EXCLUSIVE: In a mid-six-figure against seven-figure deal, Emmett/Furla Films has acquired Expiration, an action script by Brian Tucker. He scripted Broken City, a drama that EFF is financing for a November 7 start date with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe starring for director Allen Hughes. Expiration will be produced by Randall Emmett, George Furla and Tucker.
An ex-CIA operative-turned-hitman is poisoned on his final job. With 20 hours to live, he is determined to find out who poisoned him, and settle the score before he dies. It’s a big-scale $50 million-plus action film. EFF will finance it, and they will go out to directors and cast quickly to start production early next year. Aside from Tucker’s Broken City, Emmett/Furla starts production October 17 on Frozen Ground, which stars John Cusack as Alaska’s most notorious serial predator, Robert Hansen. In the span of 12 years, Hansen abducted more than 24 women and flew them into the Alaskan wilderness to hunt and murder them. Nicolas Cage plays the Alaskan State trooper on his tail, and Vanessa Hudgens plays the lone victim who escaped. At the recent Toronto Film Festival, Emmett/Furla Films unveiled a $250 million film find with Stepan Martirosyan and Remington Chase’s Envision Entertainment. Tucker’s repped by WME and Management 360.

It’s pretty much “DOA,” isn’t it?
Yeah, like…exactly
Wait, wait, wait — what’s this? A ticking-time bomb script? Not just something with bad sex jokes or no jokes at all? With the 20 hours to live, I’m hooked. When the audience knows the movie is going to be wrapped up in the 2 hours they’re in the theater, it’s always easier to sell that script/movie.
Just like 30 MINUTES OR LESS, even though the execution was terrible. 16 BLOCKS, a movie I enjoyed, is also a good example.
Wasn’t this called “Crank” just sub out “Criminal” for “CIA” operative?
Actually you don’t even have to change that.
CRANK was a “professional assassin” vs. CIA operative-turned-hitman.
Yeah world’s of difference LAWL.
Literally, the loglines are interchangable.
A hitman, with 20 hours to live, is determined to find out who poisoned him, and settle the score before he dies.
Well if Randall and George thought it was good, it must be quality.
Yeah it does sound exactly like DOA and all the films that have recycled its premise. Also what is with “Broken City”? It’s one of the worst Black List scripts I’ve ever read, and I’m a big fan of crime dramas/noirs. No idea what Wahlberg/Crowe saw in that…
Not with EF on board. They have money. They option a script, the project gets made. End of story.
Nope. This idea is fresh as a daisy. It has never been done before and anyone who says it has is lying.
CRANK!
Go Juilliard!!
They’re remaking Crank already?
They may make a $50mil budget but EFF spends most of the money on themselves instead of making the movie
Hollywood officially sucks! Same recycled crap day after day. It wasn’t good the first time so what makes you geniuses think we’ll change our minds??
