The Sunday series finale of HBO’s Entourage drew 2.6 million viewers at 10:30 PM, a season high in total viewers. For the night, the Hollywood-centric comedy posted a total of 3.2 million for the two airings combined. (For an analysis, see The End Of ‘Entourage’: Whaddya Think?) Curb Your Enthusiasm wrapped one of its strongest seasons creatively with 2 million viewers tuning in for the Season 8 finale at 10 PM, the largest finale audience for the show since 2004. (For the night, the viewer total was 2.4 million). Starting things off at 9 PM was the fourth-season finale of vampire drama True Blood, which averaged 5.1 million viewers (6.2 million for the night). It was slightly down from last season’s finale (5.4 million) but overall in line with last year for the season.

I’m happy for HBO and all involved–programming Curb and Entourage after Blood was a smart move.
Having said that, I really gave up on Curb this season. The Palestine Chicken episode was a classic and the one with Bill Buckner was pretty funny, but in between there seemed to be very little humor–just a lot of yelling and whining and yelling and whining. I’m not sure Larry David is as funny as a divorced guy–Cheryl Hines really brought something to the show that was missing this year. Hoping they get it back next time around.
Entourage? The show stopped being must-see-TV for me about three season back when it stopped being about Vince. He was no longer the center of attention. The thought of him jetting off to Paris to marry a reporter he just met (and the idea that she would consent), well…..it’s all just sort of silly.
I think I was hoping for more of a Robert Redford character from The Candidate (dating myself-sorry) where the guy compromises his values and sells out to get to the top and then questions whether it was really worth it. Entourage could have been the show that really explored the soul of those who literally give anything to succeed in Hollywood–instead it opted for Happy Endings.
Oh well. It’s just TV.
i agree. You are pretty smart.
Overrated, sucky TV.
Entourage has been slipping badly for the past three seasons in terms of cool and and funny storylines. The series finale was quite awful all around including the acting. A major let down.
As for Curb – No longer funny and borderline annoying (Please stop all the yelling) as this this season clearly illustrated. You can always fall back on jewish humor and silly kitsch. Also a let down.
Yeah, Curb may have had boffo ratings for its finale, but it creatively crawled to the finish line, save for the Palestine episode and other clever subplots like being with less attractive women prove you have character, and the car periscope. The arguing seems less and less organic and more shoehorned in. Like the episode where the guy got mad at Larry for allegedly cheating his father while playing Scrabble? If this misunderstanding had cleverly built to an argument, I think it would have been more effective. Bloomberg banning Larry from New York? Please.
entourage has been abysmal for years. Doug Elin and the rest of them must have been shocked every year it was renewed. The cast stopped acting 3 years agao and ending the show with vince marrying a person he had one scene with was just flat out stupid, like ok what should we do with vince? I know, have him marry this woman he has zero chemistry with…perfect!
Please do not make a movie
What are you people smoking? Curb was the best season ever. Go get jobs and stop your complaining.
CYE should just call it a series and go out on a high note. No need to be over-exposing this show as like ELRaymond did…finish off strong and call it a day.
Agree with other comments about Curb not being quite as funny this season, although I liked seeing Michael J. Fox and thought he was hilarious. I’d still take the worst Curb episode over Entourage any day. That stopped being good around season 2.
Dear Larry David,
PLEASE make another season, whether its 2 years from now or even a movie..it is a must..
Yes, it went downhill very fast the past 2 to 3 seasons. Maybe it’s the fault of Mrs. personal assistant made executive producer or maybe it just went its course.
All these comments trashing Curb, yet every writer mentions moments they found funny. Collectively, they mention about half the season! This is a show that’s struggling?? Curb just finished its most ambitious and consistent season in 7 years! It got great ratings and jumped right back into the zeitgeist, which is incredible for a show this old. Palestinian Chicken and the Hall of Fame episode were essentially perfect, and nearly every episode had some outstanding element. Take a bow, Mr. David.
Curb is at its best right now!! Loving this season.
I am big fan of Curb & Entourage…. Curb this season had it’s moments, no way as funny as Season 7. Hopefully there will be another season. Entourage what a weak ending. Everyone knows it was going o be a smiley, happy ending. Why only 8 episodes?..in 8 episodes, they had no time to develop any new stories or characters. Lloyd was hardly in it!! Thug have so much more story to tell, why end it after 8 seasons? What the hell are those 4 actors gonna do now!!
Not sure about the movie now.
You’re all mad.
Curb Your Enthusiasm just had one of it’s strongest season. I love it.
As for Entourage, it’s nice to see it went out with good ratings and everyone’s arc had some kind of finality to it. I like happy endings and so in this fantasy version of Hollywood, I say Ari decided not to take the offer and stay with his wife.
I’m just curious as to what all these people who are saying that Curb & Entourage is “not funny”, “lost it”, or “a let down” are actually watching that is so much better, because I would want to watch, too. The shows, although not perfect, are still funny & entertaining compared to a lot of other comparable shows out there, but to read some of the harsh critics out there, it’s like they are watching shows that are made in “TV Heaven”.
Curb is better than ever. What more could anyone want. Funny as shit. Entourage went from great to pure cheese thanks to Musika.
I agree with most of you that Entourage went downhill after season 3 (even though Season 7 was good). I enjoyed CYE this year. It’d be great if there were 2 more seasons.
Entourage – the worst ending to a series ever? maybe! Really, Doug Elin, really? just couldn’t be bothered? what? I was kinda hoping that after having done all those nice things for his friends that you at least killed Vince off – that would have redeemed you. Oh, wait.. the movie… don’t bother if this is what you consider good writing!
