ABC News and Yahoo today announced they are partnering online to “enhance and transform the delivery of news and information across the digital landscape.” It will make ABC News-produced content available on Yahoo News. The alliance launches today with the debut of GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo and three new, online-first video series with ABC News anchors and correspondents. Newsmakers, an original interview series, kicks off today when Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos interviews President Barack Obama live at the White House at 2:35 PM ET. The interview will stream live on Yahoo.com and ABCNews.com. Also slated to do online-first interviews in Newsmakers are ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour and Robin Roberts. The other two original online programs are Around The World With Christiane Amanpour and This Could Be Big. Additional programs will be added in 2012. Under the agreement, the news organizations will share content, co-produce coverage of some news events and have “integrated bureaus” in New York, Washington and Los Angeles. ABC News has been provider of video content to Yahoo since 2006. The move is expected to add some bandwidth to ABC News’ presence online, which has bee lagging behind other TV news organizations, and is designed to give troubled Internet giant Yahoo a shot in the arm.

Launch day ballyhoo OK, but the actual practical cross-platform delivery dynamic will be another thing altogether. As Microsoft and NBC News found out, these things are extremely difficult. If it takes, which I doubt, it’ll be interesting to see if the Yahoo news brand survives.
Quite a talent roster on GMA this morning to thump the tub for this deal. Pretty much all of ABC News was there. Fun to see Katie Couric relegated to being a barely acknowledged face in the high-wattage crowd.
That sure is interesting and at first I thought that this is quite a good idea and quite a brave choice to try something new. But then I saw the comment by TomF- I didn’t think about it at first that this might cause problems to the Yahoo news brand. Hopefully not, as I enjoy reading yahoo news, I guess we will see soon.
Yahoo announced the liaison today on their home page and demonstrated their heightened news-gathering ability with such important headlines as “Students punished for saying ‘bless you,’” “Dognappers spark deadly violence,” “Where to live like the wealthy” and, of course, the latest Amanda Knox update. Yup, Yahoo and ABC really know what’s important so their subscriber base can survive in today’s challenging world.
Is ABC the reason there are no more comments on Yahoo News articles?
