EXCLUSIVE: Ann Peacock has signed on to write Hunting Eichmann, a thriller based on the true account of Israeli agents who secretly entered pro-Nazi Argentina to capture Adolph Eichmann, known as the architect of the final solution. Tower Heist‘s Brett Ratner is attached to direct and Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman is producing with Ratner for Cathy Schulman at Mandalay Pictures. Peacock wrote Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and is currently scripting Cinderella for Universal. The project is based on the Neal Bascomb book.
Eichmann had eluded capture for nearly two decades, until the Mossad picked up his trail and dispatched a team of agents to find him. Some of them were Holocaust survivors themselves, and the eight agents risked everything to bring Eichmann back to face trial in Israel, where he was hanged in 1962. She’s repped by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment. Bascomb’s repped by ICM.

are you kidding me? ok. maybe they’ll both surprise me but at first glance this is horrible. cannot imagine either doing this material justice.
I had high hopes for this movie until I read Brett Ratner was directing this.
There is a play about this subject (Captors), which will hopefully do the true story justice. It premieres in Boston in November before hopefully coming to New York or London.
This movie has been made twice, once for television and once as a feature. Do we really need another retelling of that story? And do we really need Cathy Schulman and Anthony Bregman AND Brett Ratner?
Hey, what’s with knocking Bregman? Guy’s the classiest producer in New York. Actually, not just New York — LA, too. This sounds like a great project and Ratner is a versatile filmmaker who shouldn’t be knocked for doing different things — people always knock the guy just because he makes commmercial films (see the NY times excellent piece on Ratner from their holiday special). Boo.
It’s a really interesting story. Too bad Ratner will make it unwatchable.
How can Brett Ratner consistently make such schlocky movies and not know it? Maybe he does, but I have to think not. He seems to take himself very seriously. Just like Michael Bay. Yes, their movies make money, but they are terrible. Total crap. Have they no shame?
He has a favorable profile in the New York Times, so he must be a good director. Please! Spare us.
hey, let’s cut the guy some slack — he’s the new roland emmerich!
class in a glass.
ugh
LOVE Ann Peacock. She’ll do an amazing job……
mantrinst,
“Do we really need another retelling of that story?”
Yes. We need it to be told in a way that is both informative, respectful and dynamic. With Brett Ratner, more than likely we’ll get none of those.
Add this thought: What’s with the picture? she looks like she’s been embalmed. So from Cinderella to Nazi’s??. Please…no matter how he tries, brett ratner’s not going to get respect from the industry. You need talent to achieve that.
Any William Wylers out there?
w
casting idea: Mel Gibson as Adolf Eichman. Mel gets a comeback gig and an opportunity to make the talk show rounds and make clear that he thinks the Nazis were wrong most of the time.
Why is Brett Ratner not in prison for crimes against cinema as the NYT suggested?
Why will he destroy this important history for generations to come?
Let us hope he drops out and a better helmer signs on.
Well, then again, the script has to work.
Will Jackie Chan be in it?
Just a quibble, but it’s probably not accurate to call Eichmann the “architect” of the Final Solution. That distinction probably goes to Eichmann’s boss, Reinhard Heydrich. Eichmann was more of an organizer and facilitator. Heydrich put the ghastly project together.
to make a story like this good, regardless of how many times it’s been told, it will have to be a character-driven piece set against the backdrop of a “thrilling” plot – not unlike the French Connection. unfortunately, stories like these tend to be told using broad strokes and an overwhelming/projective musical score and on-the-nose imagery (see girl at end of Schindler’s List!). throw Brett Ratner into the mix and now, not only do we get bad filmmaking but also laughter because, er, this guy is a joke. it’s a total Shonda! (someone tell Brett what that means)
Ann and Gina are ripping off Muhte?em Yüzy?l, a superhit Turkish TV show, for Starz too.
