EXCLUSIVE: In what will instantly become one of this season’s highest-profile drama projects, I hear that Ethan Hawke and Vince D’Onofrio have teamed with writer-producer Chris Brancato for a cop drama that has been nabbed by NBC with a production commitment. Brancato conceived the project, titled Blue Tilt, and took it to Hawke and D’Onofrio, who helped shape it. All three will executive produce. The show will star Hawke and D’Onofrio as two seasoned homicide detectives — one married and one divorced — as they solve cases while dealing with their wives/ex-wives and kids. The title Blue Tilt refers
to a cop term for homicide detectives who, as a result of dealing with particularly brutal crimes, become a danger to themselves and are put under psychiatric observation. I hear that the pilot is targeted for a production start by the end of the year in New York, where both Hawke and D’Onofrio live. The two actors are old friends and co-starred in the 2009 feature Staten Island together, while Law & Order: Criminal Intent star D’Onofrio worked with Brancato on the final season of the Law & Order spinoff, on which Brancato served as executive producer/showrunner. This marks D’Onofrio’s return to NBC, where Law & Order: CI started before moving to cable sibling USA Network. Blue Tilt will be produced by newly renamed Universal Television, which also produces the Law & Order franchise. CAA-repped Hawke will next be seen in The Woman In the Fifth, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and is about to start Scott Derrickson’s untitled thriller for Summit. On the TV side, the Oscar-nominated actor recently toplined Fox’s pilot Exit Strategy. D’Onofrio, repped by UTA and the Collective, just wrapped Fire with Fire and Chained. For 13 years, WME-repped Brancato was partnered with producer Bert Salke in Brancato/Salke, which was dissolved in summer 2010.

I love Vincent D’Onofrio and feel he is one of the finest actors of this era. Good luck with this new series. Don’t think this new show can miss. Please make sure that it is weaved into the schedule on a good night and time. Thank you for the great news!
Agreed. I hope they give it a good time slot. Many underestimate the stress these people face so could be interesting.
Heard a horrifying story from an ex-cop this past weekend at a bbq. Apparently body parts (eyes, arms, breathing) can continue for some time despite severe trauma to the head (i.e., shotgun). Lots of other scary stuff.
Will it be filmed in nyc?
Considering they’re both NYC based actors, I’m assuming as much.
I agree I don’t understand why they don’t just keep Law in Order CI, but I will follow Vincent D’Onofrio to the new show “Blue Tilt.”. Now wanting to know what my other favorite actor Christopher Meloni is up to, and why he quit Law in Order SVU.
Teri – I would follow Vincent anywhere – LOL! I still watch the eppies with he and Eames; I miss them both. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Chris and Mr. Wolf didn’t see eye to eye on some matter; it might have been salary, I’m not sure – but I miss him and Olivia together too!
damn how i miss Andy and the NYPD BLUE gang….one of the only hour long shows that i ever invested into time-wise and character interest.
sighs….
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for Vincent D’Onofrio and I’m interested in ‘Blue Tilt’ but; why couldn’t NBC just take ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ back? They have too many “new” crime dramas on NBC as is. I hope LOCI does return (with or without him), Mariska Hargitay is basically taking over ‘Law & Order: SVU’ without Christopher Meloni, I think Kathryn Erbe is fully able to carry ‘Law & Order: CI’ on her shoulders. But still happy D’Onofrio has another job.
I love Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe on Law & Order Criminal Intent. Why can’t they continue that show. They were awesome together. What a neat show!
I didn’t even read the article, i love this show with just the pics of the actors.
NBC just got one of the very, very best writers in Hollywood to do this show. These actors are deserving of the best, and they got it with Chris Brancato. His work and work ethic is extraordinary. And everyone in town knows it.
Yes, from the writer who brought you North Shore and Murder Book!
Worked on CI with Chris. Great guy. Congrats to him.
D’Onofrio is great, and often is better than the material he’s given. Hawke is less stellar, but he was very good in the autobiographical film with Mark Ruffalo. Hard to come up with a new cop angle, but this one sounds promising.
Hmm, Brancato (and VD’O of course) rocked that final season of CI! Think someone other than Ethan Hawke could have been cast though. But I wish D’Onofrio luck, who knows; maybe Kathryn Erbe could guest star!
You have a brilliant idea, then if, for some reason, Eathan Hawke decides or if circumstances it to happen, she could “apply” for the job of his partner so that they could be together again, FABULOUS! They compliment each other so much, hopefully, a reunion time! Love E.H. but Di’nofrio is “da man!
Looking forward to “Blue Tilt”, especially since this season’s L&O:C.I. was the best in many years. I’ve been a fan of this writer for many years.
Thank God Bert’s out of the picture… maybe this will fly now.
Will Arnett is not a star. Leave him alone already. Let him be the C actor he is. Please.
Thank you.
Cannot wait to see this! There have been cop shows since television began. There always will be. We are interested in the kind of heroes that help make us feel safe, people we might have known at school, grown up with, those are Brancato’s staples. I love this writer and these actors and what feels like a terrific look at the delicate balance of balls and heart and the toll it takes on the people who do this job. And, yes, I am among the throng of those who want Vincent’s arms around me. He is so human, such a great actor, attractive the way real men are, the Mitchem’s, the Garfield’s, the Lanchaster’s and the Brando’s,It just better be on a great night. It will span the demos. It’s the Chris Brancato’s that keep us home to be entertained. Thank God for his kind of talent.
Sounds like a whole lot of crazy in one production. Best of luck.
YAY, I’m so happy to see Vincent has a new gig! He’s so much fun to watch. Ethan Hawke is okay, but Vincent is a gem. I hope this show will do well. I wonder if it will be filmed in L.A. or NYC?
Any LOCI fans been on Facebook recently? – facebook.com/renewcriminalintent – Fans want the show back, but it’s changed. The page did have D’Onofrio on it, but they took away for Kathryn Erbe after reading this I assume. I’m so happy for Vinnie and I hope LOCI fans get the show back for Katie! As great as they are together, I’d love to see them leading their own shows! And Brancato can’t fail Blue Tilt!
I’ll definitely be checking this out, but I would much rather have CI back. Or make this a spinoff and cast Kathryn Erbe as Vincent’s wife.
Yes to reuniting Katie Erbe and VDO!
Heck yeah…because unless Kathryn plays Vincent’s wife, I’ll be done with cop shows anyway.
Good lord! Another cop show?
Obviously all the glowing “can’t wait for it” pats on the back being posted here are by people affiliated with the production.
Vincent, I love you as an actor but I’m sick to death of TV cop shows and sick to death of you playing crazy.
I think you underestimate the D’Onofriacs in the web world. Though, I do agree that my heart sunk as I read that it’d be a “crime drama”. Cops, doctors and lawyers – the only professions in the TV world.
how about a drama about a music publisher
so “cop shows” are over? Go watch the Disney Channel and Animal Planet, they have the programming you desire.
Police shows will always be among the greatest, as long as they have personality and a great cast. The Shield and The Wire are 2 of the top 5 shows of the last 10 years.
Me too, There all these crime procedural all using the same standard formula. Why can’t broadcast provide complex crime drama. I have to go to cable for it. I can only find three quality ones:
1.Justified
2.South land
3. The Closer
I’m not alone in thinking audiences don’t want to see what goes on in the policeman’s personal life on these shows. That’s what made the original Law and Order more watchable, because we didn’t have to follow the detectives home and find out about their suffering marriage or their drinking problem. Why don’t the writers get this? It would be more interesting if they showed them in therapy if they want to the cops to have inner demons.
Hawke ruled as a cop on Training Day and NYC is the best city in the world! I can’t wait. Anyone who visits the 9/11 memorial will never want to leave. Let’s get some native NYC actors to work.
I am thrilled to hear about this new series featuring my favorite actor Vincent donofrio I have missed him when law and order was over no one could ever replace Robert goren can’t wait for this series to start .
As tired as I am of cop shows, I’ll watch these two in a cop show.
No offense, but I think most of us can agree that after CI ended, it would exhausting to watch Vincent D’Onofrio in ANOTHER drama cop series. The only reason I’d watch is if it has a hint of a CI-spinoff and Kathryn Erbe is in it, otherwise I’m seriously done.
Can NOT wait for this show.So SAD when the last CI was over. Vincent & Kathryn were PERFECT together.Maybe she will be able to guest on this new show, that will bring alot of CI fans to this show. Best of LUCK, sounds like another BIG HIT….
Can’t wait to see the EXCEPTIONAL acting by D’onofrio—I also enjoy Hawke…we really like police dramas and miss the mentlly stimulating CI
I agree with those who want Goren/Eames. Everyone on the production of CI wanted to continue… except USA… PLEASE PLEASE make this a Goren/Eames show. Even if Hawke/D’onofrio play the leads… he has to be Goren.
I won’t be watching otherwise.
(and I’m with gloria, wouldn’t it have been easier for NBC to just take back CI? *scratches head*)
I WAITED ALL YEAR TO FIND WHAT WAS NEW OR UP FOR VDO, THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO ANNOUNCE IN SEPT… SURE I WAS LOOKING AND HOPING FOR CI TO ANNOUNCE A CONTINUED SEASON BUT THE DUMMIES DON’T SEEM TO REALISE A REAL REAL WINNER NOR THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT CRIMINAL INTENT HAS HAD ON ALL UF US. I’M GLAD TO SEE “SOMETHING” COMING OUT WITH VINCENT IN IT, I’LL EVEN WATCH HAWKE IF NECESSARY TO WATCH MY FAVORITE STAR, ….I HATE WHEN THEY PUT HIM WITH A THERAPIST AND THEY SURE COULD HAVE ELIMINATED THAT CAPTAIN “J. SAUNDERS” LAST YEAR.. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
And just WHEN is this new series to begin. All I see are promises of the show . Here it is MARCH/2012 and there is no mention of WHEN the show will air!!
SPEAK UP…..tell us details of who, what, where, when, and why next time,OK??
