CW Gives Sarah Michelle Gellar Drama ‘Ringer’ Full-Season Order
In one fell swoop, The CW has given full-season orders to all of its three freshmen series. Following the pickup of Ringer earlier today, the network also has given back-nine orders to fellow rookies Hart Of Dixie and The Secret Circle. None of the three have been breakout hits for the CW, but network president Mark Pedowitz indicated that it was less the series’ ratings performance and more their long-term potential that drove the pickup decision. “We believe in the creative strength of these dramas, and by giving them back nine orders we can give our audience the chance
to enjoy complete seasons of all three of them,” he said. “With compelling storylines, engaging characters and tremendous buzz, we firmly believe that Hart Of Dixie, Ringer and The Secret Circle can become signature series for The CW, the kind of top-notch shows that are synonymous with our brand.” The CW had been in bad shape in the ratings, down 36% in adults 18-39 to a 0.7 in the Live+Same Day numbers for premiere week. But when the Live+7 numbers for the season’s opening week came out yesterday, the network shot up 43% to a 1.0 to erase the declines and then some.Hart Of Dixie, from Warner Bros TV, Fake Empire and CBS TV Studios, was created by Leila Gerstein, who executive produces with Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein and Donald Todd. Secret Circle, from Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros TV and CBS TV Studios, is executive produced by Kevin Williamson, Andrew Miller, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

3 for 3? Well, that depends on one’s perspective. Just because the plane leaves the airport on time doesn’t mean it’s gonna take you to Paris.
Agreed thatandthat. The headline should replace 3-for-3 with “Well they have to air something.”
That’s a hilarious comment on perspective.
thanks for reminding me why i read DHD. LOL!
I think they might finally cancel 90210 and GG becuase all three of these do better than them and get great reviews. They also do good in the W 18-34 thing.
I think 90210 is on the chopping block, but GG is still treated like the jewel in the crown.
Well I don’t watch any of them, so I can’t comment about quality.
But on ratings. Yes in viewers and currently Adults 18-49 (here their leads are already shrinking). The new shows are performing stronger then Gossip Girls and 90210. Of course they should be as new shows tend to start strong, but also tend to drop faster through their first year, then what returning shows typically do.
In adults 18-34, 90210 and Gossip Girl are doing better then all but Secret Circle (which benefits from having Vampire Diaries as a lead in). And in Women 18-34, again 90210 beats its fellow Tuesday night show in women 18-34, and Gossip Girl beats both Ringer and Heart of Dixie in w 18-34. And is just .033 behind Secret Circle (which again gets a great lead in with Vampire Diaries).
The real question is whether Pedowitz will put as much emphasis on the 18-34 demos as much as his predecessor.
Embarrassed to say I love both those shows. (Quiet “Yay!”).
What about One Tree Hill? When are they airing One Tree Hill?
I don’t think a specific date has been announced. Just midseason. So, probably starting in January?
The CW has to get ahead of the curve and maximize new technology – like making decisions based on more than just live and same day viewing, offering more web content, etc. They’re already better at it than the big 3 and Fox, but it’s going to be a constant issue until TV networks adapt or die. On a side note, TSC is fun and much darker than expected.
The CW lives by the thinking that they get key demo’s (young female viewers), so as long as a show gets average ratings for that demo, then a show and the network are doing great.
No other technology is needed as long as that demo can be used to get advertisers. In fact, other technologies might actually hamper the net’s pitch to advertisers.
What the F else is the CW going to fill it’s schedule with? You could throw a show on the CW that gets a 0.9 and the CW would call it a ‘hit.’
I love Hart of Dixie! I’m so happy to hear this!
yay! love hart of dixie!
Because you’re an idiot.
LOL. HOD struck me as brain dead as well.
This is the same scenario being practiced at NBC. Look, these two networks have nothing in line to air in certain timeslots so what are they expected to do? They can’t cancel them and leave dead air on, so they put a spin on how well these shows are doing and give them renewals but 9 out of 10 times, they end up getting canceled anyways in May of the following year. Pedowitz is stuck with ostroff’s ridiculous decision making on these shows and until next season comes along where he will determine the fate of this network (if it still remains around), that’s where the real test comes into play. The CW is a trainwreck thanks to ostroff.
I didn’t even know Hart of Dixie had even begun airing. My guess is if the CW had bought The Playboy Club, it would still be on the air.
If i remember correctly..Gossip Girl already has a full season order..as well as 90210 which got a full season with additional episodes order.
I am so stoked. I don’t watch ‘Hart’, but Ringer and TSC are two of my new faves!!! Can’t wait to see what happens with both of them. Congrats, guys!
The Rachel Bilson show is cute. Secret circle is kind of terrible.
These orders aren’t surprising. The Secret Circle was going to be given the back 9 because it’s got the highest ratings of the new shows. But Mark Pedowitz has said that he wants to pull in new viewers by doing procedurals (Hart of Dixie, a medical procedural) and more “adult” dramas (Ringer).
I just don’t know what they’ll do at midseason now. They have One Tree Hill for 13 episodes, another cycle of ANTM, Re-Modeled, and 2 hours per week of The Frame. But all their shows now have full season orders, so there’s only one hour open on the schedule.
90210 is on its way out, but GG I really don’t think will be going anywhere for at least a couple more seasons. As for the newcomers I really enjoyed Hart of Dixie and I agree that it may not be a huge hit but it will have legs. Just my .02
Im soooo glad that u picked up Hart of Dixie, Ringer< and the Secret Circle i love those shows.
I hope Secret Cirle Is Having Another Season I Watch It Everytime! Love That Show! Please Season 3!
I plead with the cw to please reconsider showing the secret circle series
