Oxygen has greenlighted Best Ink, a competition reality series featuring 10 tattoo artists competing for a cash prize. The hourlong project, originally announced as in development at Oxygen’s upfront in April, has received an eight-episode order for a winter premiere. Former American Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell, described as a “tattoo fanatic,” has been tapped as host. Tattoo artist Joe Capobianco will serve as a head judge, joined by model/tattoo-shop owner Sabina Kelley. Bunim/Murray is producing, with Jonathan Murray, Gil Goldschein and Rico Martinez serving as executive producers.

Well, that’s an original idea! They must be trying really hard to keep the ratings down with this sort of pickup and renewing shows like Glee Project. Bring back the Paris Hilton show and you won’t have any viewers!
Wow…unbelievable!!!
Further proof that deleting Oxygen from my cable line-up was the right thing to do.
Hey someone WAS GOING to produce a tattoo competition—-might as well be BMP.
I hear Spike’s will be next.
I would love to see a show about REMOVING tats.
BMP’s shows look like crapola. Why should it be them?
c’mon people. this is “hollywood”. they will make a show about anything. but that doesn’t discount the fact that these contestants are real artists and definitely deserve the glory. they all worked really hard to get where they are, and i’m sure the show was grueling on them. we shouldn’t hate on things we know nothing about yet. most tattoo artists are not the type of people that would want to be on a reality show, so i’m sure most of them did it to get their artwork known to the public. to tattooers, their art is their most important commodity and i’m sure they were just as embarrassed to do this show as some people are to hear about or watch it. but hey, if it helps further their career, then more power to them! i wouldn’t have the balls to get up on the national stage like that.
Hell yeah man!! you are sooooo right….doing a reality show is hard friggin work and the rewards can be well worth it!!! Congrats to all the hard working artists who sacrificed their time and reputations for the love of the art and for showing america what REAL tattoo artists can do!
