EXCLUSIVE: Comedy’s red-hot selling season continues with another half-hour project landing a major commitment after a bidding war. In a competitive situation that went down to the wire between ABC and NBC, ABC just snagged How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life, a multi-camera/hybrid comedy from Accidentally on Purpose creator Claudia Lonow, 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine Television. The project, which is in the mold of another 20th TV comedy, How I Met Your Mother – a multi-camera comedy that is shot without live audience and features more scenes than a regular sitcom — has received a put pilot commitment from the network. Based on Lonow’s own life, How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life, which can certainly vie for the longest series title crown, is described as an outrageous comedy with lots of heart. It centers on a single mom who moves in with her parents to help raise her daughter. WME-repped Lonow is executive producing the project with Imagine TV’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. This marks the second big comedy sale for Imagine/20th TV so far this season following the Sarah Silverman semi-autobiographical comedy, which also sparked a bidding war between NBC and ABC, ultimately landing at NBC.

Claudia is a wonderful writer and person. Very happy for her.
it was cute when it was called Homegrown.

Yes, Robert, great point, because one-line series descriptions are always executed exactly the same. I agree, you’re not so wise.
Congrats to Claudia, she will execute the hell out of this!
Diana Fairgate makes good, yaaaay!
Claudia is hilarious… I’ve seen her perform at Sit’n'spin many times and I think she’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen. I bet this show gets on the air and is a breakout hit.
The idea is not only funny but true! And would make a great show! Go Claud!
Claudia has good connections but not much talent. This is goin’ nowhere. A tired premise and a humorless creator = little future.
Hey, U, and what are your comedy credential judge Claudia. If you really look around you, you will see a lot of college grads are still living at home at the age of 26 because they can’t get a job that pays above minimum wage, plus tips.
Maybe you aren’t aware but I believe Michael Douglas knew a few people in the biz too to get a leg up so why judge Claudia for being blessed with talent and connections. If you read the latest report on women working in Hollywood as directors, producers and writers the numbers are declining every year – so a good success story to move the needle in the opposite direction is always a plus sign.
The womanin this photo can’t possibly be 26. Is that what you’re saying?
I remember Claudia when she did Rude Awakening at Showtime in the 90s. She’s a tireless creator who, given the chance, will ride this to victory. I wish her a lot of luck in that shark infested sea of sitcoms. Considering what the country is coming to, we may all be moving home – if we can.
This sounds like a hit show for ABC. Kudos to them and Claudia !
Wow. You might be right. Let’s just give her the syndication money right now.
What a deluge of comedic mediocrity on television today. And this lineup doesn’t look very promising. Comedy show runner geniuses such as David Angell (“Frasier”, “Cheers”) would be totally bummed to see the current state of affairs on the boob tube these days.
I think of Mr. Angell at this moment because he lost his life (along with his wife) during the Sept. 11 terror attacks a decade ago next week. They left us too soon, and may they rest in peace. And may the families and friends who all suffered losses on that terrible day continue to find a balm for their pain.
I love the way you hide your unfair criticism of Claudia & her project behind a 9/11 eulogy for a sit com producer long departed.
Yes we all feel bad for 9/11 victims, but this comments section is about Claudia.
Chaz…. I am not hiding behind anything. I am just stating an opinion — like the rest of the folks on here — that echoes a belief that the state of comedy writing on television today is lackluster and uninspired and that Ms. Lonow (or any player outside of Larry David and “Curb”) isn’t likely going to change those fortunes soon — especially with the projected comedy lineup mentioned in this blog post.
So please cease your tricoteuse shenanigans and take your knitting needle and the unfounded Madame DeFarge-like conspiracy theories you are darning and stuff it, homey!
Gracias — and thanks for playing!
Hopefully this will be better than some of the other hokey female created crap coming on ABC. Hack female writers make it harder for the talented ones.
You clearly do not know Claudia. One of the funniest and most talented people I’ve ever had the plesure of working with. It’s amazing the kind of comments that anonymity and mean-spiritedness can produce. These comment sections are, for the most part, worthless.
WAY TO GO, CLAUDIA. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT.
Is it even possible to get a show on the air anymore without vampire non-writing producers attached? I’ve never seen even one who was worth the money they money they suck out of the budget.
Claudia is fantastic and will do a great job.
Good for her. When she’s left alone she does stuff that is truly clever and personal and FUNNY, like Rude Awakenings. Maybe sit-coms will make a come back in troubled times when we need them. This sounds perfect.
Great news! I love Claudia! GIRL POWER!!!
Didnt’ even know Claudia was still around – haven’t seen her since she was written out of Knots Landing about 20 odd years ago…out of sight out of mind, I guess, but it’s nice to see her back and to know that she’s still around…
