UPDATE: TV and radio political pundit Dennis Miller on Monday announced that he’s endorsing
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain and will headline a political fundraiser in Los Angeles. Miller also is making donations to the campaign and offering to write for Cain, the recent winner of the GOP straw poll in Florida and now the leader of the entire GOP field in a new Zogby poll of Republican primary voters. Meanwhile, the AP is reporting that Donald Trump has become a “must-stop for GOP candidates hoping to bask in the celebrity real estate mogul’s star power”. All the major Republican presidential hopefuls have sought an audience with the host of Celebrity Apprentice, looking for an endorsement or advice.
Mitt Romney is scheduled to meet met with Trump on Monday in New York. Cain’s date with the Donald is said to be upcoming.
Rick Perry already dined with Trump earlier this month at fancy NYC eatery Jean Georges. Michele Bachmann visited Trump’s penthouse atop the Trump Tower in July. Sarah Palin (who’s not yet declared) shared pizza with Trump in Times Square last spring. Trump toyed with throwing his own hat into the ring but would have had to exit Celebrity Apprentice, so he declined. On the other hand, another Hollywood endorsement might not be as welcome to one Republican candidate: that of liberal filmmaker Michael Moore. Moore just told CNN’s Piers Morgan that, of the entire GOP field, “There’s only one who has sanity operating inside of him. And that’s John Huntsman. … He’s smart.”

Thank you for not confusing Dennis Miller with a comedian.
You know what I like about Dennis Miller? Stuff he USED to do.
The only thing he does now that makes me laugh is when he tries to explain that he was never a Democrat or a progressive in the past, that was just what some ppl thought he was.
That always cracks me up.
He was great at the Update desk. Since the HBO series, since the time he was living in France, since 9/11 really … well, let’s just agree that he is the least reported tragedy of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Nothing is more stomach-turning than seeing these Republican “leaders” march one by one to Trump to somehow get his seal of approval and bask in his glow, as if this clown was an actual leader. It’s sad to see Perry, Bachman, and the rest confuse his celebrity status with real clout/prestige. Palin, I can understand, as she’s just another version of Trump. Pure, 100% celebrity whore. It’s almost as bad as watching local NYC politico’s head up to Harlem to kiss Sharpton’s ring at election time.
The whole mess truly lowers the fight for the Republican nomination to the level of a reality show, and a bad one at that. It’s a shame they’re not smart enough to see that.
And no, Trump never really toyed with throwing his own hat into the ring, just as Palin isn’t really considering it. They’re both smart enough to know they have no chance. They just want people to think of them as potential candidates. It helps sell books and drive up their asking price for speaking engagements and TV appearences.
Agree – wish the repubs weren’t kowtowing to trump. Ridiculous!
But Trump is not running for only one reason, and it isn’t b/c he has no chance of winning. You know with his ego there is no doubt in his mind that he would win. The reason is that he would not want to disclose his financials.
What did Miller see or do to lose his mind 10 yrs ago? Amazing!
He finally figured out reality – just like David Mamet.
And seeing Cain pal around with Miller is much better than seeing Ofailure pal around with union thugs and welfare parasites.
A year from now, the anguished meltdown in the democRat camp will be most entertaining.
You have a case of the brainy-deadiness.
No, you do, you liberal loon! Wake up! You and the other liberal loons have been trying to destroy our country for the past 40 years!
When you say welfare parasites, you’re talking about corporations, right? Because they, by far, receive the most government assistance.
9/11. If you listen to the man talk, that was the nail in the coffin for his quickly-dying liberal days. He was saddened and disappointed by the reactions and statements coming from the left, and found he could no longer logically justify his left-leaning viewpoints, and for someone as logical and analytical as Miller, that’s a deal breaker.
He doesn’t disparage the left the way other right-leaning talking heads do, he just can’t tow the same line anymore.
“Logical and analytical”??? He just endorsed someone who claims to have “caught” cancer…
9/11
Hey man, Denny Miller was DYING until he made that turn to the far right. He was three cancelled talk shows in. Plenty of money there for parroting GOP talking points. Just like Bill Maher was a nobody until he went political (and, even though he denies it, to the left).
It’s all about the dough for these guys. Which is cool, I like Maher.
His HBO show was still on the air and pulling good numbers when 9/11 happened, so his career has nothing to do with his politics.
As for Bill, he was a hell of a lot funnier during his Politically Incorrect days, and he lost a lot of his humor when he because a single-minded zealot.
DENNIS MILLER JUST PROVED HE IS A FIRST CLASS -MORON !!!!!
Dennis Miller is smart, witty and far more funny than most of the foul-mouthed and ignorant no-talents who pass for “comedians” working in entertainment today.
This bit of news is blowing a gaping hole in the left-wing’s strategy of labeling the Tea Party as nothing but a bunch of redneck racists. Watch as the media marginalizes Herman Cain by repeatedly calling him “Godfathers Pizza Man” and thoroughly investigating everything he has done since puberty. Mind you, this is something they failed to do when their left-wing darling, Barack Obama was challenging Hillary Clinton for the Democrat party nomination. Barack Obama had ZERO experience anywhere other than the classroom and neighborhood agitation. The failure of the press to do its job investigating and vetting our current president and its attempt to ignore the Florida Straw Poll win by Herman Cain is a startling example of its left-wing leanings.
Herman Cain: just another racist tea party Republican. When will the madness stop?
Not that he was still in the chase anyway but, with a Michael Moore endorsement in his pocket, your an certainly put a bullet in Huntsman’s chances.
When did Miller and Trump become “Hollywood?” Okay, maybe you could have said “GOP Candidates Seeking Comic Help from Losers,” ’cause Birds of a Feather….?
Say what you will about Streisand, Geffen, Katzenberg, et al…they sure outclass Miller and Trump. Imagine turning to those two for advice.
Which would be ironic if Obama loses despite having a 2-1 war chest and leg up in the brains dept.
Herman Cain is an odd choice for Dennis Miller, at least to me. I’m not a Miller fan, never have been, but considering some of Cain’s comments about Muslims and his fear a “creeping attempt … to gradually ease Shariah Law and the Muslim faith into our government” he doesn’t really seem like the Dennis Miller type of candidate. Of course, I haven’t listened to or watched Dennis Miller in years.
Streisand? Dennis Miller is a brilliant man. He gets it on a level that those on your list wish they could achieve.
Economist, if “it” means going from being the wittiest comedic mind of his generation to being a predictable, lame Michael Medved-wannabe, then Dennis does indeed get it.
Those of us who used to love him miss the man he was and have no interest in the Bill O’Reilly sidekick he’s become. Of the SNL alum, I’d say that even Joe Piscopo offers keener political insight…
At least he’s more coherent than Victoria Jackson and most of the has-been celebrities that make up “The Hollywood Republicans.”
It amazes me that just because someone achieves some level of success in the narrow purview of the entertainment industry, they are regarded (by their peers or by themselves) as “intelligent” or “worldly.” Just read a few quotes from Michael Moore, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Rosanne Barr, Rob “Meathead” Reiner, Ron Howard, Sean Penn or Rosie O’Donnell, to name a few and you will quickly hear a frightening level of ignorance. I’m still anxiously awaiting the departure of Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin from our shores. They promised all of us they would board a plane if George Bush was reelected in 2004…so what the hell are these wind bags waiting for?
And of course the vacuous Michael Moore would say something nice about the former Governor of Utah and Ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman. This guy comes across like a smooth-talking used car salesman and has almost no chance of being chosen Vice-President, let alone nominated for president.
AaronSch,
I can’t stop laughing. You think the one remotely reasonable, thoughtful and mature candidate in the Republican field (Ron Paul is a distant second) “comes across like a smooth-talking used car salesman”? Do you wonder why no one takes you guys seriously? (Besudes the fact that you idiots think Trump is a worthwhile ally.)
And FYI, Clooney, Damon, Moore and Meathead are exponentially smarter than anyone you can claim on your side. If the words they use are too big, you should probably keep your mouth shut so everyone else doesn’t know how over your head they are.
DENNIS MILLER HAS BECOME A JOKE. I MEAN IT AS AN INSULT, WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. HES BECOME THIS MEAN SPIRITED SNARKY GUY, WHO I WAS ONCE A FAN OF, NO MORE.
a reliable quote for this situation: “What a revolting development this is”. The world has now become a BRAVO reality show.
Trump isn’t really hollywood is he? That is what America needs is more people stroking Trump’s already inflated ego.
@AaronSch :
All those people you named who have achieved success in the “narrow purview” of the biz we call show have it ALL over every one of the purported candidates for the Republican nom. You must have missed the last three of their debates.
There’s nothing “narrower” than Minnesota, Alaska, and Texas politics.
But don’t mind me; don’t let me keep you from your whooping it up over some gay soldier, or uninsured sick person, or exonerated but still on
death row prisoner.
Wait, they’re trying to raise money? With a Dennis Miller show?
OK. Good luck with that.
Dear GOP: PLEASE nominate a black guy!!
Southern tea-partiers with the choice of two black guys? HEE-LARIOUS!!!!!
Interesting to see no foaming-at-the-mouth comments about Cain. I guess it’s safer to attack white-guy Miller, who’s always been conservative, by the way (see Franken’s comments about Miller during SNL days).
Just remember, cowardly liberals….you say ANYTHING about Cain’s policies or beliefs or past history, and you’re a racist! (see: Obama/Media practices REG.U.S.PAT.OFF)
Jennifer, you know why no one is foaming at the mouth over Cain? He doesn’t have a chance at winning. He’s also slightly less repugnant than Perry.
And by the way, the reason we call Teabaggers like you racists? It’s because you’re racists. And for the record, you’re also cowards. Take care.
Just feel the Love, and Tolerance in the responses to this article.
For you libs/lefties/progs (Socialist who won’t admit it), maybe you should take a look at how your ‘fellow travelers’ are acting. Introspection is always, but a rarely used, choice for your side. It’s painful to admit you are wrong, but a first step to recovery.
How can you not be ashamed of the way your fellow believers act? Oh right, no shame due to no morals or values. I keep thinking you are like us. Oh well, we all make that mistake. Like when you lefties scream Racism when losing an argument.
I am not a fan of “the Donald,” however he is successful, has created jobs, has a real education, and lives in the real world. Compare that to actors who play make-believe for a living, hop on the “accepted” causes because their agent said they needed the exposure, believe that ‘good writing’ is equivalent to leadership (Where is TOTUS?), and live in a fantasy land that they believe is real.
Actors are told what to say, where to say it, how to say it, when to say it, what to look like, and how to emote the lines. Just like children. They then want us to take them seriously on any subject; because their yes-men told them to “get a cause.” Oh it just hit me; that’s why Actors are usually lefties, they think everyone should be told what to do, and feel guilty for making a lot of money they know they don’t deserve (again assuming that everyone else with wealth is like them, lucky). There is that projection thing, again.
Last but not least, it’s time for Hollywood insiders, who are always telling everyone else how to live,to address the bigotry toward non-Jews, and non-libs/progs/lefties (aka Socialists) and LEAD BY EXAMPLE. If you won’t live by your principles, why should we listen to you on anything. Remember libs/progs/lefties have said that if you don’t live your beliefs you are unfit to comment on anything. So, start living your beliefs, or shut up.
There’s no way Mark’s not a Liberal plant. Nobody’s that hilarious in real life.
Also, I love that “doesn’t hate gays, blacks, Jews, or Mexicans” is a reason to hit us reasonable folks with the slur “Tolerant.” I’m not tolerant at all — I’m just a reasonable person who doesn’t hate people who are different. I do, however, hate people who hate people for being different. Y’know? Teatards.
The Republicans are really pathetic when it comes to Hollywood. They bash Hollywood yet secretly yearn for their acceptance. They will grab on to any celebrity they can get. Dennis Miller? Donald Trump… even after he embarrassed himself? Really pathetic. When you bash a community like Hollywood, at least stick to your guns. But grabbing onto thrid or fourth tier Hollywood celebrities?
I am surprised to see all the hate for a man who has an IQ that triples any studio head and the racism against Mr. Cain. What’s the matter with you liberals? Did you loose your knee jerk reaction playbook?
Where has there been any racism against Cain? Cite ONE example, please. Oh, you can’t? Wow, that’s shocking! Another Teatard making up stuff without sourcing it.
Also, it’s “lose.” But thanks for playing. I seriously don’t know why you Teahadists are such maschists. You get destroyed every time you comment here.
This is the funniest damn thing Dennis Miller has said or done in about 15 years.
And I thought he’d lost it all and would never get another real laugh.
This is HILARIOUS, Dennis. Welcome back!
Reading all these comments, you know what I’ve noticed? All the anger, meanness and slander comes from the left toward the right. Note: calling people “teatards” and racists is getting really really old, and it’s starting to backfire on your party. By the way, if you disagree with anything Cain says, you’re a racist. (Hey, that’s not fair!)
Thank god a smart comedian and talk show host is getting behind a good guy with tons of work experience. Miller is highly regarded, and it tells me something about him for choosing Cain. Cain might still be a longshot, but who knows for sure. Winning Florida was major for him. Now Miller will excite his show biz base for Cain, and you never know what’ll happen. In a debate with Cain and the community organizer – Cain would smoke him. The other guy has nothing in his experience skillset, even now after almost 3 years. NOTHING.
