EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Blythe Danner has been cast in a potentially recurring role on NBC’s new comedy series Up All Night, which had a promising preview Wednesday, logging a 3.7/10 in adults 18-49 to rank as the top program of the night. On the comedy, starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett as harried new parents and Maya Rudolph as Applegate’s boss, Danner will play Applegate’s mom. This marks Danner’s return to NBC. She previously recurred on the network’s comedy Will & Grace, playing the mother of Will (Eric McCormack).

Watched the show last night. It was very well written but would do better as an hour long drama because it just wasn’t funny.
I was going to say the same thing. Danner is one of the most brilliant, beautiful, versatile and elegant actors in America today. She can do comedy, drama – anything. Always a pleasure to see her on TV, even if the shows she’s on aren’t always up to scratch (the later seasons of ‘Will & Grace,’ etc).
Kudos to them for grabbing Blythe. Truly one of the most beautiful, sweet, and gracious actresses in the business. She brings depth and humor to every scene. Love her!
Not funny.
Stop jamming Will Arnett down our throats. He’s not funny and just not a strong enough talent to carry a show.
Move it!
You’re out of your mind. Watch any episode of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT or his guest spots on 30 ROCK. He’s brilliant.
Avery, I think you are confusing good writing for good acting.
Arrested Development and 30 Rock are brilliant. The writers are brilliant enough to write roles that make Will Arnett look brilliant too, but I have to agree that he is not strong enough to carry a show. He does one thing very well, and has made an excellent career out of it.
Avery, I see where you are coming from. Lmno, I see where you are coming from. Here is my lonely assessment.
The word brilliant is thrown around like spoiled popcorn today. Justin Bieber is brilliant. Michael Bay is brilliant. And yes, if you are in your 20s or early 30s you might think that is brilliant. But if you are a bit more educated you certainly would never ever think of Will Arnett as brilliant.
