When new syndicated talk show Anderson debuted with a so-so 1.1 household rating on Monday, the producers called the rating atypical, claiming it was depressed because the show had to face the U.S. Open men’s tennis final in major markets, including New York. But on Day 2, Anderson Cooper’s talk show didn’t get a bump, drawing the same 1.1 household. It had a small uptick in the women 25-54 demo, from a 0.6 to a 0.7 rating. Meanwhile, the premiere of veteran talker Dr. Phil, which was pushed to Tuesday due to U.S. Open-related pre-emptions on the CBS stations, posted a 4.6 household rating for its exclusive interview with the parents of Casey Anthony. It was Dr. Phil‘s highest-rated season premiere in 7 years, up 92% from last season’s opener. Dr. Phil led the syndicated talk show pack yesterday, including Regis & Kelly (2.7/10), Dr. Oz (2.5/7), Ellen (2.3/6) and Maury (1.6/5).

Did any of these geniuses look at this guy’s ratings on CNN before giving him a talk show? I guess they’re too busy giving lectures around the country on how to lose money.
NO, both the East & West coast elites NEVER let the facts or truth get in the way of their agendas. Cooper, a preening schmoo of limited intellect and ability but a wealth of opinion, never tires of advocating rather than informing. Endlessly wrong and endlessly tiresome does not seem to matter to the braintrusts as long as Cooper, et al share their out of the mainstream views.
NEXT UP, Katie Couric.
Anderson is one of the most over rated – over hyped TV personalities. I don’t look at him as a journalist, but a TV host. While CNN has tried to make him the face of their news tradtion, he misses the boat. Bring back Aaron Brown – a man of integrity and strong news tradition. Anderson does not carry the credentials to host another program. If CNN wants to get serious about news, get a real newsperson to be the face of a long hard fought reputation as the news channel.
Anderson Cooper is a real newsperson, with many years experience as a journalist. He also has integrity. I like him and will continue to watch.
This was a bad idea.
Anderson Cooper is buff
I’m curious if he will survive the ratings. I’m really on the fence about his show. While I absolutely love Anderson Cooper as my anchor man who I trust to deliver the World news;I find him too brilliant to be Oprahesque. He isn’t the sort of fellow that would make me opoen up about my fears or concerns. Because that dilutes his image as a strong, educated anchor man.
Cooper is smart; at least smarter than most in his position. If he had courage, he could make a difference. He could matter.
But, ultimately, he’s comfortable and wants to stay comfortable. He wants to be a star.
Where there you are, pal. A regular daytime fixture.
Smile for your close up, good boy.
Isn’t this the guy from Celebrity Mole? I must’ve missed the many years as a journalist.
I do not like Anderson Cooper and never watch him.
I will not ever watch Dr. Phil. I cannot even bear the sight of him! I was not included in those ratings.
I like Anderson as a person, but this was a bad idea.
MAJOR foul: Kathy Griffin. She may be your BFF, but she’s offensive to majority of US. Anderson is a FAB journalist, but to have the likes of Griffin and Snooki on his show drags down his credibility BIG TIME.
You can’t insult half of your potential audience and expect them to tune in… Mark my words, there are more and more of us tuning out certain celebrities, actors and television hosts with an obvious agenda. There are plenty of better entertainment options.
Anderson is neither AC360 nor CNN just saying.
He’s a star in New York media circles where a membership at David Barton Gym and dinner at Per Se is de rigeur. Otherwise, he’s an also-ran in the minds of average Americans, especially in the Heartland.
I don’t hold it against him that he’s the son of Gloria Vanderbilt, but a guy who grew up rich can’t have a clue what matters to people struggling with mortgages, feeding a family of four and who consider a night out a visit to Chuck E. Cheese.
Sure, Oprah is rolling in it now, but she had humble beginnings and remembers her roots. Poor Anderson can only guess what it means to survive on a meager salary or no salary at all.
I really thought this show made sense given Oprah’s departure and other shows like Ellen being celebrity geared or The View/The Talk being women focused panels. I was surprised how…I dunno…awkward it all feels. The audience is clearly not engaged and is giving cued applause and the show’s topics and guests are just random. Amy Winehouse’s parents..ok, good choice, interesting at least….next show, Snooki, Kathy Griffin?…who is the target demo here?
The shows feel like they have TREMENDOUS filler and really need more focused content. He’s discusing working moms/stay at home moms today…with a celebrity panel….so it is social discussion or a plug for Sarah Jessica Parkers new movie? or both?
He should go the route of Donahue and take some heavy discussions to the homes of america. Clearly The View wins with this in the Hot Topics portion.
Sorry … Anderson is no Oprah …
great news flash caster, horrible talk show host.
Anderson Cooper is the best tv host on the news and on his show love it .
