I do miss 10TIHAY, LUX and a few others.
All these shows were good, but they got cancelled because of ratings. We really need a new way of figuring out who all views which shows/ratings.
I personally do not know how they get their ratings, but I’m going to assume they get the numbers from who is tuning in on the premiere nights.
That system fails, because it doesn’t show them who is watching On-Demand the next day, who is recording the show (because they aren’t there or there is something else on at the same time), who is watching online because they don’t have TV service, etc.
If there was a way to see those ratings, there would be a lot less cancelled shows.
So sad. I loved Chloe King. I hate when they cancel shows like that.
The facts and events are unfolding rapidly on The Lying Game. Makes me feel as if there won’t be much left of it. PLL has been dragging though. As much as I love it, I had began to FF episodes I’d DVRed. I’m upset about 9 Lives. That show grew on me.

i watched both 9LOCK and TLG when they premiered and neither of them stuck with me at first. however i gave em both a second chance and TLG grew on me and i love it now. honestly the reason why 9LOCK got so many views on the premier was because it came on right after PLL. better show always wins:)
