TV Land has acquired broadcast rights to The Dick Van Dyke Show. The sitcom will premiere on Oct. 3, exactly 50 years after it debuted on CBS. TV Land is marking its anniversary by running episodes in a three-hour block from 6-9 PM Oct. 3-7, and giving it the marathon treatment the following weekend. After that, its regular spot will be weekdays at 7 PM. Starring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, the classic workplace comedy created by Carl Reiner ran for 5 seasons, from 1961-66. All 159 episodes of the series are also currently available on Hulu.

Yay! Finally a cable net brings this show back full time. Nicely done, TV Land.
I wonder how many working comedy writers were inspired by this show as kids. An amazing sitcom, one of the best in the history of the medium.
It would be fantastic if TV Land started airing TV shows from the 40s – 70s like Nick & Nite used to do. That’s where I discovered The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Patty Duke Show, The Bob Newhart Show and countless other classic sitcoms as a kid.
If Nick & Nite is only going to air 80s and 90s shows now, TV Land should differentiate themselves with older fare.
That’s great news now how about we bring back THe Honeymooners and or Sgt Bilco the old shows are the best!!!!
Hey ME TV if you get that channel been showing Dick Van Dyke show back to back with Mary Tyler Moore
Carl Reiner is a genius.
Van Dyke and Reiner are appearing this Saturday at the Egyptian for a 50 year retrospective of the show. Can’t wait.
All episodes are also available on netflix if you can’t wait.
Just a great show all around!
Timeless, classic, sophisticated comedy. Didn’t TV Land have it before?
It’s too bad it wasn’t shot in color – I think it would have had a longer life in syndication.
The show had a VERY Long life in Syndication, and was still seen on cable outlets into the late 1990′s.
I think TV Land owns Bob Newhart Show. That is such a classic, what a shame they choose other shows instead.(cough cough The Nanny-or Everybody Loves Raymond) TV Land is weird, I don’t even think they had a special Brady Bunch marathon when Sherwood Schwartz died.
I like TV Land but I wish they’d get back to their roots….showing the TRUE classics, and occasionally they would show notorious bombs, which was always fun to watch since they weren’t shown in years (anyone remember the god-awful Ferris Bueller series? They aired it!) Hey TV Land…..more classics, less Hot In Cleveland and original series. And keep showing the flops! They rule!
Yes, I remember when Friends was at the height of its success they aired episodes of all these bomb shows that the cast members appeared in before they became famous. Jennifer Aniston was in Ferris so they showed that. It was really really bizarre and very interesting. It would be pretty cool to have a network devoted exclusively to airing flop TV shows. Where else would you see them? I would love to see Viva Laughlin again so I can have a good chuckle.
What makes this news frustrating is knowing TV Land will continue to butcher the 25-minute episodes down to 21 minutes. That seems to be the channel’s pattern for half hours.
Yes, they are notorious for slicing out the most popular segments of classic shows – including scenes that won the stars EMMYS. When they carried “MTM”, it was horrible. They cut the VEAL PRINCE ORLOFF scene, for @#*@’s sake!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have ME-TV and it’s an awesome channel and yes, they still air the Dick Van Dyke Show locally at 7:30 PM
I’m also a Chicagoan and a fan of METV and sister station METOO. Hard to get excited over TV Land getting Dick Van Dyke when METV has had it for years. A solid oldies line-up of the type that TV Land and Nick and Nite should be running. One of the good things about living in Chicago.
And none, NONE of the actors will receive residuals for their performances, thanks to SAG U4S “negotiators”, current SAG members and Tom Hanks, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Ken Howard, Sally Field, Amy Aquino, Arye Gross, etc. ALL of these people chose to publicly screw over their fellow actors and agree to no more TV residuals before ’73. And they did it to get what? To get nothing (except to keep their millions of dollars (in most cases) coming). No increase in salary or benefits, just “play ball to keep the money train running”. For them.
Producers will make another fortune for this sale; actors, still living (barely) on celery, ramen and .99 cent loaves of bread, will make absolutely nothing. This would be shameful, if the AMPTP had any.
I’m sure these still-living actors are thanking you, SAG “union” members, for treating their potential income like your weekly coffee allowance. Karma, babe. Karma…
At long last, a classic tv sitcom to enjoy that serves as a reminder of how good the tube can really be.
Understand why 28M and 20M viewers watch Two and a Half Men, but will it be remembered in history outside of the antics of Charlie Sheen (though it will make a lot of money for the showrunneres)
Agree with you Ace. A shame and a sham – thanks to Ned Vaughn and his ilk. Sad. Bob Denver (Gilligan’s Island) died penniless and Sherwood Schwartz (Producer of Gilligan’s Island) died a very wealthy man. When Alan Rosenberg (SAG President) tried to get the Actors of these shows some long over due residuals for them now playing on the internet — he was shut down by the current regime. They stated that because the Actors never got residuals in the first place, why should they be entitled to them now. Crazy – makes me sick to my stomach to see some punk wannabe, have no respect for Iconic Television Actors – who the majority of had a hard time getting work after a show had been in syndication and they were Typecast.
So yeah – it’s fun to have these Iconic show at our finger tips. But sad that the Actors of these shows are not fairly compensated.
TV Land doesn’t own old shows. It just licenses them. And shows are edited to 21 minutes for syndication no matter where they air.
I totally agree. Hate their new series. I always thought it was a great place to go watch the classics. I like Everybody Loves Raymond as much as the next guy but I can catch that on multiple stations. And I would much rather watch Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli on Mary tyler
Arrrg. Marathons everywhere. What did TV Land do, contract their scheduling out to BBC America???
Um, uh, where were you back in the 1990s? These older programs were the bread and Twip™ of the network back then through the early 00s.
You mean Valerie Harper right? The other Valerie is on tv land too but not on mtms
Yea! Finally, the Dick Van Dyke show back for all ages to see and enjoy. This show is a classic in the true sense of the word. Whenever my daughter talks about a nerdy guy, I call him a “Herman Glimpsher.”
I am all for bringing back older shows- How about Petticoat Junction, Gilligans Island and what happened to Andy Griffith.
Greaaaaaaaaaaaat! Good job! How about bringing back My Mother the Car, Ozzie and Harriet and some of the other GREAT old shows! Love it.
I agree with those comments above. 1st Dick Van Dyke is one of the best shows EVER. I also agree that TV Land should get back to the roots. The Honeymooners, Bachalor Father, Topper, The Life of Riley, too many to name. I would gladly dump all my DVR shows to watch those old ones.
