Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church star in Cameron Crowe’s newest helming effort We Bought A Zoo, which now has a trailer. 20th Century Fox releases it Dec. 23. Crowe’s last feature — outside documentaries — was 2005′s Elizabethtown, which didn’t do so hot.

Was distracted by the boom mic @ :41.
Ehhh… It was just unfortunate framing. You can clearly see the sign hanging off a building across the street in the previous shot. That’s all it is at :41 — the bottom of that sign above Church’s head.
Cameron Crowe bought a zoo & 20TH Century Fox bought a stinker.
Wait… this isn’t a Funny Or Die set-up?
T-t-this is an actual motion picture?
Oh…
Oh, God.
[Stands, mouth agape, horrified.]
I hope the movie isn’t as cringe-inducing as the trailer. Nicely edited to take advantage of an undemanding heartland audience over Christmas.
Unlike the demanding audience of LA that would want what on Christmas?
Jon Stewart has a segment called “You’re Not Helping.” Guess what. You’re not helping.
If this didn’t have the name “Cameron Crowe” on it, I’d be extremely wary of the high level of sentimentality, but frack it, after “Say Anything” and “Almost Famous,” Crowe’s earned the right for me to take a chance. I’m there.
Also, John Michael Higgins is awesome.
Slightly confused. So it’s a feel-good movie about imprisoning animals in their non-native habitat? Joy!
Feels a bit forced. Hope the movie is better.
Agreed. The whole dad being selfish, doing shit for himself thing is really overplayed. It feels like it’s forcing drama out of this situation that doesn’t seem to really have that much conflict. I mean, what is actually the problem here?
This looks great.
Matt Damon Rules!
Well, the same trailer music worked wonders for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
Dude, this is Tom Petty – “Don’t Come Around Here No More.” Classic song.
Interesting that the trailer was released at the same time nude pics of ScarJo leaked..
I was to busy thinking about J.B. Smoove wearing glasses in his scene to concentrate on the trailer.
More like “We Bought a Poo.” At least from the looks for the trailer. Unfortunate, too, because I’d love for Crowe to bounce back after Elizabethtown. He’s had some amazing films.
It looks shockingly awful. I really expected more given the participants. I am a fan of everyone involved and that is one shitty trailer. What happened to Fox marketing? Is that really the best scenes in the movie. I was expecting the animals to talk.
I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile. My wife is 17 years younger than me, so it’s odd that I find it odd that 40-something Damon’s love interest is mid-20′s SJ.
Matt Damon, really? Pass.
It’s kind of like Evan Almighty meets How Do You Know?. Meaning, this is the holiday turkey with a bad high-concept premise.
Yeeaach he brought that awful kid from Almost Famous back.. Good lord. Pass.
OK, is it me or is this the most poorly edited trailer ever? I thought I had a jerky internet connection, but it ran exactly the same the second time so it’s actually a jerky trailer.
Slinging Sigur Ros on the trailer dates it 5 years already. Uncool Dad. Uncool.
I think it’s sort of offensive that they say all you need is heart to care for 47 different animal species. How about hiring an educated specialist to care and nuture those imprisoned animals instead of a 5 year old?
You’re so missing the point. Special knowledge is something you can learn, a big heart is something you’re born with. Ben (my brother in law) was born with one, you clearly weren’t. I’ll leave it there.
You lost me at, “The sellers say, you don’t need any special knowledge to run a zoo. What you need is a lot of heart.”
Oy vey.
I’m no hater, mind you. Love me some Matt Damon and Cameron Crowe. But how could such smart people be involved with something so schmaltzy? Here’s a tip, boys: When you see dialogue like that in a script, RUN. Or better yet, rewrite it so it’s poignant, not cheesy.
Ben’s the character played by Matt Damon if you hadn’t worked that out, which I suspect you hadn’t.
Awesome, this is going to rock. Crowe is having a great year – first PEARL JAM TWENTY and now this. He is back.
I’m amazed at the complete ignorance of posters. They watch a 2 min trailer and know exactly what the movie is! I for one don’t, but I wont assume anything because of a stupid trailer. You all wish you were film makers, that’s why you’re all so bitter!
I’m looking forward to seeing this movie at my local theatre when it comes out.
Here’s my snark:
For those of you who live in the wilderness and want to see all your fellow humans freed from the zoos they live in please read, Life of Pi, or better yet anything written about animal welfare by actual biologists who work with actual animals and not land developer mouth pieces.
