EXCLUSIVE: Actress-comedian Aisha Tyler is joining The Talk as a new co-host. Tyler, who previously guest hosted the CBS daytime talk show for a week, starts tomorrow when she will take a spot around the table alongside Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. Along with Underwood, Tyler is the second new co-host tapped for the talk show following the recent departure of Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete. For the past 2 months, The Talk employed a number of recurring guest hosts, including Kris Jenner and Molly Shannon, as Osbourne too is taking some time off this fall.
Tyler, who became the first black actor to land a major role on NBC’s megahit Friends, has talk show hosting experience. In addition to guest hosting The Talk, she was also one of several guest hosts on CBS’ Late Late Show in the transitional period between Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson. Tyler also did a stint as host of E!’s Talk Soup, and in 2009, she shot a pilot for her own talk show with ABC. Additionally, this past summer Tyler launched the talk show podcast Girl on Guy. Tyler has a long history at CBS. She toplined her own comedy pilot in 2005, co-starred on the network’s drama series Ghost Whisperer and in the 2010 comedy pilot Open Books. Additionally, Tyler, repped by UTA and ROAR, continues to do comedy tours and voices one of the leads on FX’s animated comedy Archer.

Don’t know how to take this news. I love this woman but the show is awful. Good luck, Aisha. Maybe you can make it better.
She’s fantastic. Beautiful, funny, smart as hell. She should be a star.
This show is a train wreck. I guess the ratings are stable but I quit watching. Don’t know why they dropped Holly & Leah (Unless it was Mrs Moonves’ problem)…It was insulting to viewers that they never mentioned it at all. I cannot stand Sheryl Underwood. She’s so annoying, inappropriate and tries too hard. Aisha doesnt seem to fit either. The only thing I can say is they’re even copying The View once again with 2 African American co-hosts. Really? Do something original. Its just a boring panel. Its got to be one of the worst produced shows. Last time I watched , it was unbearable.
Give her her own show on playboy.tv
meow!
I think The Talk made a great move by firing “know it all” Holly and “nothing to add” but stupid looks Leah. I love Sheryl Underwood but Aisha whoever, is worse than Holly. She tries to push her opinion too much. No matter the topic she has had it happen to her or knows a story about someone who has had it happen. Tries to overshadow the rest of the hosts. I personally like they are not trying to be The View – that is one show I can not stand and will never watch again!!
Good Lucky Aisha Tyler
She’s so lovely and talented.
Julie Chen is going hang her out to dry in a matter of months.
Does she realize what a toxic show this is?
I would just love to see Aisha heading a great comedy.
The Talk is not for me. I’ll continue to at least be able to listen to Aisha on Archer on FX.
I don’t think actors should do projects like this. The less I know about an actor the easier it is for me to believe them as characters. Conversely the more I know about actors (and you find out a lot about someone when they host a talk show) the harder it is for me to suspend my sense of disbelief.
Hey anyone is better than Holly and Leah. Heard they were AWFUL to work with and the producers hated them. Good luck Aisha!
you should speak what you know…not what you hear (or heard). They are both beautiful women who related to allkinds of people. They were GREAT!
I DO know. I’ve worked in the business for 20 years, and heard from reliable sources ON THEIR SET, that they were awful. It doesn’t matter what fans think, if your attitude backstage sucks and you treat people badly, word travels and you’ll be fired. Simple as that. But good for Aisha, she seems great.
Leah Remini and Holly Robinson-Peete rock. Maybe your sources are tainted. Maybe their attitudes suck and they’re the ones who are horrible to work with. Hmmmm…
Can you read? I just said that it doesn’t matter what fans think. You may think they’re funny and amazing on air. And truthfully, they did have a spark together. BUT… they were not team players, they were rude to their producers, and no one wanted to work with them. Period.
Maybe get your story straight. Something’s fishy. First you claim you heard from a source; now you claim to BE the source. Interesting you use the same phrases like “not team players”, which my sources say are the same words Julie Chen Moonves used for justifying why she fired those poor early show hosts. Look – your position is obvious. I know you are sitting in your miserable office over there on radford, hoping your job will last until the end of the week, trying to impress the true dictator, your boss, Julie, who truly is NOT a team player. She is obeyed, or you are put in the “Julie Freezer”. The producers there have no power to fire anyone. They know it and you know it. Julie Moonves is the only one there who has the power. Even the “executives” over there are running scared. Holly and Leah might have ridden the producers to do a better job, and sure, my sources say, they were occaisionally passionate in their views, but no one can say they weren’t team players. THEY CARED. And no, they were not fired by these producer. They were fired by Julie, as many others were as well, my sources say. They fought for a better show – not a rip off of The View, which is what you have there. That is why you all sit around watching The View in your rooms before you tape, sources say. Good try though. Plant.
I have nothing against the new hosts. They know not what they are stepping into but to insult the viewers again by pretending that the problem was Holly and Leah only indicates that you are a plant.
It was Julie who had Holly and Leah fired as she did with the Early show hosts when she was there.
Leah and Holly were nightmares? Obviously, you are drinking the Julie Kool-Aid because people who were there (like me) and don’t care about kissing the real CEO of CBS Julie Chens ass, know that Leah & Holly cared about the show and the content they were bringing to the Viewers. They fought to make a mediocre show better. They did not want to ask their fans to believe in a show that didn’t care about what they put out. And it is in fact JULIE who is and has been running the show from behind the scenes. Julie is the one who hires and fires every single person in front of the cameras and behind the cameras. Poor Brad Bessey (EP) was told never to give her notes because she reminded him “My name is Julie Moonves”. Oh, but wait, Julie doesn’t talk like that. Well, I have heard it. Susan Winston(EP) gave her a piece of her mind too, where is she? Not on The Talk. And anyone who dare to challenge the “The Chenbot” gets put in the “Julie Freezer” as she gleefully calls it. Tom Foreman, Brad Bessey, Susan Winston, The President of Daytime of CBS, Early show hosts, Holly and Leah,… all gone. Hmmmm…
This show has always been a front for the inevitable show that will be “Julie & Friends”. Look out folks at 60 Minutes, she is coming for that job too.
Julie is the true nightmare there and you know it… Good try though, Plant. You too will be out of a job soon.
The show is like paint drying now. It has no soul. And like all shows of late it will slowly go away…..funny thing is, when you are out of a job and waiting for the chenbot to call you to work on 60 minutes and she never calls, you’ll see how that loyalty really pays off! Leah and Holly were great hosts and they were a great deal of why it was so unique. But hey……..keep reaching for the middle!!!
Plant
Holly and Leah were the heart and soul of The Talk! The show use to be fresh and vibrant with them on it, but now it’s very stale.
The producers on that show were fired twice. The collective IQ of all the hosts combined comes in well under 200. The show is just pure trailer trash and doesn’t aim for anything more than that. Aisha Tyler is too smart and beautiful to belong to this group of low lifes.
Leah Remini is deeply obnoxious. Julie Chen hired her. It’s not her fault that these lousy producers don’t know how to make a show. Everyone on that show is walking a tight rope because of Chen.
Tyler should be careful because Julie Chen will have her fired in a heartbeat if she shows how smart she is. Chen lives a privileged life under a rock with a nannies and a staff to do everything and a husband who can make sure she gets what she wants professionally. It’s all reflected in the low level of conversation on that show.
Holly Robinson is smart and beautiful as well. She went to a prestigious school and speaks 3 languages fluently.
Listen……there are a LOT of pissed off previous viewers that set our DVR’s to that show and thoroughly enjoyed them. To end things in the fashion they chose…without explanation, was totally uncalled for. Truth be told, the 2 that are in the power position happened to be the 2 that would be missed the least. I like them all together, but that is a something that rarely comes along…..and it appears that Julie’s ego was too big for that. Glad Holly and Leah have moved on and I can enjoy them in other areas…..but The Talk……bye bye!
She’ll bring a ton of class to that show. Aisha is one smart hip lady. She’s also a fox!
Gorgeous, hilarious, brilliant.
She deserves her own series instead of being 8th banana on some dead in the water vanity project of the boss’ trophy wife.
Good on Aisha. I like her, and she could bring some spark that the guest co-hosts sadly lacked. Bring back Camryn Manheim to co-host with Tyler, and we could have a nice “Ghost Whisperer” reunion.
I love Aisha but is the big gal who looks like Wesley Snipes drag character from To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar a regular? She really adds nothing to the show.
I don’t get your comparison since one is man and Aisha is a beautiful woman who could easily model and do runway. Your trollish bigotry will come back at you one day.
I think Kevin was talking about Sheryl Underwood not Aisha Tyler. Sheryl does indeed make the show even more unwatchable. She’s incredibly loud and unfunny.
He’s talking about Sheryl Underwood (being a regular), who has on many occasions said that she in fact “looks like Wesley Snipes in drag.” Don’t see bigotry at all.
Ok Kevin, very sorry about the tone of my post! I did not know there was another woman who actually referred to herself as Wesley Snipes. That’s really unfortunate and weird for her to say such a thing about herself.
SPLOOSH!
As loong as it doesn’t interfere with her doing Archer, I wish her good luck.
THANK GOD they they hired a respectable educated beautiful black woman. I was beginning to think that hollywood had it in with its portrayal of negative black women. Moonves gets a gold star
I forgot to mention that I will miss her on the Stephanie Miller show on Tuesdays with Tyler
I forgot to mention that I will miss her on the Stephanie Miller show on Tuesdays with Tyler
Beautiful, intelligent, hilarious, actress, comedienne! I loved her when she hosted Talk Soup! She’ll be a smart, politically savvy addition to the show.
These shows are worthless but she’s awesome. Great on Archer, she’ll elevate this show right up until the queen bee gets her fired.
Aisha Tyler is very funny and talented, but she’s way too good for this crapfest of a talk show. She should be trying out for more comedy work instead.
Aisha is one of the most versatile, attractive, intelligent women on tv, period. She will be great…..she can act, she’s great at standup, she’s brilliant and comes across with a warmth that has, so far, largely, eluded that show. Good call, CBS.
Oy, I might have to watch now. Didn’t she also do movie reviews on Siskel & Ebert?
I like Aisha Tyler and think she will be a great addition. I like the show, and I think she had great chemistry during her guest host stint. I don’t get the hate for this show and Chen. If people want to get mad at someone for Remeni and Peete getting the boot, why do you direct your hate at Gilbert who is the creator and co-executive producer. Chen is not a producer and just because her husband runs the network does not mean she can fire someone. That is just ridiculous to direct hate towards Chen rather than the producers. And all these people that keep crying that the fans deserve an explanation for the cast changes, please tell me one show that has come on air and explained cast changes. I have never seen that done before. It’s part of the business and people are freaking out like The Talk is the first show to ever make a change. Please!
To quote Jesus Quintana, this is post is:
“Laughable, man!”
Julie is the only one on that show that can’t be fired.
I’d like to have some of what your smoking. Julie doesn’t have any say so? Please.
I mean, “The View” would be an obvious example. Several times.
Let’s see… “Live with Regis [and whomever]“. That’s kinda easy, too.
“Roseanne” made fun of the Becky changes, so I’ll count that kinda tongue-in-cheek.
“The Tonight Show” cast changes were pretty well covered.
“8 Simple Rules”, but that was kind of necessary. Bummer.
That’s enough. You only asked for one, anyway.
Sara is a silent producer so to speak word directly from the set! Julie Chen-Moonves runs the show
Okay……this last post had to be Julie Chen’s mother or father. Like the public doesn’t have a right to complain. Like Sara Gilbert has total authority and Julie Chen has no say…..Go away!!
Have had a crush on her since “Talk Soup” and I’m gay. That says something. Go Aisha!!!
Wow. When I was at ABC we did pilot with Aisha and she was great, too bad we didn’t pick it up for daytime. Aisha is smart, and can carry a show plus she us great looking too.
Good luck Aisha.
Nancy
Aisha probably would have done better for ABC than The Chew.
Julie Chen is a dolt but smart enough to have dumped Susan Winston
within a week of coming to produce the show.
Aisha is high school funny, pretty and has that same desperate energy
that Ali Wentworth exhibited on OPRAH. Good luck on the Titanic,
keep the lifeboat close.
Aisha will add something to the venture.
Wow! What a sad bit of news.
Tyler is on two great spy shows [spy spoof 'Archer' and Canadian Bourne riff 'XIII' - and may I just note that she is even hotter in the flesh than her character on Archer] and is a popular stand-up comic, so I have no idea why she’d want to be connected with the abysmal ‘The Talk’ – especially after all the bad press its gotten over the dumping of two popular co-hosts.
They must have offered her stupid money and time off for all the other stuff she does – plus full benefits…
CBS likes her. She did a pilot with them two years ago called “Open Books.” Also, people have criticized CBS for firing an attractive black woman and replacing her with Sheryl Underwood. They kill two birds with one stone. Get someone with personality, who’s attractive and probably won’t upstage Chen-Moonves.
Hmm, another leftist hack on ‘The Talk’? Oh well, nobody cares. She must be really desperate.
Boy, I for one enjoy the Talk, and especially because of Leah Remini, I find her refreshing. Yes, she is sarcastic and funny but she is also honest. But all this is news to me, I haven’t watched it a while mostly because I usually have Turner Classic Movies on. However, I for one do think we do deserve an explanation as to why people are no longer going to be co-hosting the show.
I don’t think that I will be as interested in the talk now that Leah is not on.
I really want to know why?
“The View”.
By the way I think that the ladies on the “Talk” give each other a chance to speak rather than talking all over each other the way they do on the “View”.
The View always seems to be full of strong opinions about certain issues, yet when they have the opportunity to address those in question on their show, they get soft and no one really has the nerve to say or ask the questions that you might be wanting the hosts to talk about and really stand behind their opinions.
Apparently you cared enough to comment on this article about her. Seems pretty desperate to me. Also, dismissing someone simply based on the fact that they may have different political views than you just shows how narrow-minded you are.
LOL *YOU* cared enough to comment. You probably watch The Talk, too. Typical right-wing hypocrite. Kill yourself.
Go away, dude.
I’ve worked with Aisha before and she is a total nightmare and has a HUGE ego…really can’t see her blending in well in any ‘team’ or ‘group hosting’ type of setting…Julie Chen is going to school her so bad.
Dude. You KNOW that is not true. I’ve worked with her and with others who have and have never experienced or heard anyone else relate anything but professionalsm and an almost ingenuous kindness from Aisha. Save your lame rumormongering for someone who deserves it.
This show will continue to be a trainwreck as long as the ChenBot is running the show. Bring back Guiding Light and As the World Turns!
