Last night’s Season 4 finale of AMC’s Breaking Bad drew 1.9 million viewers in its original airing. That was up 19% from the series’ third-season finale last year. For the night, including encores, Breaking Bad averaged 2.9 million viewers, 1.8 million of them in 18-49. This was Breaking Bad‘s highest-rated season ever in 18-49, up 24% from Season 3. Over at FX, the premiere of new drama American Horror Story grew some 40% in adults 18-49 from Live+Same Day to Live+7 (2.0 million to 2.8 million) and is now the second-highest-rated FX debut in the demo behind The Shield (3.0 million), and tied with The Riches. AHS is on track to supplant or at least tie the iconic cop drama as FX’s top-rated series premiere ever in the 18-49 in the Live+7 ratings. The horror series already owns the title in several other demos, including adults 18-34 (1.5 million, tied with The Riches.)

Best Show On Television. It honestly makes me sick that only 3 Million caught that brilliant finale & around 20 million people watch that garbage Two & half men show..
Agreed. Breaking Bad is a great show with great acting and writing. I just started watching (always a late bloomer) but love it.
Breaking Bad is brilliant. Cranston is one of the best actors alive, in my opinion. And Gilligan deserves every plaudit he gets, and then some. I’m happy that it’s upped its audience from last year, but I wish even more people will get hooked on this terrific and appropriately addictive show.
J,
People are going to watch what they’re going to watch.
Just be glad that we live in a time where the technology, distribution and business models have shifted enough for a show like this to exist at all.
HEY, I LIKE “2 1/2 MEN”. DOES THAT MEAN I LIKE GARBAGE? WHAT’S ONE SHOW GOT TO DO WITH ANOTHER? I WATCHED BREAKING BAD AND I DIDN’T THINK IT WAS ALL THAT FUNNY.
Oh, oh. Maybe I know why. Because Breaking Bad is not a comedy?
Why can’t network television be as good as this?
Well, ABC has Missing, The River, NBC has Smash, Awake and The Firm and Fox has Alcatraz and Touch.
All of which haven’t even aired yet…
And none of which are likely to even be in the same realm of quality as Breaking Bad.
Hopefully Ashton can replace Cranston and get some eyeballs.
Thank you, ’cause that was great.
“Breaking Worse”
Brilliant season. Salieri was a mediocre composer, but could instantly recognize the brilliance of Mozart, and that’s how I feel about myself: I’m good enough to know Gilligan is doing something sublime, so how is it possible he hasn’t even been nominated for writing this? It’s not as though it’s not accessible. I know from the crap we put on people’s screens that we’re a town full of hacks, but are we such morons we can’t recognize genius?
The ratings on “AHS” are simply first time, curiosity, tune in’s…nothing more! And they compare it to “The Riches”?? That’s been cancelled. Nothing horror, scary about it… simply a terrible show with everything but the “kichen sink” thrown in.DOA
I loved AHS, so speak for yourself. And guarantee the ratings slowly go up for this show.
The Riches went off the rails. Good first season, crap second. B/c EVERY episode was a family in peril, threatening to get caught/killed episode. It would have been much better if they had far more episodes just dealing with living as their cover, and dealing with all the cultural differences they aren’t used to.
American Horror Story is as godawful as Breaking Bad is awesome. Hard to believe their ratings are even comparable.
Breaking Bad is such a solid show. One of my favorite things to watch. Excellent & consistent writing with awesome performances.
Can’t wait for next season.
AHS was an interesting little experiment and a cool concept for a tv series; however, it won’t go longer than one season. It’s trying to be too many things to too many different people and not hitting any of its beats with a great deal of success. The writing is very weak as well. Diet David Lynch, if you will.
American Horror Story was awesome.. Haven’t had so much fun watching a show for a while.. Glad it’s doing well.
Can’t belive this season of BB is over… Can’t wait for the next one!
