Hank Williams Jr apologized on his website today for using an odd President Obama/Adolf Hitler analogy. Williams’ comments on the Fox News Channel show Fox & Friends yesterday got him in hot water, and ESPN yanked his theme song from Monday Night Football over the controversy. Williams wrote the following message to his fans:
“I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist.” — Hank Williams Jr

Duh! A publicist wouldn’t have felt the need to hit caps lock so much.
Shift
“This was Not written by some Publicist.”
Clearly.
How exactly can two people be “Jukin” on a golf course?
Well, less give Hoss some due. At least he didn’t say Jewkin.
—full disclosure…I’m tribal.
He should just apologize for being stupid, period. What did that even imply, that the two sides should never even get together?
The open was tired anyway.
I think that’s exactly it: we need more division and partisanship in government.
Or he’s saying that there should only be one side in charge of everything, I guess, like a dictatorship…kind of like…HEY WAIT A MINNIT….!
Too bad for him he didn’t compare Bush to Hitler. He’d have gotten an Emmy and a Grammy instead of yanked.
Yes, just like the Dixie Chicks!
I would love to be shown evidence of any point where any member of the Dixie Chicks said Bush was Hitler.
ME TOO! SOUNDS LIKE THE FOX IS SLAPP’EN BACK
That’s not an apology, that’s a self-serving backtrack that doesn’t admit any wrong. He used the weasel phrase “if it offended anyone” which is just another way of saying the problem is yours, not his. And he absolutely compared Obama to Hitler. The extended interview makes that abundantly clear.
Whatever else he is, his right wing, tea-bagger bigotry and inability to comprehend a black man as president remains front and center.
Why should he admit wrong? What did he do wrong? Say something you disagreed with? That’s not wrong. That’s just tough for you, act like an adult and deal with it. Of course, the fact that you somehow think he compared Obama to Hitler because he’s black shows you probably don’t have the intelligence to do so.
BAD troll! Back to your bridge!
But it was perfectly fine when the Dixie Chicks said “I’m ashamed the president of the US is from Texas” and countless country stations stopped playing their records, there were record-burning sessions, death threats, etc. etc. Stomping on a Democrat for making an anti-Bush statement is okay, huh, Lethargic? Because, after all, she was a liberal. But knock a conservative for making a negative — and far more extreme — comment about a Democratic president and it’s making something out of nothing. Face it, even the guys at Fox News realized he was saying something he shouldn’t and tried to give him a chance to ameliorate what he said.
The difference is, well, in what was said. Words matter. Context matter. Expecting him to be intelligent about anything, maybe not realistic. Saying that I am personally embarrassed that GB was from Texas is a pretty straight forward opinion that can not be put to a test. And while what Hank Jr said is also an opinion, he improvised a comparison which 99% of thinking people would be hard pressed to find evidence for. That is – that Obama is LIKE Adolph Hitler. That’s something that can be put to a test, and we can rationally make a list of ‘likes’ and ‘not likes’. If he had had the common decency to say perhaps, ‘I don’t care for The President’s politics, like trying to create jobs and help the unemployed and poor.” I don’t think anyone would have cared. The sad part is less and less people in this country seem to actually understand what they are saying and what is being said. Not to mention the fact that in his world apparently people who disagree about things can’t talk to one another. Awesome. That’s a sure was to take care of controversial and difficult issues.
Well, actually, what he did wrong was state that the President of the United States is “the enemy.” Which, by definition, is treason.
Not to mention stupid.
Well, Hank once did a song and video called “If The South Woulda Won” so, he’s obviously not one to worry about treason, or what the colored people think or anything else.
you said it all.
he did not do anything wrong. Please educate yourself on analogy. I am sure you can find a wikipedia page.
Comparing to things that are not alike is not an analogy. That would be like my comparing you to horse.
Yes indeed. It’s no doubt my inability to understand the nuances of what he said. Such an honorable remark. Perhaps I’m not as bright as the average ‘Hank Jr.’ follower. I mean, reading what he said, it is perfectly clear what he meant. And I say that with a sense of ‘irony’, look it up.
Besides the whole Hitler thing, I think it’s asinine to suggest that two people from opposite political parties can’t play a game of golf together, as if there’s much difference between Democrats and Republicans anyway.
Those darn redneck hillbilly country music singers always stickin’ their foot in their mouth.
Hank is full of shit. This sort of talk is either condoned or not condemned on Fox, Kilmeade’s reaction notwithstanding, too often. It’s part of the GOP’s overall stance re: fascism/totalitarianism/socialism, and conflation of history re: Nazi Germany.
Typical non apology. yes, he admits it was a dumb statement, but then apologizes if it offended anyone. Not ‘I’m sorry I said it. I was wrong.’ In other words ‘I still hate obama and if I hadn’t gotten fired, I’d be sticking with it.
Which is pretty much the sentiment that’s being expressed EVERY time someone says “I’m sorry IF I offended anyone,” instead of “I’m a complete jackass and need to think before I open my pie-hole in public.” Saying sorry that you were offended by something I said isn’t anywhere near the same as apologizing for saying something offensive.
I totally agree. He apologized for offending people, but not apologizing for making the actual statement. Let’s go for some “change” with the ESPN song introduction. A new song from a new artist with 2011-2012 season.
Actually, he only apologized “if” he offended people. He didn’t apologize for offending people. Of for being offensive. Or even for just being a dumb a**.
How about a song from an artist who’s had a hit in the past ten years. Or twenty.
Uh oh. I think his non-apology “apology” will make matters worse for him.
I hated his Monday Night Football intro. I’m glad it’s gone. Please, say more provocative political insults, we don’t want ESPN bringing the intro back!
Not “IF it offended anyone,” you idiot. It DID offend many people and that was YOUR fault, not theirs.
That a B.S> apology. They should yank his sorry ass off MNF.
I saw the interview and my first reaction was that he was comparing complete opposites, like he could have said Castro & the Dali Lama. But because he made it real clear that he really hates Obama he screwed himself. I must say, he’s the real McCoy when it comes to being a red-neck!
A publicist would have had more misspellings and random capitalizations.
How does anything that he said make you think that he has a problem with the Presidents color? It would appear that you are the one that is blinded by race and not looking at the issues.
Listen here Junior. We all know your mouth is like a Mississippi watershed drain. Now put a tourniquet on it or else.
He should’ve hired a publicist. What a horribly written statement.
Williams is an idiot. The majority of Americans want compromise and for our leaders to work together to solve our nation’s problems. This go-it-alone tea party mentality is not what America is about; anyone not drinking the TP kool-aid knows it. And it goes without saying at this point, but that was not an apology.
Why all the debate? He’s a moron. An idiot? Which one is worse? Whichever one is more stupid, that’s what he is. The problem is, mainly, is that, being an idiot, a moron and stupid, he is too stupid to know he is stupid. It’s a real dilemma, all these stupid people. You can debate all night and nothing gets accomplished. He’ll remain stupid. Nothing you can do about it.
OOO-OOO!!! Goody-Goody! Another right wing Country weirdo you liberals “We-Never-Do-Or-Say-Anything-Wrong” can stomp all over!
sounds good to me- LOL
You keep growin’ em’, we’ll keep cuttin’ em’ down, son.
So HankSaid it? Get over it. Im glad he said it. Good Ole Country Boy!
It didnt offend me at all. Hank has a right to his opinion. he was wrong for even apolygizing. Good Ole Country Boy!
Well, you’re clearly a reasonable, intelligent, non-rednec. So if it didn’t offend you, it shouldn’t offend anyone.
I didn’t even know Hank Jr. was still hanging around country music. Does he still make records? His ignorance is amazing.
The most amazing and offensive part of Hank Williams Jr.’s appearance on Fox News was not his analogy — hold up, for you Hank followers an analogy is a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based. This would be his comment about Hitler and that Jewish guy none of you have ever heard of. No, the most offensive part was when the frankly shocked Fox correspondents asked him if we was comparing Obama to Hitler and Williams rolled his eyes and nodded approvement. Like Obama or not, the President of the United States can not in any way be compared with a man reposnsible for the death of 6 million human beings. I dearly hope Williams is stripped of his football gig and what’s left of his carrer.
