EXCLUSIVE: With 2 new series, Person of Interest and Alcatraz, one returning, Fringe, and a Star Trek movie sequel on his plate, it wasn’t clear whether J.J. Abrams would be developing this year. He did, and the result, a drama written by Supernatural creator/executive producer Eric Kripke, has gotten a pilot production commitment from NBC. Like most things J.J., details about the project titled Revolution are being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as an epic adventure thriller. It hails from Abrams’ Bad Robot production company and Warner Bros. TV where the company is based. Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing.
This is the second high-profile project for Kripke this season. The writer, repped by WME and Principato-Young, also is writing/executive producing an adaptation of the DC Comic Deadman for the CW and WBTV. At NBC, Bad Robot previously produced short-lived spy drama Undercovers and had an action drama penned by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec and starring Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn set up at the network with a put pilot commitment last season.

Surprised JJ put his name on Persons of Interest — what a snooze fest.
Not just a snooze fest. One of the most ridiculous premises for a series, ever.
What’s Kripke’s plan should both series go forward? Just greedy. Leave some work for everyone else!
Kripke already left Supernatural. He’s still the creator, but he’s not working on it anymore. So, greed?
@Anthony
He’s talking about Deadman.
Hoping this is about Joe Roth’s failed attempt at creating a movie studio. Would be filled with tons of action, dirtbags and plenty of filth (his taste in projects). Why this thing could play forever, baby…
If it’s anywhere near as good as Alcatraz I’m in. I loved that pilot.
Abrahams should be working on Star Trek XII, THATS what he should be doing!!!!!
But hey, this sounds good! AFTER HES DONE WITH ST DAMMIT! ^__^
After Kripke’s bailout on Supernatural, I’m not willing to give any thing he does much attention.
Come on, the guy wanted to tell a 5 year story and that’s what he did. When the network decided they wanted more seasons, he stepped down as showrunner, because he had ended the series how he wanted to end it.
And even after that he didn’t entirely abandon the series. He stayed on as an executive producer.
I think he should be commended for sticking to his 5 year plan, as well as not alienating the fans by “bailing out” on the show entirely.
So, you’re against a guy caring about his working and not wanting to work on something that is not going along with what he wants? You want just another soulless whore who’ll do basically anything?
I’m guessing you work for Platinum Dunes. Or you just have no idea what you’re talking about.
Erik Kripke and J.J Abrams together, finally the unspoken rivalry will end and TV as we know it might change
About Kripke “bailing” on Supernatural, not only was he an exec producer last year, he actually wrote the season finale and is still an executive consultant for this season. I give him credit for stepping aside and allowing other writers to get their shot at taking over and moving up. He’d stated for a long time that he had a five season story/plan — he had completed that story and moved on. It’s a lot more respectable than sticking around, pulling something out of his ass and stretching it out just to stay there. Supernatural fans are hillarious though, they’ll complain about anything anyone does either way so whatever.
(And I say this as a fan of the show myself, most SPN fans are absolute self-important idiots.)
And Kripke is selfish for developping two shows? Um… what exactly does that make Abrams or Chuck Lori or the people who are EPs of Vampire Diaries/The Secret Circle… isn’t Gossip Girl’s main show runner the same as Chuck’s? But yeah, it’s Kripke hogging all the work. Especially considering he stepped aside so that Sera Gamble could move up to show runner for Supernatural (isn’t a lack of female show runners something everyone complains about?) and other writers faithful to the show could get promoted as well. Your post is feces, just stop.
Am I the only one who thinks JJ Abrams heat as a TV creator should be cold by now. He’s getting shows and put pilots and penalties because he’s a celebrity, not because the shows are good. Shouldn’t his heat be dialed back to warm after “Undercovers”, that was horrific. Fringe is a good show, but the only reason it’s still on is because his name is on it. At least when Bruckheimer had his run, the shows were ratings hits, so I could understand to a degree, but this JJ thing needs to get its feet back on the ground quickly.
Note to networks: JJ Abrams is absolutely no guarantee of quality or ratings, so stop acting like he invented television and save yourself some money!
I totally agree…give others a chance to show their creative sides as well. SPN premier did VERY well and u know the cast and crew will all do great on the continuation of the series.
Nice! Definitely a fan of both Abrams and Kripke, so looking forward to this project. If done well, it could be a high concept hit that’ll help NBC draw in eyes.
I love it when a Major network like NBC throws caution and Money to the wind and gambles on an absolutely rediculous premise that all electricity will just cease. To even watch the trailer you have to park your Brain at the door.. If electricity stops flowing we all Die because the electrical impulses that travel our neural pathways in our brain and keeps our heart beating are just that , electrical impulses.. This is where Homer Simpson says. “DOH” ..I can only imagine that someone lost a bet somewhere down the line and this is the payoff.
