  • I’m in. Looks great.

  • The trailer is obviously intended to hook fans of the book, but for people like me who’ve managed to avoid the Dragon Tattoo phenomena, it doesn’t have too much to make me want to see it. It just like a retread of some pretty well-worn film noir tropes with a Swedish setting.

Comment by Michael — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 1:49am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Americans doing Swedish accents, but Brits get to keep their English accents? Okie dokie.

Not hating, I’ll still probably see it. But it does look like a really pointless carbon copy of the Swedish movie.

  • Looks almost exactly like the original version which is not a bad thing. Looking forward to this, and hopefully they will remake/adapt the other films/books in the series.

  • DOPE! Something that’s dense AND isn’t afraid of being exciting. Midnight show for me.

Comment by Glass — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 2:28am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Not sure they showed quite enough of the movie in that trailer. Maybe could have added who did it at the end as well?

Comment by Alec Eiffel — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 3:05am PDT  Reply to this post
    • Seriously. I read the book (which actually wasn’t very good) and saw the first movie (which was good) so of course I know the story but talk about leaving NOTHING to the imagination. One need not see the film just watch this very dense trailer.

But yeah… it looks good to me. Rooney’s accent is excellent and it’s hard for Americans to do N. Euro accents.

Comment by monique — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 8:44am PDT  Reply to this post
    • I was thinking the same thing. Even though I read the book they gave away a lot in this trailer for people who may not have read the book or seen the original film.

  • Tattoo stencils are both loved and hated in the tattoo industry and in tattoo culture. Some see it as a disgrace to the art and the integrity of tattooing. Most people in the industry advocate tattoos that represent a person’s emotions, feelings, past experiences, and inner essence.

  • The accents are off, the images are too similar to the Swedish original. But it’s a David Fincher movie so yeah I’ll most likely buy a ticket. The score should be terrific…

Comment by Daniel — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 3:20am PDT  Reply to this post
    • Kind of let down by this-especially bec. the first trailer was so awesome. Its too long- the scene with the raping priest doesn’t look like it has any new dramatic choices or tension. So yeah, it’s looks like a remake with more money, but that’s about it.

Fincher…could it be you’ve made something completely unnecessary?

Comment by scribe — Friday September 23, 2011 @ 8:59am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Mr. Fincher…I salute you…You rock on so many levels…

Comment by Irish Man — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 3:26am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. THIS TRAILER ROCKS!!!!

Fincher’s keeping her bi (assuming she still sleeps with Blomkvist). Whoo hoo. He didn’t change her for the religious right bigoted USA freaks. Let the protests begin.

    • The only bigot on this thread is you.

Comment by TF — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 11:20am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Fantastic. Piqued my interest even more than the teaser.

Comment by Wicked — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 3:58am PDT  Reply to this post
  • It looks like they just copied the original which was really good in the first place. It was copied so neatly that they could have been working off of the original storyboards. However, the original movie was much edgier and the original actress cannot be replaced. They even cast very similar characters. Waste of money. Although, these actors look like they did a fine job, copying the original so closely ….why bother?

Comment by DL — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 4:01am PDT  Reply to this post
    • How do you know the original movie was edgier if you haven’t seen this one yet?

Comment by b — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 10:33am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Wow, is that the most boring trailer in the history of PR or what? Seriously, WTF?

Comment by Mike — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 4:23am PDT  Reply to this post
    • Not every trailer needs explosions in it to be exciting. If that’s what you’re looking for wait for the next Michael Bay movie.

Comment by G — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 9:31am PDT  Reply to this post
    • totally agree! I didn’t think you could get bored in a few minutes but this trailer achieved on all levels. Seriously. When is someone going to reign it in.

      cut. cut. cut. cut. cut.

oh, and then cut some more.

      Get over yourself!

  • Wohooo!! The Swedish invasion of Hollywood continues! Hahah.. freakin’ fantastic, can’t wait! Heading to a party in Stockholm tonight wearing my new hot dress for a beer in the sun! :)

Comment by Johanna — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 4:23am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Can I just say that this doesn’t really look that great to me…

I know I’ll be crucified as a hater (I’m not) for saying this, but I think this film has all the appeal of an old chocolate donut that’s been sitting in the box too long. Fincher is obviously a good director, and I know the books were / are extremely popular… but this entire project just feels so damn UGH to me. Not least because it seems like a project built exclusively around hype and marketing, as opposed to something sincerely interesting or ambitious.

Having taken my swing, let it be known that I’m one of those losers who dreams of getting into the industry as a writer / director but has still to find his break. So what the **** do I know… but to me this thing just feels wrong. Then again, I hated Inception too.

Comment by Jeff G — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 4:44am PDT  Reply to this post
    • I pretty agree with you completely although I wouldn’t go so far as to say I hated Inception only that I didn’t love it

I saw the Swedish version of Dragon Tatoo and I thought it was very well done. I just don’t see the point of making it in an American version. The only reason why I may watch it is to see Fincher’s take on the story and how it differs to the Swedish version. It should at least make for a nice compare and contrast study.

Comment by Zach — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 8:18am PDT  Reply to this post
    • I don’t agree with you but I definitely think everyone is entitled to their opinion, and its cool you’re coming from the perspective of a writer. I loved the books and the Swedish films and personally don’t feel a “Hollywood” version is necessary. Especially since it’s being released so close to the original films.

I do think though that Fincher is a great director and he can/hopefully will do justice to the original story. I plan on seeing the film because I’m a fan of the books and the Swedish films. But it will be interesting to see if people who aren’t familiar with the story are interested in seeing it…

  • I’m sure the books are great. That many copies sold can’t be wrong.

But for whatever reason, after viewing the original film adaptations, this story, with it’s dull tone and even duller heroine, does not hold up well in a film format.

I can’t say that I’m anymore impressed with Fincher’s latest addition to the franchise.

Don’t get me wrong, I heart Fincher, the man’s a freakin’ genius: But this story is anything but.

Comment by Robert — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 5:45am PDT  Reply to this post
    • I beg to differ regarding the amount of copies of a book sold indicating quality. For you to make that remark, I’m assuming you’ve never read any Dan Brown.

Comment by TF — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 11:27am PDT  Reply to this post
      • Ha I was going to say I’m assuming you’ve never read any Stephanie Meyer.

Comment by Britt — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 2:30pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • This film is going to be amazing.
    In Fincher, I trust

Cue all the haters saying the Swedish films were better, because they were ok at best.

Comment by Tony — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 7:07am PDT  Reply to this post
    • Agreed – what is wrong with all you “purists”? Swedish films were a faithful adaptation but brought nothing else to the table. If you’re a true fan of the book, you’re as excited as I am to see what Fincher can do.

Comment by R.MacG — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 2:04pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • This looks very, good, dark & edgy like the books. Mara is totally transformed! Wow!

Comment by Twilautner — Thursday September 22, 2011 @ 7:08am PDT  Reply to this post
  • I thought the first preview they cut was cold, distant, and uninteresting. This one looks tremendous. Very cool.
