Netflix “More Humble” Following Botched Price Hike, CFO Tells Investors
Netflix Stock -9.4% As Wall Street Wonders How Low It Can Go
DreamWorks Animation has thrown its support to Netflix, according to The New York Times. The report says Jeffrey Katzenberg’s studio has inked a deal with the DVD and streaming service that could be worth $30 million per film to DWA in the lucrative pay TV window.
The pact kicks off in 2013 and replaces one that gave HBO rights to the animation studio’s films and TV specials. “We are really starting to see a long-term road map of where the industry is headed,” Katzenberg told the newspaper. “This is a game-changing deal.” Um, no, because DWA’s product output is still very minuscule. But Netflix is desperate after losing subscribers because of a price hike and split of its DVD-by-mail and streaming services. Now the company’s once-impervious stock price has been sliding fast. Netflix lost Starz recently. Netflix now needs to fight off challenges from rivals like Dish Network’s new Blockbuster Movie Pass service, Amazon, Walmart and Apple’s iTunes.

So, Kung Fu Panda 2 will be available to stream on Netflix in 2013. Or I can just stream it on Amazon Instant Video (via my Blu-ray player or PC) or On Demand later this year. Which one will I choose? Such a hard decision.
Doesn’t HBO still get KFP2?
what a piece of crap article. so clearly spoon fed by the DWA and NFLX PR people.
I at least hope the NYT was smart enough to get a guarantee ad buy for this piece of ass kisser.
right, b/c the network that airs children’s fare such as “true blood” and “boardwalk empire” wanted to spend money on non-pixar animated films…what a huge “win” for nflx.
If anyone took a beat to dissect the Netflix situation you’d see they’re positioning themselves for a sale to Amazon. Breaking apart DVD/Streaming aspects? It’s so Amazon can avoid taking on physical assets for tax reasons. Amazon is desperate to get into the streaming business and purchasing Netflix’s streaming infrastructure, and the brand name itself, immediately makes them the market leader.
I hope KFP2 will be streaming on Netflix when it’s released to home market.
The Blockbuster Movie Pass that DISH Network is now offering their subscribers is more than what Netflix has ever been able to offer. They’re the only ones able to bring TV, movies, and games into the homes of their subscribers. The beauty of it all is that the value of the Blockbuster Movie Pass far exceeds anything else on the market right now. I work for DISH and since the pass was just released today they’ve had big numbers signing up for this. I wonder how things will fare once the word spreads.
