CBS Films Closes U.S. Deal On ‘Salmon Fishing In The Yemen’
Salmon Fishing In The Yemen will be released by CBS Films on March 2, 2012 in a limited run. It stars Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt alongside Kristin Scott Thomas and Amr Waked (Syriana) in a tale of fly-fishing and political spinning, unexpected heroism, and late-blooming love. I hear the studio, which bought the film at Toronto last month, thinks it has awards potential but didn’t want to make it a contender this late in the year.
Directed by Oscar-nominee Lasse Hallström (Chocolat) and written by Oscar-winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), the filmis based on Paul Torday’s acclaimed novel about a scientist who looks to fulfills a sheikh’s dream of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to his homeland in Yemen. It is produced by Paul Webster (The Motorcycle Diaries) and executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Stephen Garrett, Paula Jalfon, Zygi Kamasa and Guy Avshalom.

Can you even imagine a more esoteric title?
My wife dragged me to see this movie and it ended up being my favorite film of the festival.
Sounds very interesting. Wish it was out now.
awful title. I want to see it because of the cast , director & writer. But this title on its own would never attract me to a film. sounds like it belongs on Natl Geo station
March is a great month to roll out films you think have awards potential.
“about a scientist who looks to fulfills a sheikh’s dream of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to his homeland in Yemen.”
Seriously?
No. Really?
That’s what the film is about?
How the hell do you even pitch something like that?
And how the hell does a financier hear that pitch and say ‘Hells yeah! Take my money!’
Can’t wait for the sequel: Watching Paint Dry In Durban.
It’s based on a book by Paul Torday, which is actually quite interesting. A little bit of an open mind goes a long way, folks.
