Another major carriage dispute threatens to pull Fox’s cable networks from DirecTV systems on November 1. The affected networks include FX (including its hit Sons Of Anarchy and hot newcomer American Horror Story), National Geographic Channel, Speed, Fuel TV, Fox Soccer, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Deportes, and the 19 Fox regional sports networks. Fox Networks’ previous carriage agreement with DirecTV expired on September 30. After extending the talks, no progress was made, leading to a standoff between the two sides that may lead to the blackout. Exactly a year ago, the same networks went dark on DirecTV’s rival satcaster Dish Network before the two sides finally reached a new agreement. Like in previous carriage fights, both sides released dueling statements and launched competing websites — KeepMyNets.com (Fox) and OurPromiseToYou.com (DirecTV). In its statement, DirecTV claims that Fox is seeking a 40% license-fee increase. Here are the two statements:
FOX NETWORKS: Despite Fox Networks’ offer of an extension during our ongoing negotiations, DirecTV has informed us and their customers that unless we agree to their demands, they “will suspend our networks on November 1.”
DirecTV sent us a proposal on Tuesday afternoon. They have given us no chance to respond before taking an unnecessarily aggressive posture and going public. It is disappointing that they have chosen bad faith tactics over meaningful negotiation.
We have proposed to keep the Fox Networks on DirecTV for the same price, and on the same terms as they are currently carried while we attempt to work out a fair agreement. Unfortunately, DirecTV has decided that unless they get their way, they are going to pull the plug on their customers November 1.
DIRECTV CEO MIKE WHITE: DirecTV’s agreement with News Corp./Fox for some of their national cable networks and regional Fox Sports networks has expired.
News Corp. has demanded that DirecTV customers pay nearly 40% more for the same channels they already receive. If a new deal is not reached, we will be forced to suspend the channels as early as Nov.1.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

All owned by News Corp. This is ridiculous.
IF DIRECT TV CAN’T GET THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR — AND KEEP THESE CHANNELS , THEN THEY NEED TO LOWER OUR PAYMENTS OR I WILL DROP THEM FOR ANOTHER PROVIDER.
Perhaps you missed this part of the dispute…”News Corp. has demanded that DirecTV customers pay nearly 40% more for the same channels they already receive”…..so why slam DirectTV??
Its bad enough we dont get “E” HD only been with Directv for less than a year and dislike very much but guess what? I can drop them because their “contract” , costumer serv is terrible, and just trying to get on the phone with a representative requires a minimum of one hr. Frustrating, this may be the break Im looking for. Im sure I can get of the now after all Directv will be doing the contract breaking. These are major channels i expected when i signed this contract.
i just had an issue with my direct tv whole home dvr, which is unfortunate, but i called 1800directtv and had said “representative” and had someone on the phone within 30 seconds. they stayed on the phone until we made sure the whole home worked on every receiver. never had a problem with them.
The only problem with the breach of contract argument is that in the fine print they state “We reserve the right to change the channel line-up and pricing at anytime without notice.” Its right on the website if you care to read it. The only contract consumers have with Directv is the right for them to take our money…
I am not sure what Directv customer service you are calling but I have never had a wait longer than 2 minutes. Maybe your timepiece is running fast……
I pay direct TV for a service- to provide a channel lineup that I will watch. Most of anything I watch (It’s Always Sunny, American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, Simpsons, Family Guy, Fox News, Raising Hope, Football) is on…FOX. Therfore, my first and only reaction to DirecTV dropping FOX, is to drop DirecTV. Otherwise I would be paying money for something I don’t use…which I’m not a big fan of.
Step 1 will be to reduce my channel package until my 2 yr contract is up to the most basic Select package. Also will cancel any DVR service fees if they are on there and will cancel HD. Step 2 will then start watching Hulu and Netflix until my contracts is up at which time I will bail. I may bail earlier if I become willing to eat the $20/mo early cancellation fee.
Anyone else on board?
I’m on board, I’m sure there are MANY of us!!!
If Direct TV alters it’s programing they are in fact breaching the Contract Agreement as it existed at the time you entered into that agreement. It is Direct tv who has broken the agreement and you are no longer obligated by that agreement. Direct TV must correct it’s breach by offering reduced rates for the remainder of the contract term but you would not have to accept such an offer because once breached the contract is no longer enforcable.
I saw the commercial with the CEO of direct TV talking about fox wants us to pay 40% more for there channel but I didn’t really care. Then It’s Always Sunny preview came on and it clicked in my head that Sunny is on Fox I started screaming my head off I was angry.
My parents will bail and not pay them one more cent, contract be damned. Speed is an absolutely required channel in our house.
I agree! I will call and argue with them about cancelling but in the end, I am sure I won’t be able to get out of the contract no matter how unfair it is. But I will drop everything to the bare minimum and use the money I save to get a different provider that carries the channels i want to watch.
Yep I am on board too!!!
I pay enough for direct tv and to get rid of a local channel is total politics between 2 corp who don’t care about the customer. I will chg to another provider.
While watching American Idol tonight, this news about DirecTV dropping FOX 40 came as a complete shock! It has made me so angry, because all my favorite programs are on FOX 40! Yes, as far as I am concerned this is definitely a breach of contract on DirecTV part, as we just recently signed up for another 2 year contract not knowing about this. We will do whatever is necessary to drop DirecTV if this happens. Please do not drop FOX 40 from our programming!
Again another person who is blaming direct for Fox’s bs…look direct is not cutting fox…fox is trying to milk more money out of direct, not the other way around. For those who complain about direct and say they have problems I wonder if those problems somehow were started by you? Unless of course you are upset over just the fox crap. I as one other comment have never had a problem with directtv. In fact they have went way overboard more than once to fix problems that I may have which is very view. ONe time there was some high school football games from Texas supposed to be on and when I talked to them saying for some reason it had been blacked out they apoligized and gave me ten bucks off my bill for a whole year. Another time there was something..oh yeah it was the last time that our local fox bully decided to pull the crap at the start of football playoffs, Idol and the last season of 24. One Fox found out that there are alot of loyal customers of direct that weren’t happy about fox trying to screw us, the customers like they did a small local cable company. The service people that I talked to and offered my concerns over missing 24..bad huh…quickly helped me by giving me ten bucks off my bill that time for six months. They had just gave me that deal when two days later fox had to give in and yet they didn’t take it back. The only time I had a problem was years ago when my wife and I were in real tight situation due to medical crap and we got behind on our bill for direct. I tried to get them to work with me more than the two months I was behind and they actually moved the date of the shutoff three weeks to try and help me keep them and find the money to pay. We couldn’t get the money to catch up and they had to shut it off. Funny…it wasn’t them being the butt heads. They tried to help us but they can’t give out free programs can they? No…it tells you when to pay your bill every month and it is our responsibility as customers to pay on time. If something happens that we can’t pay then even though they are understanding some being in the same situation before they can’t as I said give it for free. Besides it isn’t like tv shows are life and death situations you can’t do with out no matter what they are. Just be patient and quit crying. It will get taken care of and we will have fox back before long on directs terms…and again direct isn’t cutting the channel. If you are going to go off at least have your info right. Fox has pulled this before and they will try again no doubt because they could care less about us, the customer. That is why you see them pull this crap at important times to the viewers..just like now with football season..the NFL anyway is about to start. If you can’t wait then go to dish and get stuck with a company that is flayling about in the water like a fish on a line. The try and offer everything possible to get customers and when they do manage to con someone from cable or direct all of a sudden the new people find out that….oh no….crap..and I am stuck with them because of the contract. Yeah free HD for life. Please..they aren’ fulltime as the commercials say and there is less quality channels to watch. Many have been taken off that are great channels but they don’t actually let you know that until they have you by alls. I wouldn’t be surprised if they folded down the road…all I can say to those who threaten to leave direct…is leave..go to dish and then watch fox come back the day after..and if you like MLB, NFL, etc…guess what? They dont’ have it. So please once again before blaming one company check your facts and then be patient.
Why slam DirecTV? because it is also owned by NewsCorp as is Fox and FX — almost all of the channels that are going to be cancelled.
This is nothing more than price fixing and price manipulation which NewsCorp is well documented as doing to many other industries and companies — for which they have paid out billions in lawsuit losses/settlements. (See CNN’s major investigative report on some of the very illegal and dirty dealings of Newscorp just last week.)
Where is the FCC/Justice Department and the hungry class action suit lawyers in this sham/scam?
Bring it on legal eagles! Sue NewsCorp, Fox, FX, DirecTV to hell and back for violation of RICO, breach of contract and all those other price manipulation statutes & more.
Exactly where is there any protection for consumers anymore?
I don’t think News Corp owns DirecTV anymore. I heard/read over a year ago that News Corp sold it.
Why? Because another carrier can still carry these channels at a comparable cost.
Because,BWM, while Fox offered to let Direct TV keep the channels on the air at the same cost during this dispute, Direct TV WON’T DO IT. Direct TV will then be punishing ME. The paying customer. Both sides deserved to be slammed.
While I agree that a 40% increase by Fox is crazy, I don’t think Directv is being fair in their reporting of this. Directv says they have 50 million customers and that they currently pay about $1 billion to Fox. If they paid Fox $400 million more (i.e. the 40%) that would break down to about $8 per year per reported customer or about 67 cents per month. And that’s not a 40% increase in the bill but only a fraction of that. So to imply that our rates need to go up 40% is really disingenous and lie.
I think the customers should be given a choice to see the programs they want to see. The Networks could give us a list of all the shows and we could pick and pay for the ones we want to view. We could see previews of new shows and be able to view them a couple of times and then purchase or drop them. I know we don’t watch every single show we pay for. It would be great to just pay for the programs we enjoy watching! Barbara Chaddick
I agree! I watch maybe a dozen channels and the rest is junk to me which does by chance include the Fox channels right now. I’m paying way too much for what is actually watched.
so who is lying Fox or DirectTV, Fox aka newscorp says they didn’t say they were wanting an increase and before the negotiations DirectTV put out the false story.
I hope they get things figured out soon. I switched from Dish to Direct for the same B— S— a year ago. Fox needs to stop being so greedy. We already pay way to much to watch what used to be free.
They were never free Channels.
you must be young, before the 70s they were all free over the airways, 2,4,5,7,9,11 and 13, all major networks back then.
WAKE UP IDIOT THEREWAS TV BEFORE THE 80′S
HAHAHAHA…. never free tv… so silly!
There were free channels when I was a little girl. You’re just to young to remember. Everyone said they would never pay for TV because they had bought their TV’s! We also said we would never pay for water. Back then we only had 3 channels and the water was fit to drink. Never say never. We get what we pay for and the greedy Networks know that, unfortunately. It’s a shame the Networks aren’t going to deliver what we have already paid for! That is a breach of our contract!
why cant they leave well enough a long, their is so much adds , beauty sales and cooking shows FX is it for a good show and something to watch, please, we are paying enough as it is and with no jobs out their how do you think every one can afford it,cant! and thats it in a nut shell. give the Directv customers a break for once, leave FX as is.
Amen!
why cant they leave well enough a long, their is so much adds , beauty sales and cooking shows FX is it for a good show and something to watch, please, we are paying enough as it is and with no jobs out their how do you think every one can afford it,cant! and thats it in a nut shell. give the Directv customers a break for once, leave FX as is.
They still are free. You’re paying for the service by which you receive it. Want FOX? Put up an antenna. You can get free HDTV programming from the network broadcasters that way.
I Agree!!
If Direct TV doesn’t get this deal done it will lose a loyal customer that’s been with them for over 8 years. I love many shows on many of those programs and have no problem switching my provider to get them.
Just another example of that Patriotic paragon, Rupert “I wiretap murder victims” Murdoch. He must be spending his time with the Kock Brothers at the Freedom Works “Screw Americans” think tank…
Spoken like a true neanderthal left wing nut job. Isn’t it time for you to carry a sign at your local “Occupy-whatever-city-you are-in”
Are we also pot smoking hippies who want the terrorists to win? Those people out there are real Americans with real disputes. They don’t hate our country, they hate the people in charge. They don’t hate capitalism, they hate what’s been done to it. It surprises me how you’re believing all of these lies when all of those people out there have great college educations and can’t even get jobs. You’re the 1%, we’re the 99%.
I too have been a loyal customer for over 6 years. I don’t like the prospect of changing to DISH or some other provider if there is one where I live, and I think we pay enough for our service – which BTW has a habit of HD going out on us quite frequently. And Why in the world take a good movie channel, PLUS an educational one (National Geographics), just so we are forced to whatch STUPID reality shows.
I totally agree! I despise those fake “reality” shows with the fake drama queens that have no talent!
I TOTALLY AGREE, THE BILL IS GETTING HIGHER, CHARGES YOU DON’T MAKE. NOW YOU ARE TAKING OFF FX THE ONE CHANNEL I ENJOY. WHAT’S NEXT THE KIDS CARTTONS.
It looks to me like FOX wants more money from DIRECTV and if they give it to them. Then they will have to charge their customers more money to pay FOX. I like some of the shows that are on FOX but i can live without another greedy billionaires channels. I feel like just shuting it all off and playing video games Because the greed is bullshit
I have been a loyal customer for 13 years and I pay $85.00 for the extended basic. I just became a huge fan of American Horror Story and if they take this away from me consider it done… I’m moving providers!!!!
We have the exact problem!
totally agree but where to go from here. Dropped them a year ago over a sports package direct billed me for that i didnt want and went with dish only to have them raise my rates after only 45 days, after complaining about them breaking our contract was told to read “fine” print at bottom saying they have that right no matter what contract states, so where to from here, both have us by the ba;;s if we want tv to watch
Ditto! they will not be able to charge me an early termination fee if they remove all the Fox channels
I will pull the plug on Direct TV, Dish or local cable .
you hit it right and i hope alot of others feel the same way we pay enough for the service
I am always amazed by the industry of Greed.
Here we are, simple working stiffs, being recruited to take sides in “who’s going to have the longest Yacht”
I call bullshit, these Wall Street Scum need a trimming.
A) I’m really concerned about my weekly cable bill exceeding that of groceries.
B) who pays for all of the front end profits? The ADVERTISERS. Let Geico pay for this bullshit. For everyone that’s stupid enough to pay the value of their cars every 5 years in premiums, just add another $100 per year. This would go for Progressive, Allstate, Century and all of the many others that spend more money annoying me with their stupid repetitive commercials all day long.
Corporate Greed really sucks. I’d like all these assholes trophy wives to blow me and let me squirt an eyeful onto each & everyone’s face.
you pay for a program package, direct discontinues some of your package, you already pay for.dont pay them. they are breaking the contract.forget about the little tiny fine print.change how they recieve payment and stop them in their tracks, from sneaking in and ripping you off for so-called penalties.if enough quit or refuse to pay they will be treating you differently.they want the money man.dont let them have any.
I watch fox 40 if it gets drop.I will drop direc TV
I agree with you on this one…
If direct does not produce what a person is signed up for what alot of people dont know that contract works both ways, deleteing these channels that we have had and what we signed up for ,I feel direct tv is breaking their contract with the customer ,I am gong to take my business elsewhere, and I have only been a customer since Nov of 2011
I’m so sick and tired of this company and it hasn’t been a damn year yet! Comcast it is..
I wonder why people want to blame direct for this? If they can’t get their head out and crap. Please! You think it is all their fault and the owners of the Fox stations are the innocent victims here? Not so. The area I live in has a Fox provider who loves to squeeze his viewership by bullying basically cable and satellite providers. Local Fox has pulled this before and they had to finally cave to what Direct offered them because of the amount of complaints that Fox was getting. Fox pulled themselves off the air in January almost two years ago, with 24, Idol, and the playoffs going on for football hoping that direct could care less about their customers, pay fox and raise the rates on us. It didn’t work. The year before if I remember right or around that time The local Fox affilate ownership bullied a smaller town cable station causing them to have to go off the air for a time, leaving customers without fox during football season and having the same people have to go to the bars and other places away from home to watch shows if they wanted to. In this case though being that the local cable network was a little market company they were forced to cave and give fox what they wanted. It hurt the company, cable that is because not only did they have to pay more thanks to the fox bullies but they lost alot of customers who went to satellite. If forget the number that was said but it was quite a large number of customers who left the cable not to come back. So Fox thought they could pull this on Direct…well….no they couldn’t. Direct has more money and so far what I see having this happen with fox before and recently viacom direct has gotten its way and has kept the prices down for us. You may think they are high but if you want satellite then you have to remember that they aren’t getting all of these different channels/shows for free either. They have to pay lots of money as well and they do a great job of keeping our bill lower with alot more channels to watch for us than dish’s clown package. So before trashing direct you may want to actually look at what is going on because if you want to pay more..which I don’t then I guess direct can cave like the cable compaines and raise our bill thirty or more dollars…or worse because once they cave others will do the same thing in trying to get more money. There is always to sides and the history of the local fox in my area is less than genuine.
News corp networks are so greedy…but being fox etc this is nothing new for them…why would they be so stupid as to lose viewership especially during football season.
i will go back to dish if this isnt resolved
Did you switch to DirecTV when Dish had the same battle with Fox a year ago? If you start switching every time you lose channels, then prepare to have a new provider every 6 months.
Would you rather that DirecTV cave in and pay the 40% hike and increase your bill?
no, but it would be nice to keep the channel that were agreed to when signing up!!, What do you wanna bet you will be charged a fee for leaving.
actually i bet they will let you out of your contract without fees
because you agreed to your service with FX included in the agreement. So by law they would have to let you out since they are the ones who are actually violating the agreement by cancelling the channel. Whats going to end up happening in the long run is FOX is trying to become a pay channel like SHOWTIME or HBO.
They cant increase on existing customers under contract. Only the new customers. The statement from dirctv is worded so it seems fox is wanting to raise the price for the customer. This is a tactic of word games by directv. Fox wants more money from dirctv. Not us. The cost might eventually be passed down to new customers. Take a look at the signal chain, guys. Customers do not pay fox nor any other television broadcast bereau for their service.
IF WE ARENT PAYING FOR THEM CHANNELS THEN WHAT ARE WE PAYING FOR.
IT’S FOX NOT DIRECTV THAT IS CAUSING THIS DISPUTE. FOX IS BEING GREEDY. AND IF DIRECTV PAYS FOX AND DOESNT CHARGE US THEN THEY LOSE MILLIONS. OPEN YOUR EYES! IF YOU HAD A BUSINESS AND ONE OF YOUR SUPPLIERS RAISED THEIR RATES, YOU WOULD HAVE TO RAISE THE PRICE GOING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. OR YOU WOULD TAKE A BIG HIT. DIRECTV IS ACTUALLY LOOKING OUT FOR ALL OF US BY REFUSING TO PAY FOX. BECAUSE ALL THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO DO IS RAISE THE RATES ON CUSTOMERS AND GIVE AN EXPLAINATION. THEY COULD ALSO SAY THAT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PAY THE 40% INCREASE TO KEEP THE CHANNEL.
You’ll go back to dish, then go! goodbye! i’d rather you went to dish then for my television bill going up again. F*** FOX
if my bill ingresses by 40% or i loose my fox channels.. i know i got a three new targets .. be realistic direct tv and fox noone can afford that increase..
they arent going to increase your bill by 40% learn how to read
fox wants to increase the fees paid by directv to FOX by 40%. which means if Directv pays Fox 10,000,000 per year. Then they want 4 million more per year which in turn will cost all of us. So don’t be mad at Directv be mad at the greedy Billionaire that owns FOX. He has more money then he knows what to do with and could careless about the little guys that cant afford to pay their bills.
I SAY WE ALL BOYCOTT FOX I WILL STILL HAVE LIKE 1000 CHANNELS SO I WILL SURVIVE
You must think those actors and actresses work on those shows for free… right, it must be the greedy network.
Direct Tv can kiss mi ass then cause i watch fx the most . ill look elsewhere (flips bird )
HEY MJ IF YOU WANT TO FLIP THE BIRD TO ANYONE DO IT TO FOX THEY ARE THE ONES THAT WANT MORE MONEY AND THEY CANT EVEN SUPPLY YOU WITH THEIR OWN CHANNEL. THEY ARE EXTORTING MONEY BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WILL COST DIRECTV EITHER MONEY OR CUSTOMERS OR BOTH AND YOUR MAD AT DIRECTV FOR REFUSING FOX’S DEMANDS. WOW!!! IS YOUR HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS RIGHT
Hey John, STFU you socialist jackass.
If you want to blame someone blame Obama for screwing up the economy so bad that the cost of everything has gone up.
FOX is a company, they have to make a profit to survive. What makes you think they raised their rates because they are greedy? I’m sure their cost of doing business has gone up just like everyone elses.
Now go back to your smelly tent at Occupy Wall Street you dirty hippie.
Obama is to blame? Inflation is low, taxes are low. Bush messed up the economy but now it’s Obama’s fault. You are a fool.
Jason: Boo hooing for Fux. You’re nothing but a tool.
why dont you first.. take your pinky off the shift button, or hit the capslock button.. and secondly, get your head out of direct TV’s ass. i cant even read what you said because the all caps is giving a fucking headache. all i know is you’re anti-fox and it just proves how intellectual you really are. go back to 2nd grade.. mommy wants he computer back.
Dadud, I had a headache, too, until you got me laughing. Thanks.
If FOX is going to charge Direct Tv another 40% then I’m sure the consumer is going to have to foot the bill but if that’s the case I don’t get people blaming Direct. I mean surely you people can read or are you just limited to pushing buttons on your remote control?
I have been a direct tv customer for over ten years, if you pull the chanels, come get your recievers because i will become a dish customer in a heartbeat. Listen to the voice of YOUR customers and eat the 40 %.
HEY RICHARD I THINK YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO DISH THEN BECAUSE DIRECTV NEEDS CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE BRAINS THAT ACTUALLY FUNCTION LIKE THEY WERE INTENDED
Oh, and stop typing IN ALL CAPS you idiot, it’s rude.
This is crap. I signed up over a year ago on a 2 year deal. if direct tv can’t stand by on what they offered then they can kiss me goodbye. Comcast is looking good again.if they lose those channels then my bill should be lowered period.
I’m at a loss of the decision of DirecTv deciding to drop FX. I love many of the programs and have always been pleased with my subscription to DirecTv. Unfortunately now I have decision of who I will have to watch some of my favorite shows. Please know I have been a pleased costumer, but when you take the Sons of Anarchy off and I can longer watch this program then I have no choice but to fined another provider.

Im a huge SOA fan!!!! And kurt sutter has got it right! WE THE CUSTOMERS ARE GETTING SCREWED! its not right for DTV to use us as blackmail to get what they want! I ,as a paying customer, dont like being used in a big corporate game thataffects me, and i dont even get a say in it!!! Only to have broadcasts at the last moment begging for our support…. I WANT FX ON DTV!!!
I agree. just keep Fox on and keep negotiating for a new deal.Fox networks are only a very small part of our overall bill. A 40% increase on fox stations would mean a .08 increase in all of monthly bills. Thats EIGHT CENTS per month. For that Direct Tv is hanging us all out dry. Charge me the 8 cents and get on with business.
I can’t believe this bulls@*it. I Just got a 2 yr contrast with Direst TV (Direct).. I dont care who’s falt this is. If Direct TV can not provive my with the chanels I signed up for I WANT OUT OF MY CONTRACT. I’m sure there will be a class action suite wiil follow. I will be one of the first to “jump on “
WE ARE GETTING SCREWED,WE HAVE PAID FOR THESE CHANNELS AND NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF A SEASON OF THE SONS THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE THEM AND ALL OTHER SHOWS .OFF.WE WANT FX ON OR WE WILL GO TO ANOTHER PROVIDER,LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 14 YEARS
KEEP FX Direct TV-or we will be dropping you guys, We can’t go without SOA or FSN (if you guys were going to drop that in my area also) This is CRAP!!
WE KNOW THAT ITS NOT ALL DTV ,FOX THANKS THEY NEED MORE MONEY .WE ALL DON,T HAVE THE KIND OF MONEY THEY HAVE ,FOX GIVE US A BREAK.
If this does go thru it will not matter if you switch to dish it will be the same. Fox will do the same to them and raise the price acordingly. If dish does not go along with it they will end up going with some cable company so you cant get Fox unless you switch to cable. Let them go and when there market share plumments they will be begging dish and direct-tv to take them back. I suggest that unless you absolutely have to watch Fox boycott them. Some of the things that will go black are things most people dont watch anyway Fox will stand to loose millions. Direct-tv should just offer a discount to its customers for the inconvience and tell Fox to go fuck themselves they will eventually come around
Please don’t get rid fx I don’t want to lose those channels. I love a lot of the new shows that are on FX!!!
if channels are kept my bill goes up. if channels are lost im damn sure my bill wont go down…..
so yo i read news corps statement at the top and they said they were negotiating to find a fair agreement while direct tv just says they are asking 40% increase which cant be true if newscorp says theyre trying to negotiate now maybe they started at 40% but i personally just believe they were haggling you know you never start at what you actually want you ask for more. and direct tv is gonna take a much bigger hit for dropping fox stations because so many people are gonna switch providers
There are so many complainers here that I just don’t know where to begin. The American society is in a phase of entitlement where so many believe they are entitled to so much. You all signed a contract and part of this contract is the customer agreement which states:
(d) Our Programming Changes. Many factors affect the availability, cost and quality of programming and may influence the decision to raise prices and the amount of any increase. These include, among others, programming and other costs, consumer demand, market and shareholder expectations, and changing business conditions. Accordingly, we must reserve the unrestricted right to change, rearrange, add or delete our programming packages, the selections in those packages, our prices, and any other Service we offer, at any time. We will endeavor to notify you of any change that is within our reasonable control and its effective date. In most cases this notice will be about one month in advance. You always have the right to cancel your Service, in whole or in part, if you do not accept the change (see Section 5). If you cancel your Service, a deactivation fee (described in Sections 2 & 5(b)) or other charges may apply. Credits, if any, to your account will be posted as described in Section 5. If you do not cancel, your continued receipt of our Service will constitute acceptance.
You are dealing with just DirecTv and they are dealing with many more other companies negotiating contracts as they see fit to remain leaders in the cable industry ultimately providing a great experience for customers. Cut them some slack, these things happen in business. Grab a tissue and watch your show on the internet until the issue is resolved.
To everyone saying News Corp owns DirecTv and is rigging the prices…didn’t News Corp trade all their interests to Liberty Media in return for Liberty’s shares in News Corp? Just saying…
Some guy complained about HD channels always going out. that means his dish isn’t peaked properly and most likely mounted to his fascia like the old standards which have changed. Dishes are mounted very sturdy now and are guaranteed, so stop being cheap like you were when you didn’t sign up for the Protection Plan and go ahead and pay the $50 for a service call. The technicians are required now to update and fix everything in the home as needed.
As for people saying they got randomly charged for various packages… DirecTv has a new promo every couple months and if you listen closely to the agreement over the phone or read the small print ordering online, you most likely got something for free that you have top cancel on your own later. Do that next time.
I am tired now….I can’t answer them all.
Sure they have the right, as stated in the contract (which everybody reads through). But consumers have the right to decide to drop a “provider” if they don’t provide what they desire.
I’m gonna get rabbit ears and watch basic TV for free. I can take these hundreds of dollars and spend a vacation with my family. These selfish corporations take our money and what do we get in return???? Couch potato butt and drained bank accounts! Im over them…..Im going outside to enjoy fresh air and do something productive with my life. Bye bye Direct TV and Fox, I’M DONE BEING NICKELED AND DIMED BY YOU. Reality is LIFE…..Im not wasting mine on UNREALITY.
Simple. They drop FX, I drop them.
After calling Direct TV, they informed me that if you have a contract that you cannot cancel and they will not lower the rates. Basically, you are screwed if you recently switched from Dish to Direct!
I have had direct TV for years. If direct tv does not keep Fox I will switch to another proveder.
MR/ DIRECTV,
YOU PULL THE PLUG ON FOX AND FX AND I PROMISE YOU WILL LOSE MORE SUBSCRIBERS THAN YOU KNOW.——-BUT YOU WILL FIND OUT !!!!
Dear DirecTV, i am a current and future ex customer if this is not straightened out. since your heads are…hmm hmm….up your arses, and you haven’t seen the light of day lately look up what is going on with Bank of America and Netflix…..get the point?
Each of you saying News Corp are buying into the greed of the 1% that feel 1 or 2 billion in pure profit above all operating costs is not enough. Whether you switch or not a deal is made that hurts the consumer which is us. Every January our rates increase about 15-20% from all the providers because of these type of disputes.
Hey man, Directv kept your bill the same with the Versus dispute going on. It work the last time, it will work again.
you pay for a package, direct removes programs you already pay for.stop paying them.they re breaking the contract with you forget about the tiny, little hard to read fine print, stop the way they recieve payment.then a sneak attack to collect penalties wont happen.you dont need them, they need you.they want the MONEY MAN,dont let them have any.
what a crock…..directv! Every year when March rolls around, you raise the price on your viewers, plus you rip us off by getting rid of channels the customer pays for.Now its turned into threats of removing our Fox channels. Didn’t we just go through this? You people have no idea how tired your viewing public is getting. I’ve been with you for 16 years. I’ve not fussed one time about your yearly approx. 20% rate hike, but this time I PROMISE WHEN MY FOX GOES DARK……….I WILL GO ELSE WHERE !!!!! And there will be plenty of others who will do the same. I highly suggest you get it together and quit being FOOLS! B.T.
If I can’t have HGTV and BET then I will have to let DIRECT TV go!!!!!!
I hope this isn’t G4TV all over again, and it is just gone. When my contract is up, I am either going to cut any kind of subscription tv, or go dish, and hope Blockbusters streaming, and parternership has stregnthend by then.
Seconded. Is the current management problem not bringing about a resolution?
Has Fox devalued the National Geographic name? Everytime I flick by the channel it’s either some show about hillbillies or a sex show. The other night it was a guy who was having cyber sex with his cyber children.
This was the magazine that grandma felt was worthy of getting me as a kid. Now it’s pure gutter trash thanks to Murdoch’s spawn. Grandma wouldn’t be happy with cyber incest being promoted. What’s next – The Glory Holes of Madison County?
As a Directv customer, I stand up for them. These price increases have to stop. Especially for channels that many of us don’t want. Personally I don’t care if we don’t have any of these Fox channels; don’t watch any of them anyway (and you could get rid of all of the ESPN channels too!)… And you could even get rid of Fox News and I wouldn’t care. As it is, I prob will get rid of Directv when contract ends in a few months cuz its just too expensive. Ill watch less tv. watch internet tv, and watch over the air HD channels for FREE> By the way if any Directv exec reads this (since your customer service reps are totally useless and RUDE), it is not right for you to force existing customers to pay extra for HD and give it free for new customers. Id think you’d want to keep your customers but I guess Im wrong. ( I guess corporations no longer buy into the fact that its cheaper to keep customers than get new ones- Tmobile does the same thing)…but either customers have to cancel and then sign up with a different name – or go to a competitor. DIRECTV IM COUNTING THE DAYS TO CANCEL
Ooooooh, look out for this guy, he don’t take no guff!
This viewer, despite his refusal to use apostrophes, speaks for thousands of DirecTV subscribers. It’s getting too expensive, way too expensive.
Shedding some of these bullshit channels might make the service better.
Aside from a week of San Diego Comic Con, G4 was a lot of middle-aged nerds who felt they needed to be on-camera. Losing NatGeo or FX, meh… Without NatGeo, how would I ever have seen “The Adult Baby?”
It might be worth losing them to send a message to other channels. “Kill the chicken to scare the pig,” as the Chinese say.
So, DirecTV, keep the service affordable. Try to make it even cheaper for current customers. Or you might find your stock plunging faster than NetFlix.
So G4 was only for a bunch of nerds who wanted to be on tv. Uh Comic Con is for nerds.
DTV will not lower their bills no matter how many channels they remove.
Do you realize you started off with “As a directv customer, I stand up for them” and ended with DIRECTV IM COUNTING THE DAYS TO CANCEL. You are one dim bulb
Hey steven I’m sorry you do not watch the best sports providers in America, but unlike you I want my NASCAR, my Speed Channel, National Geographic, Fx, and Fox Channels (as well as ESPN!) I for one want them to reach in an agreement because DirecTV is a great television provider, but I don’t know how much longer it will last. It is up to them to work it out before I switch too. I will have my NASCAR somehow!
i agree and second this comment. Speed is why i got this package and without it you will be without me
Here here or is it hear hear to John’s post. If we don’t “hear” speed channel (one of the many reasons our family has stayed with DirectTV since the beginning) then they may “hear” click click as we go elsewhere or go back to just our regular old tv viewing. I’m not an all the time tv watcher, however when I do, I want to see– what I want to see. Cutting channels and adding ones that I or my family care not to watch is not the solution. DirectTV the economy is knocking at your door. Open up and listen to the little people who have made money for YOU and YOUR EXECS for a long long long time.
nascar fan
I just signed up with direct tv 3 months ago and I signed up because of Fx, Nat. Geo. speed and the fox sports channels, to me this is a breach of contract and I will go to small claims court to brake my contract! It only cost me another $18.00 but direct will have to send a represenative or lose the case. wake up direct
i can promise you if you black out my speed channel my fox sport channel my espn i will find it elsewhere and you will lose in the end. you can be replaced with a phone call do the right thing
I CAN THINK OF ABOUT 300 OTHER CHANNELS I WOULDNT MISS AT ALL BUT YOU PICK SPORTS AND RACING . THINK ABOUT IT YOU TAKE GOOD STUFF AWAY FROM PEOPLE THERE GOING TO SEE YOU DONT HAVE MUCH TO OFFER AND WE TAKE OUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE THEN MAYBE YOUR LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB CAUSE YOUR LAID OFF DONT STEP ON YOUR DICK.
Agreed. The only, and I mean ONLY reason I even agreed to go to Direct TV was for SPEED TV and thats it. All the other channels are just to fill down time. Take my SPEED TV and I will take you (Direct TV) OFF THE TV all together. If the 40% increase is true in this economy then well FOX…..YOU SUCK TOO!!!!
I watch every form of racing and SPEED carries most.
FIX THE PROBLEM JERKS
amen brother,if it goes off so does my direct-tv
I also want to keep NASCAR!
I will switch back to charter if they drop Fx and FOX!! I am a SOA fan, enjoy the games and all around signed up to GET my local channels. I HATE charter, but at least then I don’t have to worry about this shit! DirecTV better figure out, or I will be cancelling!!
I agree, There are so many useless channels on dtv and we have to pay for them. I’ll just watch what I want on the internet. So long dtv and I won’t have to pay and arm and a leg for it. And as far as fox goes they are about sex sex and more sex. It’s not family friendly at all.
Well people like me do watch fox sports channels and espn is all I watch. I don’t watch tv unless football is on, so they’d better get their act together, or they’ll both lose money from losing a customer.
I am with you, I am counting the days to cancel Directv.
I like Nat Geo but that is all I will miss from the fox network.
Ceo’s need to know that customers will not put up with this
and will go their competitors. 5mo and counting.
Obviously you don’t watch “Sons of Anarchy” on FX. I’ve already indicated to Directv if they cancel any of these channels, my subscription with them is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only thing I agree with you is that they are way too expensive.
My bill didnt go down when they took of g4! So i dont exspect it to go down if i loose fox and speed! My bill has gone up $70.00 in the 7 years i have had direct tv. I think i have paid enough to be able to keep the channels!!! I will be going to cable if this happens better internet anyway
Hmmm it is called inflation. I remember when gas was only 75 cents a gallon why the heck so much now??? Get real.
As far as the issue both are acting like children and need to figure it out most direct tv users have there service for the fox channels and not letting us watch them until you reach an agreement says a lot about your character.
Personally I have 9 receivers in my house and everyone is constantly recording a fox channel probably %90 speed channel. If they decide to drop longterm then goodbye directv as I really have no reason to pay for something I do not use.
I completely agree with the way companies deal with customers these days and it’s because as consumers we very passive and just that, consumers, not smart or involved consumers. Direct TV knows they can charge whatever they want and the cattle will follow. There are a lot of FREE HD TV channels out there and most premium channels are available on the internet which most people have. There will be a sway soon. Cable/Satellite is far too expensive. You’re paying $100 a month just to watch TV. That’s pretty sad. Smart people will migrate to internet TV, find things to watch of equal entertainment and pocket that $100 a month. This whole story just like last years with Dish is just a publicity stunt but what they don’t realize is these stunts are pushing customers away.
Amen to this post. I am stuck paying a monthly CirectTV fee at an apartment complex. I didn’t want to even have a TV at all, but I have no choice. I pay $35 a month for the very basic channels. I had to go buy a TV to watch them, or DirectTV would be just taking my money for nothing. There was no way for me to get out of this contract as it’s part of the apartment fees. Also, when they drop Fox on Nov. 1st, I still have to pay even though I’m losing channels. It doesn’t seem right, and I think I may sue my apartment complex and DirectTV for getting less of a product than what I was contracted for back in July. If I had a choice, (which I don’t here), then I wouldn’t have TV at all.
Why does it always feel like these notices of possible disconnect are just negotiating tools that get resolved at the last minute?
DirecTV, not unlike NatGeo, has really gone down the tubes. As soon as my contract is up they are history. As much as I do not like Charter, I would rather use their services with no rain/snow fade and no loss of channels due to a dispute with News Corp.
This happens every year with either one of the satellite companies or the cable firms. DirecTV is also pulling this nonsense with Belo-owned stations (local affiliates in 16 US markets).
We all know the drill – both sides appeal to the public, claiming the other side will be responsible when your “favorite shows” are not available on _______ (satellite provider) or ______ (cable provider). Full page ads will run in local papers, as well as nationals like USA Today.
In the end, both sides settle and the loser is the customer that ends up getting charged more. In some cases, getting charged for channels they may not even watch.
This is one more reason to demand a la carte pricing as an option. So contact your Representative or Senator (if they are not too busy being lobbied by big corporate interest groups).
The takeaway is this – when corproations fight over money, the public usually is the one that gets screwed.
As always, big corporations make more money, taking it from our pockets. We (the consumers) are always the losers, paying more, but not getting a better value for our money.
I agree. It’s just greed on the network owners – Fox and Direct TV. they make the money and the public gets taken to the cleaners – AGAIN.
folks, once again, demand for a la carte offering is such that if EVERYONE/all 90MM homes that pay for cable/sat tv want more than the four broadcast nets, USA, TNT, ESPN, TBS, CNN, Fox News, one discovery channel, HBO, Showtime and Starz, than calling for a la carte will work. That’s it. Maybe 15 channels tops would survive. Youd have to take all 15. The TV landscape would shrink by about 80 less channels in this la carte world. So if you enjoy any other channel for anything, at anytime, it would be gone. Just stating facts if that’s ok with you, fine, but not likely fine for others who want FX or E or TLC or Comedy Central. The idea of simply picking and choosing the channels you want and others picking what they want will not work. the model doesnt support this concept.
Sports and a few other network channels is all we watch. We pay for the premier package in order to get our sports. So if this deal isn’t settled, I will pay the fee to get out of my contract and directv will be history. We have had it for six years and have enjoyed it, but I’m not paying premier prices for sorry programming. I can pay the same amount to Charter and get everything DTV has.
I toally agree with Carthy!! You hit the nail on the head!! It wont be the cable companies or satellite companies that pay…It will be US!! Joe Consumer…paying more for less!!! Less quality AND DEFINITELY LESS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I only got Direct TV for the Speed channel…but if they take that away..I am not changing to another company….I will just cancel my service all together…..
And good luck get any of your Representatives or Senators to react!!LMFAO!!! They dont even know what time the noon train comes in!
As long as it’s worked out by April so I can watch the Dodgers limp through another season.
Too bad it isn’t fox news and fox business. I’d pay more money to have them gone.
how could this happen to 2 companies owned by newscorp? strange times
i can totally live without them… lower my bill
FOX NEWS would be no loss if it went dark.
But without Gretchen Carlson where would you get your daily dose of “Doh” ?
There is some kind of major manipulation of customers going on — all in the service of boosting prices on customers’ backs — because NewsCorp owns both DirecTV and FX!!!!
WTF?
As many others have mentioned elsewhere: wish they’d get rid of Faux News & all its Faux News channels — those I could definitely live without.
Anyway, this is bullpucky of the highest order — all to enrich the pockets of not-American-born tabloid king, Rupert Murdoch.
I second what Steven said i have been with Direct-Tv over 10 years and called them for the Velocity channel they told me it would be free in Augwhen annoucement was made. when i called to request the channel they told me it would be an additional 10.00 I said you told me there would be no problem and would be added to my package.I told them i was “pissed” and fed up with crap i paid for that i don”t watch like 9 channels of the Disney channel 6 channels of the Nick channel and the cartoon network. They told me they were sorry and did’nt want to lose me as a customer and offered me 3 months of Showtime to keep me I said no and told them the clock is ticking on them and will calling them for cancellation of my service!
Fix this NOW, Directv…I will not hesitate to dump your ass as my carrier if I lose SOA, Sunny in Philadelphia, American Horror, etc! And I’ll encourage everyone that I know with Directv to do the same.
Im with you , they pull FX there goes SOA and there goes ME
I agree with you if they have my SOA go dark for the last 4 episodes I will pull my contract and I know most of my family will as well. Is it really worth the risk?
I emailed Directv yesterday about this and of course, they’re the ‘victim’ in all of this. They’re saying FOX wants to raise the cost of the FX channel 40%-so what does that 40% increase come to? What if it’s an extra $5 a month to keep FX? I would HAPPILY pay that to keep FX. How about letting your customers in on this, Directv? Things are quickly heating up over on Facebook about this…you stand to lose MANY customers if this isn’t figured out by 10/31 and I WILL be one of those customers.
I have been with direct tv for 6 years and I don’t to have to go to Dish please keep speed,fx,natgeo and the others. in this economy they should be glad that we still want these channels.
thats what im saying, i would pay to keep fx my all time fav show is on it soa. there are so many soa fans, and direct tv will be losing alot of buisness
I, however, do not watch SOA… I’d be highly pissed if my bill was increased just because YOU were willing to pay an extra price. If I was DTV, I would stand up for what I wanted, too. By using a scaring tactic (forcing FX to choose by Nov. 1st)DTV is hoping that FX will agree to keep the current contract price. Of course, FX will not want to lose however many subscribers DTV has. If they don’t agree by Nov 1st, they will by Nov. 2. All of you loons that want to pay extra money just to watch SOA or sports, go read a book or go buy the seasons at walmart. It’s just entertainment. Maybe the show is good… not good enough that I’ll pay an extra $5-10 for.
I will be very po’d if they make me miss my soa its bad enough we had to wait those several months while it was on break, and now that its back, we might lose it. Direct tv will be slitting its own throat if they allow this to happen they will lose so much buisness.
I agree with Anna, if they have my SOA go dark for the last 4 episodes I will pull my contract and I too have family members and lots of friends who will do the same. The same goes for speed, espn, any sports channels, etc., which my husband enjoys. Is it worth the risk DTV to watch your bottom line, bottom out?
If they pull FX, I pull my DTV acct. Don’t play games. I pay enough each month that I shouldn’t have to deal with this.
Can’t wait to drop DirecTV. Just a few more months and I can say good bye. Big mistake when I decided to give them a try. Eight months to go.
I worked for DISH Network last year when we went through this basically same negotiation, it took a while to get sorted out. A couple months if I remember correctly. I feel bad for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans with DirecTV because it looks like this is going to be an amazing season. Not to mention all the other great programming FX has going on, and who knows how this is going to affect their football. Makes me glad DISH secured a long-term contract.
this has to get fixed. i pay alot for direct tv and must have fx channel for sons of anarchy!!!
Yay! No more GLEE or any other horrendous shows from this awful network. Hope they dispute and never carry FOX period.
Thus doesn’t affect the network’s owned and operated stations or the affiliates – juat the cable nets.
FOX channels aren’t going anywhere…just FX. And you do realize there is a nifty feature on your remote control where you can CHANGE THE CHANNEL if something is on TV that you don’t like???
You don’t watch them then fine. Why must everybody else suffer. I dropped DirecTV for cable because of this kind of greed.
I a direct cuustomer since Jan 2008 feel no pitty for them! since i am not a new customer it will coast me 100.00 a tv to upgrade to HDTV. Also where i live at,no broadband only hughes.net(<– Not good at all) so no matter how they spin it i can not use any of the services besides HD and standard tv. so the games direct tv plays with me is ok, but someone does the same thing to them, they scream foul. Well I guess it is time to go the DISH guy, at least i can get some HDTV with out it costing an arm and a leg, also get FX to boot.
I called wanting to upgrade to hd and they said it would be $100 per box so I didnt. Later I called back and they we like, “sure no problem!”. I can’t remember the details because it’s been so long, but when they came out they only brought two boxes instead of three. When I called about the third box they said i had to pay for it and didn’t know why I would have got the other ones for free. Well about a year later they called to try to sell me on some free upgrade. I said no i don’t want it but I DO want to upgrade my third box FOR NO CHARGE. They told me, sure no problem. Just pay a $50 install fee.” when I told them no thanks, I don’t want to pay anything they offered to do it for no charge. Seriously wtf!? So if they tell you it cost money, just say no sorry I guess I don’t really want it and I guess they give it to you for free?
I really hope that they work this out. I have had Direct TV since February and I love it, but I losing FX will be a big time bummer.
Work it out guys!
I truly hope that they work this out. We have been a Dir4ec6t TV customer since 1995.
I agree Work it out!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if this would be a breach of contract with Direct TV? Would love to switch back to Dish as we’ve had had nothing but problems with Direct TV since we switched over one year ago. It seems every time the wind blows the reception is lost or a drop of rain fall on the dish the reception is lost. Now they want to drop FOX.
Unfortunately no, it is not a breach of contract. DTV stipulates in the agreement that they can change whatever they want anytime they want.
Was it a breach of contract for Dish, too? I’m hearing lots of this breach of contract stuff. I highgly doubt it is a breach.
My husband & I, and my parents have been Directv customers for several years. We already pay enough for our service. Directv keeps adding more and more paid programming, home shopping, and infomercials, then have the nerve to try to take channels that might have good entertainment on them. No one can afford to pay highher rates for less channels. Fox carries a good portion of NASCAR races, and without that the fans will miss out on alot of the racing season. NOT GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS! Fox and Directv better get to an agreement and at a reasonable rate or they both will be losing alot of customers, viewers. That is not good for business for either side.
How can they cut out our channels when they gave them to us. That is a breach f contract!!!!!! If they take my channels that they promised me when I order it I will take tat as a breach oontract and fine another cable services.. I will not have a cable company that will not let me see S>O>A>
