EXCLUSIVE: Dylan McDermott has carved out time from his starring role in the FX hit series American Horror Story to join the cast of Dog Fight, the Warner Bros comedy that Jay Roach will direct this fall. McDermott will play Tim Wattley, a political consultant who runs the campaign of a candidate from South Carolina. Zach Galifianakis plays the candidate, and Will Ferrell and Jason Sudeikis reportedly will also star. Chris Henchy wrote the script. The film starts in November, but they’ve worked it out so McDermott can begin filming in early December. McDermott, who’s repped by CAA and The Schiff Co., most recently wrapped The Perks of Being A Wallflower and Nobody Walks.

Cranston is the only Tim Whatley this world will ever need.
Was just gonna say that. Why create another Tim Whatley when Cranston already made a memorable one? We want the original Whatley back!
tim whatley was the dentist on seinfeld
Any chance he will be so good in this new comedy show that we will leave American Horror Story? He is the weakest link in an otherwise stellar cast. I liked him in The Practice but I’m used to the greatness that is Kyle Chandler, with Connie Britton. I don’t want Chandler in AHS, I just want someone better than McDermott.
Political comedies are not funny.
Great news, McDermott is terrific, can’t get enough of that ASH.
Love Dylan McDermott in this, and everyone else, too…the casting is only one of the things that makes this show so great. And I know this is a little off topic (sorry!) but did you guys hear about this thing with DirecTV and FOX? I’m just glad I’m a DISH customer/employee right now…if the negotiations go south DirecTV customers could possibly lose FX…
