Following marathon negotiations, and with only a few hours to spare before the midnight deadline tonight, Fox and DirecTV have reached a new carriage agreement. The deal covers not only all Fox Networks that were in danger of going dark on DirecTV systems tonight — FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Speed,
Fuel TV, Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer Plus, Fox Deportes and Fox’s regional sports networks — but also Fox Broadcasting/the Fox local stations, whose deal with DirecTV was up at the end of the year, and Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, whose agreement was up at the end of January. “We both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming,” the two sides said in a joint statement. No information on the financials of the deal was released. DirecTV previously claimed that Fox was seeking a 40% hike, something the other side dismissed as ridiculous. According to sources, Fox has landed a healthy double-digit license fee increases in the new deal, which was closed early because all executives involved have small children and had to go do trick-or-treating. The power of little kids in Halloween costumes …

Anyone who didn’t see this coming is pretty naive.
Great. I was already to jump ship. But I have the same complaint about FMC. Why do they show the same movies all of the time? I would like to see some more variety in the movies they are showing. I am sure they have a lot of movies made during the 40′s why don’t they ever show them.
‘Fox has landed a healthy double-digit license fee increases in the new deal’,….oh oh, look for an increase in DirectTV’s subscriptions cost.
So how much is my DirecTV bill gonna go up?
The only problem I have with FOX Movie channel is they do a heavy rotation when there are hundreds of FOX films that rarely get airplay.
Not only that, but most of the “A” titles are already out on DVD!
They rarely show any of the existing “pre-merger” FOX FILMS and 20TH CENTURY PICTURES titles, and it seems to be the same hundred or so pre-1950 films that rotate in and out.
They’ve even “bleeped” some of the films! (and the print of the cult comedy classic, B.S.,I LOVE YOU is the edited TV version from a shoddy old 16mm!)
And who’s idea was it NOT to run any of the PLANET OF THE APES Films & TV Movies when the new film came out?
Great, so my Direct TV bill will continue to rise to pay for all those fox owned channels that I never watch. Really, I only watch the Fox network, never watch one thing on any of those other channels. Can’t believe it’s 2011 and we still don’t pay a la carte for our channels.
Fox and DirecTV reached an eleventh hour agreement? Doesn’t this happene every year with one of the sats/cables and their nets?
In the meantime, DirecTV is still in a pissing contest with Belo-owned local affiliates in 16 markets, but no signs of agreement yet.
I’m a DTV subscriber, too. I jumped ship deom DISH b’c of significant differences in rate tiers for programming and very shoddy customer service. At first word, I immediately looked into the background of the dispute. Afterall, the PSA’s weren’t forthcoming. Upon learning of the 40% increase, I decided its best to let it go, don’t sign the petition. Of all the channels involved, FX was the only one I used, and 40% uppage wasn’t woth it. Many of the shows I enjoyed on FX are off the air, or have jumped ship e.g. Damages. The only remaining show is American Horror Story… And there’s always the season on DVD. The new agreement, whatever it may be will be passed on in proce increases to the subscriber. But if I’m not finding much value in Fox channels, the it will be worth it for the other channels in the tier I do enjoy. FX and the one show I watch, is just a “free gift with purchase.” At least that is how I will choose to look at it. Cheers!
