EXCLUSIVE: FX has bought Furlough, an original drama series pitch from crime novelist/comic book writer Charlie Huston and The Walking Dead producer Circle of Confusion. Michael Dinner is attached to direct the potential pilot, with Sony TV, where Dinner is based, on board to produce. Details of the plot are being kept under wraps, but Furlough is described as a private detective/prison drama. Furlough reunites FX, Sony TV, Circle of Confusion and Dinner. Sony TV and Circle of Confusion recently produced the FX comic book-based pilot Powers, directed by CAA-repped Dinner, which is in consideration for a series pickup. Edgar-nominated novelist Huston, repped by Abrams Artists and Circle of Confusion, most recently adapted his 2009 crime noir novel The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death for HBO. The project, titled All Signs of Death, was picked up to pilot, which was directed and executive produced by Alan Ball, but didn’t make the cut to series. In addition to Powers and Furlough, Circle of Confusion has an adaptation of graphic novel Chew set up at Showtime, with Stephen Hopkins attached to direct.

Yeah, the masses are just clamoring to see more PI’s. That profession is so relevant in today’s society, what with their cracking such big cases every day and all… Wait…
This is such hot air. I guess only in Hollywood to people trumpet “potential” successes. What happens when all the pilot pitch sales one reads about are relegated to the dead script pile?
How much money does the TV business waste on pitches that never see the light of day, on passed-on pilots, or quickly canceled series?
Keep throwing those darts with your eyes clenched, you tasteless, network executives.
Fact is, the overwhelming majority of broadcast TV “content” is hackneyed dreck.
GO HUSTON!! Great dude and a super talented writer. If you don’t believe me go out and read Charlie’s “Caught Stealing” and “Six Bad Things.” He’s the real deal. Happy to see good things happen to talented descent people.
Agreed. Huston is a great writer. Those books are fantastic. Here’s hoping the show turns out great!
Huston is a fantastic writer. I second Mike Spector. Read “Caught Stealing,” “Six Bad Things” and “A Dangerous Man.”
And I’m very excited for a cable PI show. Loved “Terriers” and miss it terribly.
