Regis Philbin said today during the season premiere of his syndicated morning talk show Live With Regis and Kelly that his last day on the Disney-ABC program will be Nov. 18. The 80-year-old had announced back in January that his was retiring from Live after 28 years. As for his replacement, producer Michael Gelman said during the show this morning that there is no short list of candidates, and a guest-host rotation will continue until a permanent host is found.
– ABC today revealed that Katie Couric’s first news assignment at her new home will air tonight on Nightline, when the former CBS News anchor interviews Sarah Jessica Parker ahead of the actress’ upcoming feature I Don’t Know How She Does It. Sure, these are the types of guests Couric will nab for her upcoming ABC talk show, but it’s a curious debut for her owing to her much-publicized negotiations with potential suitors that centered on her insisting she stay close to hard news, like covering the 2012 presidential elections.
– Anderson Cooper’s new daily talk show has set its first guests for its premiere Sept. 12: The family of Amy Winehouse. The host of the Telepictures Prods strip confirmed the news on his Twitter feed today: “On @anderson Sept. 12: Amy Winehouse’s family — her dad, mom, stepmom, boyfriend — speak for the 1st time since her death.” Also slated as guests for Cooper’s first week are Kathy Griffin, Snooki, Daniel Radcliffe and the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills sans Taylor Armstrong.

Impossible to believe that ABC has had almost a year’s warning that Regis was leaving and hasn’t put together a shortlist of replacements. Are we honestly supposed to believe that? Seriously? They ought to do everyone a favor and cancel the show because whenever Regis (who I can’t stand with his high pitched little Oompa Loompa voice and fake tan) is gone, the ratings hit the fan.
The last time they did an on-air host search for this show, 11 years ago when Kathie Lee Gifford left, the ratings went up.
Regis is and always has been fantastic, a true charming presence, a man who can make you both laugh and smile, who can carry a conversation and be the voice for your morning. He’ll be missed!
Anderson… why is he doing this? And he spends a lot of his show, whenever someone like SNOOKI comes up, bashing ‘em. I don’t get why he is doing this show.
And Couric was never hard-hitting, she just tried to convince herself she was. Though I’m glad she is the one who helped spotlight what a fool Palin was/is.
Sarah Jessica Parker is hard news??? What a joke…and on a movie that having been screened…the audience walked out?? She doesn’t open a film…and please…no one replaces Regis…we so hope that Mark, that ” I live off of Kelly’s paychecks and can’t act my way out of a burning building or a Lifetime Movie” isn’t being considered. How many times can she push him down people’s throats. Leaving her long time agent who made her what she is…for CAA…who promised this leach an Oscar?? How far do you go to save your marriage kelly….if that’s what you call it.
Another show should get Regis, he doesn’t look 80 years old at all in person. He looks 50 years old only, and happy, and as nice of a person as can be. He’s truly a gentleman, charismatic, personable, kind, thoughtful, decent good man all around. He’s quite charming….another net work should snatch him up!
He can still go for another 30 years! I just spoke to him today! He looks great and in great spirit! He’s a class act!
Sarah Jessica Parker? Seriously! Katie Couric is a joke!
I certainly hope ABC did not shell out a lot of money to bring her aboard or it’ll be CBS all over again. I can’t see Couric lasting at ABC with these puff-piece assignments too long.
Regis makes it all look so easy….a true professional. He will be missed.
