AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong and advisers for Yahoo are discussing combining the two companies in the wake of Carol Bartz’s ouster as Yahoo CEO, Bloomberg reports. Armstrong perhaps sees his opening now that Bartz has been forced out — he was interested in a merger last year but was rebuffed. Armstrong has consulted private-equity firms and investment bankers from Allen & Co, working with Yahoo. Yahoo has been considering all its options, including acquisitions — it is believed to be a bidder for Hulu — and splitting itself into parts. One option appears to be Yahoo acquiring AOL, with Armstrong taking the reins as CEO of the combined company, according to one source. Meanwhile, Bartz has said she plans to remain on the Yahoo board, and though she thinks new interim CEO Tim Morse is “a great guy,” she feels she is the only true replacement for herself.

The ego on this woman is unbelievable…
Yahoo/AOL!?! Dear God! What a horrible idea!! It’s like Human Centipede: The Corporation.
i do not want my yahoo account connected to AOL.
AOL doesn’t even seem like the right partner for Yahoo.
And what is the right partner? Microsoft? Google? Might be a good fit for Microsoft, especially the search side of business, but Google probably wishes Yahoo would cease to exist. It would probably be a good thing for AOL, especially the ad revenue business and the shear infrastructure Yahoo could bring to the table.
I like this. AOL/HuffPo merger is a mess as far as putting the two managements and cultures together and now AOL wants to buy/get bought by Yahoo? I’ve read that Armstrong takes his cues from Arianna. What does /she/ think?
these two turkeys deserve each other
It’s the web portal version of The Expendables. Now they just need to get the rest of the old timers on board: Alta Vista, Excite, LookSmart . . .
That’s all we need now…Armstrong ruining another company like has has of AOL and Bartz still remaining with a firm whom she just bad-mouthed only 24 hours ago. They’re both full of crap and if this merger happens, both companies will be done in two years time.
