EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Sheen Teaming With ‘Drew Carey’s Bruce Helford On ‘Anger Management’?

EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that The Drew Carey Show creator Bruce Helford has entered negotiations to write, executive produce and run Charlie Sheen’s new comedy series Anger Management. Helford was one of several veteran comedy showrunners that met with Lionsgate TV and producer Joe Roth on the project and emerged as a leading candidate for the job about two weeks ago. Helford has been considered a strong choice to create a starring vehicle for Sheen, having done the same in the past for Drew Carey with ABC’s The Drew Carey Show and George Lopez with the comedian’s eponymous ABC sitcom. He will develop Anger Management based on the 2003 Jack Nicholson-Adam Sandler movie, with Sheen set to play an updated version of Nicholson’s character, a volatile anger management therapist. Once there is a showrunner on board, Lionsgate is expected to take out the project to networks and station groups in search of a buyer. Lionsgate plans to produce the series under the template created by its subsidiary Debmar-Mercury via the Tyler Perry sitcoms on TBS, which calls for a quick amassing of a syndicatable number of episodes. Helford can handle such accelerated production schedule having juggled multiple series at the same time during his tenure at Warner Bros TV. After taking a short break to focus on his kids, Helford recently put out feelers that he was ready to return to television full-time and quickly landed the Anger Management gig.

Great idea, make a tv show based on a terrible movie. With a mentally unstable star. Epic Fail!!!
I think their taking too much time with this. It should debut this Sept.
I like the Title so far, I think it catches people’s attention. Now the writing is the most important obviously, if it’s written well where it can blend into people’s lives where they can relate to their own crazy ” angry moments ” then it will be a hit….people will turn off Two and A Half Man and go right to Anger Management:)….Charlie should hurry up though, strike while the iron is hot, don’t sit out for too long!
great news…this show could work…and if anyone has noticed, Charlie Sheen looks ALOT better these days…looks to be taking care of himself again..will miss him on Two and half men..not looking forward to Ashton at all but will check it out
Charlie will be superb in whatever he does. Two and A Half Men is already dead, there’s still two and a half men but Ashton is the half and it is not going to keep the fans.
If they’re basing their production model on the Tyler Perry shows, it it really fair to keep referring to this as a comedy?
Nice flava sava.
I think that Charlie Sheen should play Charlie on, “Charlie’s Angels”. It would be hilarious and ratings would go through the roof!! I can only imagine Charlie talking to Minka, Annie and Rachel.
CHARLIE: “Hey, Angels!”
ANGELS: “Hey, Charlie”
CHARLIE: “Angels, I have a mission for you!”
It woul great that charlie’s new show would mr. (GOD) lorre’s men. I am still confused. I thought that CBS moonves wanted charlie back. it’s all about who’s trying to be in charge wich we all know is lorre’s attitude.
Charlie? Is that you?
Now THAT’S the best idea I’ve heard in years! Why are they not doing this???
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks Ashton already sucks and can not save 2.5Men….I’m not even going to watch it…cheap shot letting him go when he was crying out for help.
Any professional boss would not blog on vanity cards about his employee that needed help….The entire Sheen scenerio lead me to belive, people are all backstabbers in Hollywood and there is always someone that will take your job in a New York minute…
Hollywood = vomit…
Charlie Sheen is better off working with people that appreciate him. I’m sure it wasn’t easy walking around in his underpants all day on set and half naked in bed….He deserved more respect from uppper management. He made 2.5Men look easy, after 8 years, he SHOULD of won an Emmy – he was robbed…People love Sheen, always will, they can relate to him….
I’m sure his new show will be a big hit, they should get Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson to help write scripts….They are out of this world funny…..Gervais says it like it is, doesn’t hold back, he is out of this world a funny actor and writer/producer….
Charlie Sheen should give out Comedy Awards this year at the EMMYs…If Charlie does not give out a comedy award, then the Emmy’s this year will be a complete BORE….The Emmy’s need TigerBlood….and Warlock ethics to be realllllllllllllllllly funny…..Sheen should be included in the show…..(surprise them Mark Burnett) get him on stage with Lorre…let’s see them make peace and show the world, peace can be achieved by reaching out…
What a great show that would be, Sheen walks on stage when Lorre’s presenting with Jon Cryer… Make it a show to remember..
Thanks for your first draft tvangel. Before I send this upstairs, here are a few notes you HAVE to address:
1) Get rid of “cheap shot letting him go when he was crying out for help”. Everything else is fine, but Charlie made sure the world saw him implode. His rantings aren’t going to get the sympathy vote as “crying out”.
2) The paragraph about “backstabbers in Hollywood”? GET RID OF THE WHOLE THING. Immediately. Makes you look fresh off the boat and without a clue. (Where DID you come from, anyways? My daughter knows about the backstabbing in Hollywood and she’s SIX!)
3) The “TigerBlood” and “Warlock” stuff became boring to the point of embarrassment months ago. GET RID OF IT.
Everything else looks okay. Looking forward to the incorporation of these notes.
One last friendly suggestion: Try to read more of the trades — you are coming across as out of touch.
Everyone was quick to write off Sheen earlier this year. And Charlie didn’t do much to discourage those reports.
But don’t write this guy off yet. He’s come back before and as we all know, American audiences often forgive pretty quickly. Look at Michael Vick – he scored a $100 million contract playing a game after his crimes against animals and the fans have forgiven him (maybe).
Charlie was loud and weird, but in Hollywood we know that isn’t a crime. He’s had substance abuse issues for decades, but he still seems to pull it together when needed. No, his only crime was insulting his producer in public. And by all accounts, Lorre ain’t no saint either.
“Fair-weather friends stab you in the back. True friends stab you in the chest.”
i
Agree with you about Sheen — Vick? Not so much.
The Eagles gave him as MASSIVE contract that a lot of so-called “experts” believe was too much too soon based on nothing THAT worthy.
And as far as public opinion of Vick: Waste a few minutes and go on an ESPN message board about the guy and see for yourself what people think of Vick. To call some of those postings “unsavory” would be like saying Hitler was “misunderstood”.
Sounds like comedy (troll) gold to me. The movie was bad and Charlie is totally unpredictable. What could go wrong?
This show WILL be a hit!! This guy Helford has a magic touch and a very good sense of humor take the very underated Drew Carey Show. Charlie will be back on top next year and everyone will stop making fun of him and Jon Cryer will fail with 2 and half Men without Charlie. The show will be huge the first 2 weeks for curious viewers but we will see if Ashton can carry a show like Charlie did that will be the question, Good Luck Charlie, I hope you succeed.
He’s not even *that* impressive of an actor (ignoring his earlier works).
Cool ! I am happy about this move and really looking forward to watch this new show (now i hope Charlie will also come back making movies with..great directors, no matter his demons the guy has on-screen charisma and great comedic timing and with Platoon he demonstrated he could do drama).
p.s: now Charlie just stay sober man, it is better for everybody.
I think Charlie Sheen will be a major hit in Anger Management and will be perfect for the part! I can’t wait to start watching it. It’s going to be great.
I am waiting for Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management to start. Please hurry.
Please hurry, we miss you Charlie!! Can’t wait to see you back doing what you do so well!
