EXCLUSIVE: Cara Buono, Ally Sheedy and Samantha Futerman are set to co-star opposite Eric Stoltz in Lifetime’s dramedy pilot Modern Love, from Sony Pictures TV. Created and executive produced by Sex and the City alumna Jenny Bicks, the project weaves actual stories from New York Times columns to explore the state of modern relationships. It follows newspaper science editor Simon McElvane (Stoltz) as he faces a deteriorating marriage, the ramifications of potentially starting over and balancing his relationship with his adopted 15-year-old daughter (Futerman). Unexpectedly handed the job of editor of the newspaper’s Modern Love column, Simon discovers he has a lot to learn about life and love. Buono will play the ambitious Styles Editor at Simon’s paper who is torn between her career and her family. Sheedy will play the paper’s ballsy and no-nonsense Assistant Managing Editor. Also cast in the pilot are Alice Ripley in the recurring role of Simon’s wife and Charlie Semine, who will guest star as a NYC fireman. The project is executive produced by Bicks, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun, Gene Stein and Alan Poul. Poul is set to direct the pilot, which will begin filming shortly. Buono is with UTA; Sheedy and Semine are with Innovative.

Great cast but Jenny Bicks isn’t as great as people think. She is very overated and not as talented as she has made people believe. She took her name off of “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” in which she had a huge part of developing. Her film “Wahat a Girl Wants” need I say more okay I will. “Men in Tree’s” was great as a sleeping pill and “The Big C” would be nothing without Laura Liney fighting to make her charector “REAL” Ask around I am not wrong!
Jenny Bicks is one of the most respected and talented ones out there. I don’t need to ask around, I’ve worked with her. Great cast, looking forward to this show.
This post is about a show which seems to be attracting a pretty terrific cast — so why are you attacking Jenny Bicks? Obviously, she must be doing something right, Stan. Her work on “Sex & the City” was superb and I for one loved “Men in Trees.” And I’m pretty sure she had nothing to do with that dreck “Emily’s Reason’s Why Not.” Can’t wait to see Ally and Cara in this, both great actors!
First off, Jenny had nothing to do with Emily Reasons Why Not so if you are going to comment, please know of what you speak. Jenny is not only a talented writer, she is a fantastic show runner – smart, effective, great taste, loves other writers, respects talent and is confident enough in her own skills to let other people shine. She is the rare thing in Hollywood – talented and kind. I’ve been lucky enough to work with her so I would know.
Someone sounds jealous. You mad?
Nice to see Charlie Semine get another role. I thought he was great on Mercy and didn’t make the connection until I looked him up on imdb.
Alice Ripley? I’m soo excited!!
We are so happy for you baby and we love you so very much.

Eric Stoltz and Ally Sheedy starred together in a good telepic a few years back. They have great chemistry. Hope the project’s a go.
Jenny Bicks is my hero. She’s an incredible talent and a wonderful person. Would love to be in her company.
Jenny Bicks is an incredible talent and, from what I’ve read and heard, a solid friend to those close to her in need — no matter how active her impressive career may be at the time. I expect this show, as the others she has collaborated on in the past, will be vibrant and moving. I can’t wait.
