Cinemax’s first primetime drama series Strike Back is a keeper. HBO’s sibling cable network has picked up a 10-episode second season of the action series to air next year. Filming will begin in South Africa in early 2012. Returning as producing partners to Cinemax/HBO are Left Bank and Sky, which will air the series in the U.K. Also coming back are Left Bank’s Andy Harries and Sky’s Huw Kennair-Jones as executive producers, series producer Michael Casey, head of production Marigo Kehoe, series directors Bill Eagles, who will direct four new episodes, Paul Wilmshurst, who will direct two episodes, and writer Tony Saint, who will write a number of episodes and co-executive produce. There must be major deaths coming in the final episodes of Season 1 of Strike Back, which ends Oct. 21, as Cinemax declined to announce the cast for Season 2 “due to plot spoilers in upcoming episodes”. Season 1 starred Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester, with Amanda Mealing, Eva Birthistle, Jimi Mistry, Rhashan Stone, Michelle Lukes and Richard Armitage. The current season of the show tells the story of a charismatic former U.S. Special Forces operative (Stapleton) who joins with a stealth British military unit when a resourceful international terrorist group plots a major attack.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
“This ain’t no place for no hero…”
This strikes me as a very unusual press release. Announcing season 2 will begin shooting next year given they’re airing season 2 on Sky in the UK at the moment.
As I understand it, what we’re seeing in the US is technically the second season, but the first for Cinemax.
This is the first time they’ve aired the show in the US. Cinemax has disregarded the show’s actual 1st season in the UK and essentially rebooted it this year as the series’ 1st season.
Season 2 in the U.K. is season 1 in America. I don’t think the original six-part season has ever aired in the U.S.
US season 1 and UK season 2 are the same thing. The first season only aired in the UK before Cinemax came on as a producting partner. So, really, this press release means the UK is getting a season 3.
Season 2 is a different show here in the USA. Cinemax just pretended that Season 1 never existed and it never aired here.
Thing is, didn’t Frank Spotnitz leave the show to go do his own new show? Gonna be an inevitable quality dropoff now.
They are not airing the second season in the US. How is the second season compared to the 1st?
Hell yes!!
Just as long as they bring back Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester for season 2 or 3 if you count the UK season I will be happy. But I see in the release they are leaving things ambiguous.
Stapleton is the only reason to watch that show. The guy is awesome.
Yes, CC, Sullivan Stapleton is the man. He is another Australian that is about to take over Hollywood. Stapleton was wonderful in Animal Kingdom and , now, Strike Back. Sullivan can do comedy, action, drama, and he has charisma for days .
This is an interesting series. It did jump all over the place plot-wise and honestly I was getting a little tired of constantly seeing Sullivan Stapleton’s droopy white behind in every episode, but it was still escapist fun.
It’s STILL escapist fun– it’s got like 4 more eps to go in the first (UK second) season!
Just teasing you, Jimmy…
Hoo-Ray!
“Strike Back” is kind of a replacement for those of us who were “24″ addicts…
Here Here, BeeVee. I totally dig me some Strike Back as well!
Thank you cinemax!
I certainly wait for more of this series! I certainly did not expect to be as entertained by this as I was, and am glad I gave it a shot. This show is just so much fun.
I agree! This series is a lot of fun to watch. Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester are awesome in it!
Love the season, hope to get more!
Stapleton took a few episodes to convince me he’ an action star, but now I think he’s make a great Nathan Drake in the uncharted movie.
Fuck yea!!! Best show on tv at the moment.
I am addicted to this show! Best of the genre as far as I’m concerned, but if they kill of Sullivan Stapleton’s character I don’t think I’ll be able to watch next season!!
Read that Stapleton was signed for two seasons upfront. Doubt they’re going to kill him off and pay him out. Wouldn’t be the best investment.
I was excited about this show when it started. Now all it is about is the ‘bang’ of the week. That guy Scott should be passing along every STD known to man. This show should never be compared to 24. I miss 24. I won’t be watching anymore of this mess.
Better than “24″. The men look real! Cunningham’s Irish terrorist is my new sex crush. That sex scene was awesome! Required viewing for American men! Te lo juro!
Love this show. I could do without all the nudity though. I’m not tuning in to see Scotts bare butt each week. Its the action that keeps me coming back, and I don’t mean in the bedroom.
PLEASE don’t kill Col. Grant. I love her strength and leadership and she has great rapport with Michael and Scott.
Series 1 with Richard Armitage starring in the lead role was AWESOME, but I just don’t think the second series is as good unfortunately. But I am glad it is getting a third series anyway. I just wish they hadn’t killed off Richard Armitage’s character, John Porter.
Yeah, well you’re wrong… which is exactly why it’s being renewed.
That shit is AWESOME!! Pretty much how I experienced it when I was in,had similar job. I miss that shit-risk and all. Life is just hummdrum now. they hit a MAJOR HOMERUN in my book. Thanks for the reliving of my younger years. LOVE It!!!!
As Scott would say, “Holy shit!” Another good year to come. Good call Cinemax. My favorite show!
I really look forward to each episode after “stumbling” upon the series after it started. Stapleton and Winchester are Delta, Seals and the Rangers all rolled up in two hi-ho guts for glory operatives. It’s great to have the adrendline pumping on Saturday night. Great format….. Nice to have a series without vampires, zombies, witches or warlocks…just your everyday terrorist. Season 2 should be better than the first.
Yeah…My husband and I love this show!! Hope it stays around for many years!! I don’t want to get sucked into another show that only lasts for 2 years like the great HBO show Rome!!
I’m 66 years old, my husband is 70 and we can’t wait each week for the Strike Back series. Hopefully Cinemax won’t make us wait too long for another season. Great job guys!!!!
when the fighter relized the older women was not killed…. and he smiled…sealed the deal for me!
Sullivan Stapleton & Philip Winchester are drop dead gorgeous MEN!!
Came across Strike Back channel surfing and it was an AWESOME fine! I watched back-to-back episodes On Demand to get caught up. Can’t wait for the next episodes. Very intersted to see how “Daddy” Stonebridge handles fatherhood.
Hopefully, it will not suffer the fate of HBO’s Deadwood and Rome.
Love this show. It aint 24 but it is entertaining.
great show, favourite thing on TV now, Scott and Stonebridge are my heroes. Keep those episodes coming Cinemax.
