When did Dustin Hoffman die?
He didn’t. This series was originally titled RAIN MAN: From Number Counting to Horse Racing.
No. Quite alive. Enjoyed a little Broadway act (song and dance duet), that was not filmed, where He seemed quite alive and very personable. Gary.
Looks good. But I’m more interested in hearing about Mann v. Milch during production. Godzilla v. Mothra, as the HR rightly had it.
Intense. Impressive. Extremely well cut teaser trailer.
Horses, Hoffman, money, we knew all that before clicking play. The trailer “teased” nothing, except that Hoffman’s character is coming back from jail. Who was he before jail? Who is he now? What are any of the human relationships in this series?
Not “impressive,” at all. In fact the opposite, it makes no impression, only reminds the viewer, “Hoffman, horses, coming soon.”
The point is to tantalize us, not sell a story. The trailer is most impressive for making the world of horse racing palatable to viewers bored by all things horses after this year’s ‘Secretariat’ and “The Cup.’ I had zero interest in such a story – human relationships or otherwise – until this simple, well-executed tease, conveying here is a community’s dark underbelly which is the type of story HBO does best. Extremely well cut teaser trailer.
Would You like to get paid for this advice?
I agree that “back story” info is important;however, not in the First season. Look at a “very” successful series like “24″, and see how “flash back” type info is used to “TIE” it all together. Gary.
Hey, what do I know; I grew up in the CARTOON business–My Dad was the Cartoonist, not Me.
All your questions? That’s why they call it a tease…
Saw the pilot.. so-so… hopefully will develop better once the season starts to progress but Mann’s directing and Milch’s writing don’t seem to gel that well.
You saw an early cut. The pilot hasn’t been handed into HBO yet. Actors were going in to do post as late as last week.
What’s the hook to this? That two old actors are in it? Love them both and the creative team but, a couple neon signs with the word Luck on them doesn’t a teaser make. Put it on Friday or Saturday night, there’s a few million people in their 50 and 60s who stay home who are looking for something more than BLUE BLOODS.
Oh please people, it’s TEASER. You’re all so f-in’ nitpicky. And “Dissent”, seriously? You want all that info in a teaser? Dude, go to the website and read up on it if you’re so concerned with all the details. Google it, mother f-ker.
Even this short few seconds cut together rapidly looks better than 98% of what’s on TV already so quit with your hating, you bunch of tv nerd boys.
I was teased. I will turn in. Gimme some Luck.
And no, I don’t work for anyone involved in the production…. I just like good TV in the rare instances it comes along.
Hbo is really getting old.
If you want Gossip Girl tune in to the CW. Oh, or maybe you prefer Hawaii 5-0. Those are both “young” and oh so well written! I’m sure Leighton Meister’s school girl character is far more compelling than Dustin Hoffman’s ex-con, gambling addict.
HBO is a bit more concerned with making good product and getting subscribers and that usually means an older audience than those who turn in for The Vampire Diaries.
Are they going to follow the horses to the slaughterhouse after they are no longer viable (sold off for meat)…reveal the true dark story of horse racing…??
HBO did a piece on “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel” that revealed the rampant slaughter of thoroughbred race horses.
It is dark, but not for the reasons most people think.
this looks better than anything they have, including that boring as death Boardwalk Empire. im excited for this one. finally.
Well, I think it looks COOL! You all should be more respectful of the talents of Michael Mann and David Milch. They are iconic artists, I’m sure they will deliver something very special to HBO…move over Boardwalk Empire.
What I don’t understand is– Where’s Milch’s name? From the Creator of Deadwood and NYPD Blue? Has HBO gotten so movie centric that they’ve forgotten that Milch is a Titan of storytelling?
This trailer looks incredibly interesting and bent. Milch is brilliant and Mann directs magnificent performances from his actors.
I cannot wait to see this even if it does take time and build and get better. This is a must see series and HBO needs more event television like this.
Teaser schmeaser, everyone forgets, so soon afterwards, but let me remind you, this is coming from the creator, and network that screwed us to death on Deadwood by cutting it exactly 1 season short, 1 lousy season. So don’t expect much here but a half hearted “worn out by season 1′s end” effort. I hope everyone remembers how HBO and Milch treated their loyal viewers by dumping Deadwood in the can to try out other cheaper series that barely lasted 1 season.
I enjoyed Deadwood to the point where I bought the series complete. I hope They learned their lesson as i tend to agree that it ended all too soon. Gary.
Great idea for a series—regular racing/ following “bloodlines” etc. and the KICKER of the occasional “BOAT” Race. Great!! There is many areas into which this series can enter. I look forward to “The Bag Man” connection—dumping of BIG money just prior to “post time”". Gary.
