Given the intense media coverage of the recent suicide of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star Russell Armstrong, there were high ratings expectations for the Monday season premiere of the Bravo reality series. The second season opener did solid business on a holiday night, drawing 2.2 million viewers. But that was nowhere near a record — it as down 21% from the show’s first season finale. Still, it was up 42% from the series’ debut last year.

Pretty strong numbers because of the holiday weekend and it seemed like a lot of people didn’t even know it was on (guess they pulled promotion).
I was surprised that Bravo did the opener of the Housewives discussing the suicide. Obviously it’s a topic they’d discuss but to schedule a gathering to film it, edit it and air it was pretty distasteful imho. They can’t ignore it and should keep the Taylor/Russell footage in the show in a tasteful way but it did feel like they were capitalizing a bit which I honestly don’t think Bravo normally does.
Yeah, you forgot to mention that Bravo pulled all ads two weeks prior to the premiere. So pretty solid with that, considering. Still a hit for the franchise, and still a hit for the network. New York, which just wrapped and is also considered a hit for the network, only hovered around 1.5 if I am correct.
Get this show off the air.
Before the suicide, this is a frighteningly UNFUN show. Every one of these women, because of their wealth is starting so far behind the eight-ball it’s impossible to like a one of them. Put them on the air, sure…but don’t try to tell me I’m supposed to root for them. These are unrelatable, vapid, evil people with hiddeous values, terrible marriages, horrid sense of entitlement and medicated ad nauseum, the only way they know how to deal with any modicum of humanity. Am I addicted to this horridness, quite possibly…I’m trying like crazy to shake the habit. Get it OFF the air PLEASE.
just change the channel for god’s sake. you don’t have to watch!
Its amazing to me, that 2.2 million people find anything about “fake” in mind and body, dumb, self centered, cougars, with really nothing to say, unless the producers put it in their mouths, even remotely entertaining. I can only imagine the 20 something having sex with her cousin in TX watching the show and dreaming one day, that she can meet her sugar daddy and and move to Beverly Hills and be a on a reality show where she won’t need any of the education she does not have.
do you honestly think that these wealthy women — playing themselves — submit to producers and merely say what the producers want them to say? not so. doesn’t work like that. maybe MTV can get mileage like that out of twinks down in the OC, but rich, established people play by their own rules and don’t think they have to submit to anyone.
yeah, right. These attention whores will do WHATEVER to get more….what? ATTENTION. That is up to and includes saying or doing whatever the producers tell them. If they don’t, and are boring they are replaced.
All aboard the schadenfreude train wreck! Woot! Woot!
BRAVO: being tastefully distasteful. Believe you me, if they had it, or could have done it, they would have shown video of this poor guy swinging, and his wife would have let ‘em. That is if the price was right. I firmly support these sk*nks right to earn their cash however they choose and BRAVO’s right to show it but let’s stop pretending that these shows and the folks on them are anything more than human train wrecks and BRAVO is just trying to get the blood and guts footage. Figuratively of course unless they can figure out a way to get actual blood and guts on TV then they most assuredly will. Nothing more than “Jersey Shore” 20 Years later.
