The guy arrested for hacking the emails of Scarlett Johansson and other celebrities admits he knew what he was doing was wrong but once he started and discovered he could do it, he couldn’t stop. “It started as curiosity and it turned to just being addictive,” Christopher Chaney told a Florida TV station today. “Seeing the behind-the-scenes of what’s going on with the people you see on the big screen.” Concerning photos of Johansson and others that found their way to the Internet, Chaney told the station he never sold any pictures or information. The way what the FBI has dubbed his “hackerrazzi” scheme worked, Chaney said, is he hijacked the forwarding feature on email accounts of Johansson, Christina Aguilera and 48 others. When any of them got an email, he did too. “I know what I did was probably the worst invasion of privacy someone could experience,” he said. “I’m not trying to escape what I did. It was wrong. And I have to just face that and go forward.” What he could be facing is up to 121 years, but he says he plans to plead guilty to all counts in the indictment. For now, though, he’s posted $10,000 bail and is in effect grounded without Internet access. His mom, who was present with his dad during the TV interview, described Chaney as “a good kid, he just made a big mistake. He just had too much time on his hands. He’s too smart for his own good.” We’re not entirely sure we agree.

I still don’t understand how he did it. To change the forwarding settings you would need physical access to the device, at least once right? You know, to set the forwarding email.
If not then wouldn’t you need their password to login to the mail client and set it from there? It just seems a bit too easy, what he described
allegedly, he stalked them on social sites to gather personal information like names, birthdays, and pets of friends and family…then used the info he gathered to figure out their passwords. Then he logged into their email accounts, went to settings, and simply put his email address in the email forwarding box. pretty dumb idea if you ask me, its like taunting them to catch him.
“a good kid”???? Am I missing something? He’s fucking 35! Why is America bent on Celebrating the MAN-CHILD to the extreme. Seth Rogen or Zach Galifianakis could play this loser no problem!
This guy looks 65, not 35!
It’s cause he still lives with his parents.
“His mom,…described Chaney as “a good kid, he just made a big mistake. He just had too much time on his hands. He’s too smart for his own good.”"
Nope, sorry, he’s not a good kid. In fact he’s not a kid, he’s an adult. And he is not a good adult he is a bad adult. He is an adult who broke the law. An adult who knew he was breaking the law but continued to do so any way. An adult who willingly violated the privacy of other adults. And now it’s time to anti up and face adult punishment. His nice mom who thinks he’s a good kid who is just too smart for his own good can now bring him his cookies and milk in jail where he belongs and where he’ll have even more time on his hands enough so he can begin to learn to be a grown up.
Well said.
Sad that the invasion of privacy of some celebs gets pursued by the FBI, but more serious crimes are ignored by law enforcement.
What crimes are “ignored” by law enforcement? Law enforcement pursues ALL TYPES OF CRIMES, from the little, to the extremely serious.
Let’s not forget the most important thing about all this, he’s responsible for giving us Scarlett Johannson’s boob and butt pictures… I say Bravo Hackerrazzi, but you do still need to go to jail, sorry pal, good luck with all the real felons.
Kid ?..am I missing something ???..Is he a man Child?..he looks like a friend of my Dads…
You know these celebs had their assistants set their passwords, so it’s the assistant’s fault if they make the password “mydogisjojo.”
Or maybe it’s the actor for being super dumb and telling the asst. to just make their password really easy so they don’t forget it?
In closing, who gives a shit — why am I bothering to write this post?
Blame it on the assistant. Death to them! How dare they!
…Not everyone needs an assistant to set up a Facebook profile.
On the upside, if he beats the rap, Rupert Murdoch might be hiring.
I hear they have an opening.
Even odds he ends up working for the NSA.
121 years though? Celebrity justice at work again?
If you recall Sarah Palin had her Yahoo e-mail account hacked by a college student who simply clicked on “forgot password” then used public information to answer the challenge questions which were truthful responses. That’s why I use fake answers along with a fake zip code and birthday on my e-mail.
How Chaney was able to actually find the real e-mail account for a celebrity that is for personal use is still kinda hard to figure.
He didn’t just snoop. He put it out there for the world to see as well. It’s vile, and if his defense is “I couldn’t help myself”, well then good f’in luck.
Yeah put this guy to 121 years in prison while Lindsay Lohan hijacked 3 people in their car, then was driving drunk and high then stole that necklace, then was laughing at the judge and law and still she walks free. Great system.
Any relation to Dick Chaney?
