The seemingly nightly Republican presidential candidate debates on the cable news networks have started to pick up traction in the ratings as the storylines among the major players begin to emerge (i.e., as Rick Perry and Mitt Romney distance themselves from the pack as frontrunners). Last night’s Fox News/Google debate on Fox News Channel was the year’s most-watched debate yet, averaging 6.1 million total viewers and 1.7 million viewers in the key 25-54 demographic for its 9-11 PM ET time slot. That’s especially impressive as it beat the viewership numbers of several new series airing on the competing broadcast networks during premiere week including NBC’s Prime Suspect.

Watching idiots argue about ways to destroy our country is infinitely more entertaining than those two shows.
Uh, newsflash Benji! Our country is ALREADY destroyed. These are the janitors getting in line for clean-up duty.
I’m not a big Republican fan, but unless we offer up someone else — and I’d vote for Hillary at this point — our party is going to lose. We already know that.
Janitors? Dude, read some history. The “cleaning” they want to do will destroy the already brittle infrastructure holding this country together. If they get their hands on the reins we will have the biggest economic collapse in world history. Taxes are already at record low and they want to take them lower. Not a fan of the President, but can’t see voting him out for any of the current Republicans.
“Dude, read some history.”????
Stifledgenius, maybe it’s time to PUT DOWN the history books and get caught up on current times?? If you took a moment to do so you’d realize in under 5 that we are CURRENTLY living “biggest economic collapse in world history”.
Come on, man! Catch up! You want a Democrat in office? Hillary Clinton. Do you see what Mr. “Hope & Change” has done in 3 years? No, you’re reading about “history”. Well, it’s pretty bad and anyone that wants 4 more years is just insane or a masochist.
Ron Paul has a bill (HR 2306) that would give Marijuana Rights to the states. Imagine – if all those stiff-shirted republicans smoked pot – how cool Earth might be? Hemp for Victory..!
Wow, it beat the destined to fail charlie’s Angel and a NBC show? How impressive.
Thank you to the GOP audience members that booed the US Soldier and thank you to the GOP that allowed the booing to go on… you Republicans really showed the country and the world how true-blue Americans you are. Thank you. Now I know I don’t want to be part of “your country”.
Oh, you mean you are going to paint the entire Republican Party with a broad brush because of the disrespectful act of one person? Hmmmm… sounds strangely similar to what bigots and racists do…
Oh, please. Did anyone in the audience or on the stage speak against the booing and call those people out? They were complicit with their silence.
Why, yes. Yes I will.
Pass the brush.
@AaronSch — I see you didn’t repudiate the idiots that booed in your little childish statement. The ones that booed and the ones that DID NOTHING are guilty of being un-American. (I’m sorry maybe “refudiate” is more of the term you understand)
I, personally, thought it was disgusting.
My second thought was that it was painfully obvious that it was a plant and why the heck didn’t one of the candidates say something? (And if anyone thinks plants placed by the opposition don’t exist in political forums, well, might want to chase that blue pill down with the Kool-Aid you’ve been drinking.)
None of the candidates said anything because they’re all afraid. They’re afraid of taking a stand on ANYTHING that might piss off the crazypants religious right (tea partyers) who have temporary power over the conservative base – at this moment. They all want to be nominated/elected, and how will they achieve that if they show a thread of decency? That would be heresy to their base constituents.
Chickenshits, all of ‘em. At least Bachmann walks the walk (because she believes the booing was apropos).
And yeah, it was/is comedy. Better than any Ashton Kutcher or Charlie Sheen. And kinda scary at the same time.
GOP debate? I thought I was watching Hee Haw.
If the Democrats wouldn’t have screwed things up royally over the last 3 years or so, I would be laughing at your comment. However, the country’s situation is no laughing matter thanks to President “Zero” and his henchmen, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank and former Senator Christopher Dodd. Personally, I think the latter two should be investigated due to their involvement with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Funny, the scandalous Democrat Senator from Connecticut was the choice to head the MPAA.
Mark my words, the Obama Administration is going to go down as the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States of America. The Mexican gunrunning scandal and the Solyndra Scandals are just the tip of the iceberg. Trillions of taxpayer dollars have been squandered and this president is trying to deflect blame to a Republican House of Representatives that has only been in control since January. He got everything he wanted through congress the first two years of his administration when the Democrats had a super majority in both houses.
The simple fact that the American people have come to realize is that the policies of Barack Hussein Obama have failed and he must go!
Your hyperbole just shows how you are parroting talking points.
If Obama loses in 2012 he will go down as one of the most mediocre (i.e. not good not bad) presidents ever.
Seriously, what has he even done other than compromise at every turn? His only piece of real legislation, the healthcare bill, was so compromised that he might as well have just not passed it.
So I think it’s humorous when Republicans all act like he’s some ultra right wing, socialist menace. He’s shown himself to be the single most moderate DFL president of the past 50 years. To the right of Clinton, even.
Obama PUBLICLY bashed Bush for spending 4 trillion in 8 years. Obama’s done it in TWO AND A HALF.
There is absolutely NOTHING “mediocre” about spending FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS in two and a half years.
I voted for Obama. I messed up. I’m man enough to admit. I’m not going to let my “pride” ruin this country further and have to explain what we did — what we allowed — to my great grandchildren.
Huh?…Do you really believe that the government controls jobs in this country? Do you really believe lower taxes will do anything other than put money in Corporate executive pockets? Think about this….Coca Cola just announced they are “investing” 4 Billion dollars in China this year. People, the jobs are in China, Brazil, and India. Why…because they are emerging markets for their emerging middle class. And labor is cheap. So stop finger pointing and belly aching and name calling and demanding the government do something. We need to figure out if we can fit into a global market place. And all the whining, complaining, and blaming are not positive or productive in the good.
You must be smokin’ some medical Marijuana.
“The Obama Administration is going to go down as the most corrupt administration in the history of the United States of America.”
Seriously? What?… and another thing i have been hearing from GOP, what has he done to make everyone think he’s a socialist…? The way he’s been running this country for the last three years, you would think he’s a moderate republican…
It isn’t hard to beat anything on NBC.
Previous comments sound idiotic, much like the idiot currently in the white house. Sorry to be the one to break it to u libturds, but on that debate stage is the next president in 2012!
Which one? The Mormon? The lady with the crazy eyes? Or the C-minus dimwit who wanted Texas to secede from the Union?
Don’t forget, those bad grades make many voters feel safe. They don’t like a President whose intelligence intimidates them. So they label him “stupid”.
“To those of you who received honors, awards, and distinctions, I say, well done. And to the C students I say, you, too, can be President of the United States.”
George W. Bush: Commencement Address at Yale University – May 21, 2001
Or maybe the genius in there now who is proud of the ‘intercontinental railway’ we built (during a photo op in front of a bridge ineligible for the funding he announced), who waved in a UN group photo blocking someone’s face, or who said Lincoln founded the republican party. And that’s just the last two weeks. He also can’t speak ‘Austrian’ or pronounce the word ‘corpsman’ despite being CIC, and of course that 57 states thing. If Dan Quayle is still being pilloried over misspelling potato 20 years ago, that 57 states line has a ways to go before it’s retired…
They all sounded like Bush. Bush is the reason our economy sucks. Bush started two illegal wars in order to enrich his cronies on Wall Street, Big Oil, Halliburton, and Wal-Mart, at the expense of women, children, minorities, gays, non-Christians, atheists, and the handicapped. Bush’s tax cuts for the rich were designed to destroy the ability of minorities to receive the necessary assistance to survive.. Look at how many blacks are facing foreclosure as a result. Yet, all people want to do is blame the black President, for obvious reasons, because he is black and the victim of racism by the white Religious Right and the Tea Party, which is the modern KKK that wants to get rid of the “darky” President so we can get back to the business of ignoring global warming so there can be more Katrinas and cutting the public assistance to the minorities and women that need it most. Remember people, a vote for a Republican is a vote for Bush, racism, homophobia, misogyny, and the hatred of children and the elderly.
Brian, You are an idiot. If you weren’t such an absolute idiot, I would be angry. I’m just glad you are on the other side. Anytime people criticize this imbecile president, they are called racist. I have news for you, I hated Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton as well… last time I checked as you put it, they aren’t “darkies.” I guess I am a self-hating white dude!
Man-made global warming / climate change is a redistribution of wealth scam that is falling apart at the seams. Satellite data from NASA covering the years 2000 through 2011 cast doubt on current computer models predicting global warming. The data shows that much less heat is retained by carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere than is assumed in current models. ‘There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans,’ said Dr. Roy Spencer, a co-author of the study and research scientist at the University of Alabama.”
In addition, the sub-prime mortgage debacle is largely to blame for the economic conundrum we face. People who do not demonstrate and ability to pay a mortgage should never have been given one! DUH! But you can thank the “Community Reinvestment Act” and greedy real estate speculators for the collapse of the housing market.
The liberal-socialist-progressive agenda is dead.
DITTO, YOU NAILED IT…..
I don’t know if Perry is going to continue to separate himself. The consensus from the pundits is that it was a disaster for him.
Yeah, I think last night was the beginning of the end for Perry. He’s had a surge mostly just due to people not knowing who he is. Now that they see him in action, though, they are realizing that there is not much there.
Which is bad news for Obama, though, as I think between Romney and Perry, Perry is the candidate that Obama would have the easiest time beating.
Perry’s eagerness for more gifts to criminal illegal aliens has doomed him.
And spare me the “don’t punish the spawn” crap. If daddy robs a bank and buys the kid a car, does the bank let the kid keep the car?
Forgot to mention I was referring to Brian g’s comment. I was running from a knife wielding George Bush and forgot to add that part.
I am unimpressed with either of the two supposed GOP front-runners right now, because they both strike me as having that oily ‘used-car’ salesman vibe. That being said, after seeing how incompetent Obama’s handling of a variety of national and international issues has been, I would hold my nose and vote for whomever the parties pick is.
What I would MUCH prefer is for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to finally listen to the multitude of the folks whom have been urging him to run, and throw this current race to medocrity into a tizzy.
He’s far from perfect, but he gets right down to the straight talk when it’s needed and in an age of the blow-dried ‘President in a box’, that is very refreshing.
Watching this makes you loose even more braincells then watching Two and a half men does.
So I heard too and watched them, they were quite entertaining really. I enjoyed the debaccles which do seem to be quite common most of the time. Our gemini c group had a bawl over them. Who will be the nominee, I’m afraid it may be too early to tell at this point but the competition for the republican candiate is definitely tough.
C’mon conservatives and GOP, take a hint. I don’t care who the nominee is be it Rick Perry, Katy Perry or Perry Mason, whoever it is will be cast as racist for “challenging” Obama. I mean THE NERVE to challenge a President. HOW DARE YOU! So lets just not have an election this year because Obama is so smart and SPEAKS SO WELL and our country is on a great path and the stats show it. So no election in 2012. Save your money for 2016. Agreed? Good.
