Toronto, Ontario (September 6, 2011) – John Weber, CEO of Take 5 Prods., Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, and industry veteran Fred Fuchs announced today a strategic partnership to form a new television development company called Take 5 Development. This new venture will focus on the development of television content with an eye to the international marketplace.
Over the past two years, Take 5 Productions has produced television content with production budgets totaling in excess of $200 million. Their projects have included the Emmy-nominated series THE TUDORS, THE BORGIAS and CAMELOT, and they are currently in production on the television series WORLD WITHOUT END. As Take 5 continues to build its production volume, the company will now continue to expand their reach outside of production and into the content creation arena. To that end, Phase 4 Films has become a growing player in the film world, distributing feature films and special interest content across all traditional theatrical and new media platforms, and so this move will expand upon their presence in the broadcast and international realm.
The new company, Take 5 Development, will be led by Brett Burlock, who most recently served as Vice President of Development at CTV, where he was instrumental in the critical and ratings success of the network’s original production slate, which included FLASHPOINT, THE BORGIAS, THE BRIDGE and THE LISTENER. While the new company is primarily interested in one hour scripted dramas, it is currently considering additional genres to develop a diversified slate.
The new development company will be a writer focused initiative that plans to offer unique partnership opportunities to showrunners and other creative talent.
