20th Century figures seem to be the rage, from Colin Firth’s King George VI in The King’s Speech to Michelle Williams’ portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn to Meryl Streep’s upcoming turn as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. The next figure to watch out for: actress-turned-Monaco princess Grace Kelly. Shortly after his agents began circulating the Arash Amel script Grace of Monaco, producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam has agreed to fully fund a $15 million project that is now out to directors and will soon look for an actress to play Princess Grace. The film covers a half year period in 1962, when French leader Charles De Gaulle and Monaco’s Prince Rainier III were at odds over Monaco’s standing as a tax haven. France gave Monaco six months to reform its tax laws, and the situation escalated. By that time, Kelly (33 at the time) had given up her acting career to become a full time princess, and the film details her political manuevering behind the scenes to save Monaco. The CAA-repped Amel scripted the Aaron Eckhart-starrer The Expatriate. Who should play Princess Grace?

ANYONE BUT ANNE HATHAWAY.
Seriously. I’ve never agreed with anything more in my entire life.
Me too–not Anne Hathaway, please.
Agreed – Totally over Anne Hathaway scoring great roles with her dull and very predictable acting and movements.
She’s not a box office cash cow – when is hollywood going to realize this.
yes, please not her….
Kelli O’Hara. Tony Award nominee for Light in the Piazza, Pal Joey, and South Pacific. Martin Scorcese used her for a Grace Kelly-like turn in a spot he did for Freixenet. And she was most recently seen nationally during her performance at the National Mall on the 4th of July.
January Jones
theres no one else but her. thank you
no one cares at all that she can’t act? it’s like someone put a blond wig on a juniper
No way would she do it. She hates the Grace Kelly comparisons.
Looks? Maybe. Acting ability? Hell no.
Rachel McAdams. Perfect age. No more Carey Mulligan please.
Amber Heard looks a lot like her.
Agreed!!
NOPE Ame Adams looks like her not Amber, Rachel, Charlize and co, AMy yes ! (and a young Isabelle Huppert but she is too old now)
Conventional Choice – Naomi Watts
More interesting choice – Elizabeth Olsen
They say this takes place when Kelly is 33, so Elizabeth Olsen is far too young.
Adam Sandler
I agree… Add Rob Schnider as the Prince of Monaco and a few dozen f*rt and d*ck jokes and you have a biopic
Some people may diss her acting, but you can’t discuss a Kelly biopic without mentioning January Jones.
Why not?
Hell no, did you see X-Men? A mannequin with a blond wig could show more emotion than her.
Could it be anyone but January Jones? Not that she could necessarily handle the part, but she is a dead ringer.
I mean, come on:
http://madmenmad.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/grace-and-january.jpg
I think she’s been great on MAD MEN, though that’s all I’ve seen of her so far. Whether she can pull off a performance that doesn’t require her to be icy, cold, and aloof towards her husband is unknown, but she can always work with an acting coach. She’s a dead ringer for Princess Grace. Someone else mentioned Rosemund Pike, and I think they could be on to something. She’s not only beautiful, but definitely talented, and looks reasonably close enough to Grace.
But I digress. I don’t really give a crap about a Princess Grace movie anyway and wouldn’t be seeing it if it came out.
IMO they look nothing alike.
If she couldn’t handle the part why should she get it?
January Jones. I mean, that’s who she appeared to be modeled after in the first season or two of MAD MEN.
I think the perfect choice for Grace Kelly would be Sonya Walger of “Lost” and “Flash Forward”. While she may be a bit older, that is typical of casting anyway. The looks are almost identical at times. She is also great at displaying a compassionate tenderness as well as an unyielding sense of strength and determination as well. Unfortunately, she probably has no chance of getting and it’ll probably go to Charlize Theron or someone like that
I agree 100% Sonya Walger looks remarkably like Grace Kelly, and although she is lesser known, she is a great actress!
I’ve always thought Rachel McAdams looks rather remarkably like Grace Kelly, particularly when she smiles.
She’d be wonderful in a project like this.
I just posted that January Jones looks nothing like her. In comparison to Rachel McAdams though, January looks like Grace’s twin sister!
Saw a charming short film this summer called “Before Breakfast” with an unknown playing Grace Kelly — Elspeth Keller — an uncanny resemblance. This project is too big for the shoulders of an unknown, but all things being equal, she’d be a great candidate…
Any audition information? It would be a delight to be involved with such a wonderful project.
Amy Adams
Michelle Williams or Carey Mulligan.
With those eyebrows, maybe Lily Collins in about 15 years.
Never count out Cate Blanchett for a biopic.
What about Gwyneth Paltrow?
Or Katherine Heigl … LOL NOT!
Charlize Theron.
Yes, Charlize.
seconded.
Blake Lively as Grace Kelly and Gerard Depardiu as DeGaulle.
It’s too bad Lindsay’s career is in the toilet, er, morgue.
My first and second thought is Charlize Theron.
Meryl, duh. She can do a Monaco accent in her sleep.
There’s only one person who could emulate her gracefulness and stillness. Rosamund Pike.
Dang! That’s actually a really smart idea!
ELIZABETH OLSEN.
That Swedish actress who was on Nikita last week, Helena Mattsson. Not only was she gorgeous but a good actress and quite elegant.
Emma Watson or Rachel McAdams. Emma doesn’t look like Grace but has the same grace/elegance as Grace while Rachel looks like Grace but doesn’t convey the grace/elegance that Grace had.
Emma Watson????? Are you kidding? First rule of biopics…pick someone that can act.
