Former Smallville showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, who guided the long-running drama’s final seasons, have joined the CW’s new genre series The Secret Circle. The gig is consulting, at least for now. The Secret Circle‘s Kevin Williamson, who is co-showrunning the series with Andrew Miller, could use the help — he has two series on the air, Circle and The Vampire Diaries, which he is co-running with Julie Plec. The Secret Circle got off to a good start last Thursday with 3 million viewers, holding on to all of its Vampire Diaries lead-in.

We watched SC last week, but won’t be tuning in again this week. Not my cup of tea. I gave SC a chance since I love TVD and was surprised to love it as much as I did (having hated the books and previously rejected nearly everything on CW), but SC just didn’t pull me in the way TVD did.
Unless a show I start is especially horrible and/or preaches left leaning politics to me right from the beginning, I force myself to watch four episodes before I give up on it. I just feel that it usually takes everyone involved at least that long to find their rhythm and indicate to me what I can expect to see each week. If I didn’t follow that rule, I would have given up on The Vampire Diaries right away. It absolutely did not pull me in until about the forth episode and felt way too much like Twilight. The Secret Circle was definitely not the worst pilot I’ve seen this year. While it hasn’t completely sucked me in yet, I will continue to tune in and see where it all goes and so far am more impressed than I was with TVD at the start.
Kelly and Brian are absolute pros and will make a great addition to SC. Hope it’s more than just temporary.
Let’s hope they have as much success with The Secret Circle as they did with Smallville. That went for 10 seasons I believe….
