Myriad Pictures has picked up international sales rights for Jennifer Lynch’s psychological thriller Chained. Myriad will show buyers the first footage of the film at the Toronto International Film Festival next week. Chained, starring Vincent D’Onofrio, Julia Ormond and Eamon Farren, centers on a serial killer and an abducted child who begins to follow in the killer’s footsteps. Lynch’s most recent film, Surveillance, grabbed a midnight screening slot at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and was named Best Film at the Sitges horror/fantasy festival. It went on to gain a cult following.

Surveillance has a cult following? Since when? It was a film of Bill Pullman overacting with a poorly written screenplay by Lynch. Chained sounds a lot like Bereavement with better actors. Regardless, I enjoyed D’Onofrio and Ormond together in LOCI so I’ll be watching. If anything, to probably see D’Onofrio over act as a serial killer, but enjoyably so.
She has a way with her filmmaking, and it is her own, I will say that. “Boxing Helena” is now a cult classic, not to mention her incredible best selling book “Secret Diary of Laura Palmer”. While considering the saying “Everything has already been done”, this filmmaker definitely does things that either have not, or does so in a way that is her own, new, and original in delivery. As I have enjoyed all her work thus far, I look forward to seeing what she does with these powerful players. More power to her.
I’ve seen her work and I don’t care what the critics or the haters say: This is one talented lady! Let’s not forget, even Citizen Kane was a critical and box office flop when it first came out. All I can say is that if anything, she’s been ahead of her time. I’m glad to see she’s back at work.
