LOS ANGELES, CA – Millennium Films, Corsan Pictures and FilmEngine will begin production January 16 on “Killing Season,” starring Robert De Niro and John Travolta. Mark Steven Johnson (“Ghost Rider,” “Daredevil”) will direct from a script by Evan Daugherty (“Snow White and the Huntsman”).
“Killing Season” is an action movie set in the Appalachian Mountains about an American military veteran (De Niro) who has retreated to a remote cabin in the woods. When a rare visitor, a European tourist (Travolta), appears on the scene, the two men strike up an unlikely friendship. But in fact the visitor is a former Serbian soldier bent on revenge. What follows is a tense, action packed battle across some of America’s most forbidding landscape that proves the old adage: the purest form of war is one-on-one.
Nu Image/Millennium is taking the lead on international sales at the American Film Market this week, in consultation with Corsan. For FilmEngine, Anthony Rhulen is producing and Jake Wagner is exec producer.
“I’ve loved this project from the moment I read Evan Daughterty’s remarkable script,” said Corsan CEO Paul Breuls. “It’s thrilling, imaginative, unexpected and dominated by two extraordinary characters on a collision course. I’m very pleased this film is moving into production and to be partnered with Avi Lerner and his team at Millennium.”
“We’re excited to be co-financing and co-producing this film with Corsan, and to be working again with Robert De Niro and John Travolta,” said Nu Image/Millennium topper Avi Lerner. “We’ve never seen these two great actors on screen together before, and we’re excited to see what comes of the combination.”

Two very old washed up guys chasing each other through the woods? Lame. How does it end DeNiro has a heart attack? Or does Travolta find a young mountain boy and settle down?
Fantastic comment, thank you! If they actually used your suggestions the movie might be worth watching.
U r funny
It ends with two men sharing a very human moment. Something you’re not likely to get in a million years.
Cant DeNiro just go away already? Did he really not put any money away?
He is Robert De Niro…did u forget he is one of the best actors of all time? Go watch rel movies, not 300
These former 20 million dollar actors are getting really desperate for cash.
jet fuel ain’t cheap
John Travolta as a European? no.
And a Serbian no less.
Talk about poor casting.
Congrats, MSJ. This sounds very very cool.
Curious how Avi Lerner put this together. Must be $$?
This is how:
“I will not make something for the sake of art — I refuse to do it.” He insists that his company earn a profit on every movie BEFORE it’s released by selling off the distribution rights for more than the cost of production. –LA TIMES 2010
Basically, he’s a shameless profiteer who doesn’t give a rat shit about filmmaking just the money. That’s why all his “films” are RFR (ready-for-Redbox).
and how about that awful hair of his? His accounting is very confusing but even Morgan Freeman fell for his bate . why work for Avi ???
I’m guessing this is Evan’s Shrapnel script with a new title.
The original script– before it got into Avi’s hands– was called SHRAPNEL.
It took place in the 70s, with a WWII vet and a mysterious European (that ended up being an SS soldier) seeking vengeance.
John McTiernan was attached to direct and I was hoping Bruce Willis would play the ex-US soldier.
Now they’ve changed the title, Avi’s producing, DeNiro and Travolta starring, and it’s been updated…
From a great script to a KILLER ELITE’esque Avi Lerner Production.
Sigh…
Should we tell them the war’s over?
Sounds like a modern take on Death Hunt with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin.
$10 million for each actor? Is that what they get? Will be cool to see Travolta and DeNiro on the same screen, regardless.
More like 2 each. Or 1 these days.
Millennium often acquires good or decent scripts and then turn them into turds. They then offer the bucks to actors to attract a “name”… and then flush.
brian…did you hit the nail on the head!…This IS the “Schrapnel” script that was SUPPOSED to be directed by over the hill and real pain in the ass..John Mc Tiernan who made a COMPLETE fool of the so-called producers who SWORE Travolta was attached and ran all over the country raising money trying desperately to make it work. Did he take them for a ride.Industry people were sadly laughing at them. Can’t
believe they could be that stupid. Mc Tiernan’s career is over and has been for a long time.
Sounds a little like the Josh Zetumer Black List script from a few years back….VILLAIN.
I don’t think Travolta and DeNiro get that much anymore. Anybody?
Nah. Probably in the $5 -7 range.
Death and the Maiden Meets Rambo’s Killer Elite.
Travolta as a European? Maybe it will work…he can’t play anything else….
Sounds like Evan has been watching “Duel in the Pacific” to me…
This sounds kind of awesome actually. Duel in the Pacific, good reference, haven’t thought about that film in ages.
As long as its not based on anything else I’ll take it! Please stop making those god awful Marvel films.
Millennium = studio for actors that need quick $$$. De Niro could have stayed at WME for this schlock. Lieberman, line up something worthy of Bob.
Yes, DeNiro is desparate for bucks, sure. Maybe you heard of the Fockers franchise? Homie got paid. Just saying.
The love scenes should be steamy.
De Niro really needs to retire or at least learn to say no once in a while. His female equivalent Meryl Streep continues to do quality projects but De Niro has turned into a total hack who’s all about the money and obviously has zero interest in quality. The guy must be broke to keep saying yes to all the garbage he does. And everyone knows anything Avi Lerner pushes out is crap.
Maybe they’ll shoot it in 3-D…
Wow. I can’t believe the negativity and vitriol in these posts. First off, there are very few independent FINANCING companies making films based on original material, be it a script written 10 years ago or yesterday who cares. So, I agree with the poster who says at least it’s not a remake/reboot of something else (every movie has some influence or another from the past)DeNiro and Travolta have made sketchy choices recently but it’s a little soon to be predicting such negative results if the script is as good as some say.
And it’s good for people (like below-the-liners) who get work from this ‘crap’ sheesh Lighten up people.
Robert DeNiro hasn’t delivered a good performance or made a good film in twelve years. Fact. Meet the Parents was quality, never mind the sequels.
That cinematic icon has made so much crap, that now when I read he’s in a movie, I sigh and say to myself “It’ll probably suck”.
I mean, seriously, look at his imdb page for the past twelve years. Come on man! WTF?
