Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter should be in a better mood today then Friday, when he spewed venom at bloggers in a Twitter rant. Halfway through SOA‘s fourth season, FX this morning renewed Sutter’s hit biker drama for a fifth season with a 13-episode order. The series starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Katey Sagal is having its highest-rated season. It’s currently the No. 1 scripted drama series on basic cable and is the highest-rated series ever on FX with an averaged of 5.8 million total viewers and 3.9 million adults 18-49. That is up +30% and +26%, respectively, vs Season 3. The Season 4 premiere September 6 became the most-watched program in FX history with 6.5 total viewers. On a multi-telecast weekly basis, Season 4 is averaging 9 million total viewers and 6 million adults 18-49. “Everyone at FX is very grateful to Kurt Sutter, his many writing, directing and producing collaborators and his masterful cast for making such a compelling and beautifully crafted show,” FX president John Landgraf said. “It is no small challenge to bring the themes of a great, ancient play like Hamlet into a wholly original television setting and to tell this complex story in a way that is both riveting and accessible to a broad audience.” Sutter executive produces SOA with John Linson, Art Linson and Paris Barclay. FX Prods and Fox 21 are producing.

Awesome! I love this show! I wonder how many seasons it can go, though. Once the truth of what happened to Jax’s father is revealed, I don’t see how the club won’t implode. I guess we’ll have to watch and see!
Kurt Sutter has said the story he wants to tell will take 7 seasons.
If the ratings remain strong, I believe he will get to do so.
Sure hope this show lasts 7 seasons. My husband and I are in our mid 60′s and discovered this show a few days ago; since then we have been playing catch up through the first 3 seasons on Netflix. It is soooo well written and the characters are so fascinating and multifacited, and the the show is so compelling that we have been staying up way past our bedtime everynight (1 to 2 PM)because we just have to know what is gonna happen next. The actors and acting is supurb. THX Kurt Sutter for writing such a gripping story.
Absolutely my favorite show! Looking forward to the coming year!
I watched the first couple episodes this season and I can see that it’s trying to move away from being a night time soap opera.
I’ll probably put this show back on my Tivo’s grab list.
Goood News..I watched the first like 4 episode of First Season but then never watched again..I plan on watching it straight thru by summer.Thebestwaytodoit.
I agree, definitely the best way to watch it.
Hated the third season and have real trouble with some of the plot devices set up so far this season.
Though in my opinion this is one of lesser efforts we have come to expect from the better ‘cable originals’ it is still better written and acted than 90% of other shows that are offered.
It may (or may not) become a ‘great’ show, but I will keep watching. That’s enough, isn’t it?
OH MY GOD! your one those impossible to please TV guys, you didnt like it very much… but its better than 90% of all the other shows out there, lmao, Jeez, Did you like The Wire on HBO? 24? …..What problems did u have with Season 3, bc honestly i know lots of people that watch this show that either don’t understand or completely miss a lot of the overtones and undertones. This show is about a lifestyle that not very people are familiar with in the least, I am very familiar with the life of a 1%er….what questions stick out in your head…..
It is a good dramatic show, and embraces the free biker lifestyle as well as the negatives of living said lifestyle. However, if you truly believe this to be an accurate representation of modern 1%er clubs, you are a fool. And if you truly were familiar with the life on a 1%er from personal experience, you wouldn’t be bothered about people’s possible misinterpretation of it on a comments section of an article. That is very much not the biker way. So get a life, and try and entertain yourself in more original ways than pretending to be a biker online. I’m not saying there isn’t crime amongst 1%er clubs in the modern era, but to suggest that SOA is close to the truth is just plain ignorance.
wow, what a rant! feel better? cuz you really sounded stupid and immature.
I still don’t understand why the played the Jax/Clay arc in season 2 and then abandoned it. Feel like they could have done the 3/4 season arcs earlier and not brought Jax and Clay to a head until later.
Love this show…one of my top “much” watched. Great drama and acting. Ride ‘em long and hard Kurt.
There’s not much positive one say about a so-called biker gang in which no less than the VP wears white tennis shoes. If you ride a hog, tennis shoes would melt from the engine heat, not to mention turn black from the road grime. Of course, the president of the club wears enough hair gel to choke a moose. This show is an insult to bikers everywhere, and Kurt Sutter is an embarrassment to all men with above-average testosterone levels.
Actually, Hunnam bases Jax on an actual HA biker that wore white tennis shoes. The biker was killed a couple of years ago and Jax wears a bullet around his neck as a “in honor of”.
Point taken, but the guy gets props for landing Sonny Barger in an episode.
Get a grip. It’s “Close-Enough-for-Governemnt-Work”. I have been in a club for years and this is still just intertainment. I see a war movie and know it can never quite be potrayed as it was when I was in it for real so relax and cihill out!!!!
yes your completely right..its entertainment for me i enjoy it all the way from australia cheers
cant please every one so critical dont analyse just watch love it all those people world wide cant be wrong us in australia love it
Seriously??? Just because you probably look more like Bobby Elvis than Jax, give it a break. Just go back to watching will and grace and let us enjoy the best show since the Sopranos!
My husband and I agree.
Easy to insult – Do you have a successful show on the air with 6mil viewers about bikers? Until you do, why insult those who are? immature
My boyfriend rides a bike and wears tennis shoes. You’re an idiot with a no brain waste of time comment.
i mean seriously if you feel so insulted by the show then why did you continue to watch it so long, no u didnt ur just wanna of those cry baby beaches that would whine about anything and evrything and i dont remember it saying this is a true story so why are you so critical anyways……its called entertainment and myself and my family find it to be the best show on tv at the moment and in many many years and cant wait for every episode to come on because everything else on tv lacks and skills in the writing department where kurt superbly excells so from all the other avid samcro fans im sure they will agree if we say change the channel bud if you dont like it because im sure your depiction of a current day motorcycle club would just be so entertaining and if you would like im sure you could prolly find a movie about hells angels or something else on the history channel or something on bio channel that maybe more p.c. for you to watch! again thx kurt for giving me the only reason other than the news to watch tv again!! or well sorry netflix mostly these days due to my schedule lol!
My favorite show. Ever. By far. Love Charlie Hunnam and Kim Coates. Whole cast is amazing and excellent, Katie deserves an Emmy but than Kurt would have nothing to bitch about.
Please don’t spew venom at me Kurt when I say I love the show – it’s “Buffy” for guys.
Agreed, this is my favorite show on television and one of only 5 shows that I religiously tune into. The first 2 seasons were nearly perfect, then the 3rd was so far off and away from what the first 2 seasons established that it made it hard to sit through. This season, so far, has been spot on and they are definitely back on top of their game. I hope that this continues and I can’t wait to see the direction they take it in… anything will be better than Season 3.
I’m having fun playing the “How many cast members from Deadwood Can You Spot?” game with this show too!
not to mention The Shield.
This show makes a laughing stock of bikers. Series 3 was so awful that I have not switched back.
well it is tv chill out and enjoy or dont watch it mmmmmm
Great, awesome show!! Sutter is a little bit entitled and douchey but gotta credit him for a job well done. Me and all my friends love the Sons.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show and the new season is better than ever. Who would’ve thought that a 50-something soccer mom in the ‘burbs would have any interest? The performances are what I watch it for- always a cut above. Thank goodness it’s getting ratings.
I think the show is AWESOME! Kurt Sutter is an extremely talented writer from the main story line to the little comic tidbits and puns thrown in. I’ve watched Seasons 1-3 already and to me, Season 4 is following along with the undertone I think Sutter is trying to portray….. in the end you “reap” what sow basically. Clay’s hands are giving out and he has no skills other than the club so he’s desperate to cash out. Gemma is loyal to Clay but in the end she will protect Jax and her grandchildren. Her destiny in life is to be a fierce mother, remember? Jax will find a way to protect his family.
As for Juice, he’s not dead. His character is just now coming alive. He is a soldier that was back into a corner. He didn’t deliberately betray his club and that should be taken into consideration by all you haters. I think somehow he will be redeemed. Maybe by the guilty conscience of the Sheriff or the aid of Chibs and it will be something between the two of them.
I too thought that it was coincidental that Lincoln Potter, the new AUSA, looked similar to the photos we’ve seen of JT. I don’t think it’s him, but I do think there’s a story line that is either going to develop between him and Gemma or him and Jax. They made his character laid back and a biker for some reason. Sutter is so brilliant, there’s no telling!!!!
Keep up the good work!
One of the most compelling shows on TV. Glad to hear it’s coming back!
Love this show great writers .. Keeps jumping from start to finish..
Hate when it’s over……
One of those shows that you really get into the characters. Very well written show
I am a subscriber to direct tv what cable co will keep sons of anarchy as i am no longer under contract will be willing to change i live in las vegas nv
This is one of the best show’s on cable TV ever…
who cares if it is true to life, only a real club member would no for sure any way, I think its a great show and hope Sutter will keep it going for a good long time, there is nothing else on Basic cable that I would even tune in for. Nothing!
Kurt you da man Bro…
tell Katie Hi WOW
I was pissed off when I found out that I was’ent going to be able to watch the rest of the sons- I enjoy this show to the point that I record it so I can watch it at a time when I won’t be interupted. I am also thankfull that Kurt Sutter was able to get the fans invalved to the point that Derict tv will still be showing it. For thouse of us that just renued our contracts with Direct tv droping them and going to another provider was not an opption. Thank you agin Kurt..
Watched every episode, got my wife into it at the end of season 2.Now were both hooked and look forward to each episode, not a big t.v. fan, huge Sons of Anarchy fan!!!
I absolutely love this show….I have no clue if it is true to a gang life and really could care less. I don’t want TV because it is mimics life. I watch this because Charlie, who plays Jax, is just drop dead sexy!!!!!!
I know what’s this Guy talking. Abt f he knew n e thing. Abt 1% he wld know hw bad ass this show is I’m no 1% but I’m a so-cal gangster that knows real 1% bikers and this show as close as its gonna get south being. Real
