EXCLUSIVE: CAA just signed Scott Cooper, who made his directorial debut with Crazy Heart, the film that won Jeff Bridges the Oscar for Best Actor. Cooper, who started an an actor before making the transition to filmmaker with his scripted adaptation of the Thomas Cobb novel, has several projects percolating. He’s attached to direct Out of the Furnace, his rewrite of the Brad Ingelsby revenge thriller spec script Low Dweller, which Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott will produce. Cooper is also attached to direct a Warner Bros adaptation of the S.C. Gwynne book Empire of the Summer Moon, about the rise and fall of the Commanche tribe. Cooper had been repped by ICM.

My guess is about 3-6 months ago Jeff Berg must of given Scott the full court client career strategy meeting and then never followed up on one thing. Typical Berg. Nice snag CAA.
this is hilarious. of course he left ICM. what took him so long? smart move getting out before they can drag him down.
If anyone is at fault, its ICM’s anemic and let’s just say it, non existent, movie department. Berg should not have let Chris Silvermann anywhere near his client in public. He’s like the kiss of death to any star he comes in touch with. Run, and hide,, if you see him!
wait a sec….Chris Silbermann couldn’t save the client! i’m shocked that a “save meeting” in his ikea corner office (accompanied by him wearing jeans and a t-shirt 3 sizes too small) didn’t go well………..
This is NEWS??? Must have been a slow traffic day. Scott must have leaked this himself.
Crazy Heart was soooo about Jeff Bridges. PEriod.
Isnt this Scott’s first film?
Amateur who ran into some luck.
As a recent NY Transplant it is fascinating to read people’s responses, views, and surprisingly INSIDER knowledge about agency’s and the quirks (clothing comments?lol) of certain agents. Their weaknesses (some is just perception, I’m sure, or sour grapes–but a lot must be factual..)called out in a media source is surprising. Information that could be put to use (who to avoid, who and how to proceed with!)
“Out of the Furnace”.
CAA needs to get him to put that title back in the furnace, incinerate it.
Dear Bitter Deborah,
Crazy Heart was so about Jeff Bridges??? Uhhhh, I think Maggie G was nominated for an Oscar for her role, no? Hmmm, interesting! As the great Thomas Jefferson said, “the harder I work the luckier I find myself”. Just a random thought, but maybe Scott works really really hard! Lame people with lame comments! I love it!
