EXCLUSIVE: New Line has acquired Pregnancy Pact, a comedy pitch that Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly will write for Red Hour Productions. The comedy follows three lifelong best friends who make an ill-conceived pact to get the women in their lives pregnant at the same time. Their goal is to avoid having to make friends with other new parents when their child is born. Instead, it tests their friendship and marriages. It’s considered a strong vehicle for three young actors, and already some are circling, though no one is attached yet. The project will be produced by Red Hour’s Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld. Erica Steinberg, who brought it in, will be exec producer. The writers, who first got on the map when their script The Diversification of Noah Miller made the Black List, are also rewriting a Russell Brand comic vehicle at Paramount, and they have just set up a pair of TV pilots. They are writing First Ones In for Jamie Tarses, Sony and CBS, and Ex-Laws for Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and ABC Television Studios and ABC. The scribes are repped by WME and Management 360.

It’s like the Hangover meets Knocked Up with a touch of Diner.
And these two writers think a female audience is going to accept such a mysoginist premise played out at their expense. Are you kidding? Are these woman so stupid as to not have a clue as to what’s going on??? Think not!…then of course it’s ben stiller, who’s so desperate for a hit…that explains everything
This sounds like a disgusting and sexist premise. It also is so unbelievable. Hangover and Diner were believable premises.
I always support other writers making deals and making money, because it’s hard out there.
That said, this is officially the stupidest f*#king idea I have ever heard in my life. Wow. I have never heard of another pitch idea that was more guaranteed to bomb. The only other thing they could do to make sure this is a non-starter is cast Jennifer Aniston.
Good job, New Line, toss another shovel full of dirt on your grave –
when can the Black List stop being used as an automatic indicator of quality writing? Yes, many scripts and writers on the list are excellent. But just as many are not excellent. I understand that the list is collectively a good thing for the industry, but in my opinion it’s over-used when promoting projects like this.
Now here’s a premise grounded in reality.
Dude, they can be bros forever that way, man!
I’m having a hard time determining if this is high concept or not.
Not even sure it would be worth a p+a commitment.

“Black List writer…” = yet to accomplish anything else of note.
Have you read the CV above? they’re doing the work of three or four writers!
Sam and Adam are both great guys. They love all kinds of cuisine and have great heads of hair. Not sure why all of these comments are so negative.
Forget it, Playon. It’s Finketown.
So this is basically the chick flick answer to American Pie?
Don’t want to be too much of a hater but saying you were on the Black List means precisely dick unless you were in the top 5 and the people who ‘claim’ it are usually the ones way down at the bottom that got put on the list by gaming the system with friends/agents/managers conspiring to get them the requisite 4 votes.
This doesn’t sound like a film I’d personally see in theatres, but it definitely doesn’t sound like a shit idea as many of you suggest. I can tell you for certain that the idea of best bros trying to have kids at the same time is nothing new. I’ve had conversations like this with my friends on several occasions. It makes sense even though the execution may pose some logistical challenges.
Why wouldn’t the guys want to make friends with other new parents? In fact, wouldn’t it be easier to just not have kids altogether? Why am I asking questions about a premise this moronic?
