EXCLUSIVE: Jackie Earle Haley is set for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, playing the role of Alexander Stephens. Stephens was vice president of the Confederate States during the Civil War and a nemesis of Lincoln’s slavery reform agenda. He is remembered for an infamous speech in which he said that slavery was the “natural condition of blacks and the cornerstone of the Confederacy.” The Spielberg-directed film shoots this fall and DreamWorks is eyeing a late 2012 release date, after the presidential elections. Daniel Day-Lewis plays Abraham Lincoln, Sally Field plays Mary Todd, and Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also star. Haley, whose career was resuscitated with his Oscar-nominated performance in Little Children, is currently in London shooting the Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows for Warner Bros. Haley is repped by CAA and managed by Leslie Rice.

Fantastic actor — so happy to see Jackie is getting quality work. Talent survives, what a rare thing.
This is going to be a wonderful movie. I hope it just sticks to the historical facts with less creative license.
Super talent and super nice guy. Anybody else remember when he did SLAB BOYS Off-Broadway with Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon & Val Kilmer? Made such an impression on me. Glad he was “re-discovered.”
He was the best part of Human Target. Glad he is getting some quality work now.
very happy for him. So few people I really want to root for, and he is one of them!
Spot on casting.
Todd Field… where are you? we need your unique voice again…
Absolutely breathtaking. Oscars for all involved.
Random Batman connection – Old Two-Face and John Blake together on screen.
Breathtaking??????
Fan since BREAKING AWAY, and now he’s living a real underdog story.
Haley’s got to be one of the most magnetic presences on the screen. While the movie itself had haters, his performance in WATCHMEN deserved an Oscar nomination. He’s like Peter Dinklage in being this incredibly unlikely but completely compelling performer who instantly raises the level of his projects.
This movie may have the best ensemble cast in history.
Yes, the best ensemble cast in history. Far better than Grand Hotel, for instance.
Best cast in history? What about Ard, Grub, Irk, and Krom in the caveman performance of “To Kill a Pterodactyl”, circa 40,000 B.C.? Well?!
i love this guy! agree with top comment… talent survives.
Had him pegged as a star since Bad News Bears!!!
I’m still peeved at Fox for canceling Human Target, such a fun show, but love that JEH is going to be back on the big screen, love him.
Awesome choice. He was great in Watchmen.
Yay! I’m so happy for and proud of Jackie. Glad that Hollywood seems to be realizing that Mr. Haley is insanely talented. He deserves to get great work and receive engaging roles. He is such an incredible actor and as others have pointed out, a nice person. I don’t know what it is about him that’s so engaging and appealing but he is very unique and charming. He was really wonderful in ‘Bad News Bear’, ‘Breaking Away’, ‘Little Children’, ‘All The Kings Men’ and especially ‘Watchmen’. I look forward to seeing his upcoming performances in ‘Dark Shadows’, ‘Lincoln’, and perhaps future ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ sequels. Say what you want about the remake but I think it was decent and he did a great job as the new Freddy. He had that intensity and creepiness of what made the character so scary and popular. Anyway, I wish nothing but the best for him and I hope he continues to have a blessed career and life.
