EXCLUSIVE: Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are teaming for a comedy project. After a heated bidding war, a multi-camera comedy executive produced by DeGeneres and starring Arrested Development alumna de Rossi, has landed at NBC with a put pilot commitment. I hear the project, to be written by Samantha Who? co-creator/executive producer Don Todd, is about dueling sisters, one of them played by de Rossi. The project hails from Warner Bros TV and DeGeneres’ studio-based production company A Very Good Production. It marks the first sale for A Very Good Production, which entered the series development arena in October when it inked a multi-year, multifaceted deal with WBTV and tapped former Comedy Central president of original programming Lauren Corrao to run it. The untitled comedy, which had all four major broadcast networks interested, will be executive produced by DeGeneres, Corrao and Todd. WME-repped de Rossi, best known for her roles on Fox’s Ally McBeal and Arrested Development, most recently starred on ABC’s well-received but short-lived comedy Better Off Ted. ICM-repped DeGeneres is coming off another best talk show Daytime Emmy win for her daily talker, which kicked off its ninth season this week. Todd is with the Rothman Brecher Agency. This is the latest comedy project to spark a bidding war and land a commitment as half-hour shows have been hotter than ever this pitch season.

Hopefully we’ll get more Portia and less Ellen. Or is this some vehicle for other people. I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
That is a very general statement. Why a very bad feeling for a this show???
I’m looking forward to it. I love both of them.
I too am looking forward to the show!! Ellen is my favorite comedian, and Porita is sure to shine
I LOVED Better Off Ted… it was brilliant!
Methinks”brilliant” is a stretch but it was consistently pretty good with moments where it ventured into great (the “Racial Sensitivity” ep from season 1 is a fine example of this). It certainly deserved a lot better — both from ABC and the Nielsen families.
The title, however, is another matter entirely. Dreadful is a word that comes to mind…
Well, methinks it was absolutely brilliant. It was magniflorious, in fact. The title did, indeed, suck however and probably kept people from tuning in, if they even knew it existed. It’s one of the few comedy series, even with so few episodes, that I can watch repeatedly and never get bored. Hope the new series is half as good.
MUCH better than the overrated Modern Family
Pretty sure the article is clear in saying this show is about two sisters, with De Rossi being one of them. Ellen is not in the cast.
OMG SO EXITED! LUV LUV LUV The BEAU-TIFUL Portia DeRossi! And Ellen DeGeneres Is Producing! Def Gonna Be A Hit! Can’t Wait To See The Pilot!
“Def Gonna Be A Hit!” Whoa, dude. Calm down. All you know about this project is the actor and a one-line description of the premise. It’s really, really hard to make a TV show and even harder to make a hit. None of us have any idea at this point what will or won’t be a hit for the 2012 fall season. No one’s even seen a first draft. Of anything. Just pour yourself some warm milk and go sit in a dark corner. We’ll get back to you when (and if) this thing gets on the air.
Portia was gorgeous in SCREAM 2 and her first season of ALLY MCBEAL. Now she looks very hard. I don’t know if it’s because she’s older now or hangs out in the sun too long. Hopefully her face’ll soften a bit before this new show because the hardeness makes her look eternally angry much like Jada Pinkett Smith.
You mean a 38 year old woman doesn’t look just like she did when she was 21? Seriously? That is your complaint? Portia looks amazing and is a great comedic talent.
Portia is s great comedic actress so this is good news
Homophobic. Sorry!
I actually heard the pitch. Its pretty damn funny and really smart. I think its gonna be really big.
love them both….
I THINK SOME OF YOU SHOULD WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES………………
