NBC has given struggling sophomore dramedy Harry’s Law an order for six additional scripts. Because the series was a midseason replacement last year, its original second-season order was for 13 episodes. While short of a back episodic order, the script pickup still represents a vote of confidence for Harry’s Law, which has faced an uphill battle in its new Wednesday 9 PM slot this fall. But while its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 rating has been underwhelming, stuck at a 1.2 for the past two weeks, the show received some good news yesterday when it got a 42% lift in Live+7 to a 1.7 demo rating. Additionally, David E. Kelley’s legal dramedy, which seems perfectly suited for Friday night, draws substantial audiences, most recently averaging 8.5 million viewers in Live+SD. (For premiere week, the series’ viewership grew to a 9.8 million viewers after a 30% DVR bump in Live+7.) NBC brass also has been behind the show, most recently running back-to-back repeats of Harry’s Law in primetime this past Saturday.

This is NBC’s lowest rated show (in the demo) below even the now canceled “The Playboy Club”. I’m shocked that they are even paying for the scripts, but I guess it shows that total viewers does mean something after all.
OML, poor NBC, ordering additional eps with a 1.2 average.
NBC Exec – “Lets order 6 more scripts, that way we can waste more money on a show that no one watches and no one likes!”
8.5 mill isn’t exactly “no one”!
I love the show. Love it love it. I don ‘t watch all of the other Law and Order shows so not the same ole same ole to me. I not only love Kathy Bates, I love all the characters. Must admit I did like first season concept . But last couple of episodes this season have def held my interest.
Great news. It’s a really good show and even the changes they made this season, though not needed, work. Now just let it be on demand and online legally for those who can’t see it and release season 1 on dvd.
Translation: We don’t have anything else better. Love Kathy Bates, but no one in the demo watches this show.
I did originally like this show, but now that they “WHITE WASHED” it and turned it into a bad Boston Legal clone. Not so much.
what happened? started out different , edgy and unique. Now just another boring law show very similar to all the rest, current and past. Like the original way it started, won’t watch at all now. We miss u original show, hope you get resurected.
i agree – it was good until they changed everything…now it is the same ole…
Yes, I REALLY looked forward to the premiere, and then she walks into an elevator??? 2nd floor huge law firm. What the–? Every other scene is now slow motion walking with Boston Legal rock over-score.
Even though the demo is so low, it’s one of, if not the highest, rated NBC drama series in total viewers. They’d be foolish to lose those 9 million viewers.
Indeed. Most of NBC’s drek can’t even manage six million.
Free Britney Snow! She deserves better than this drek of a show.
She’ll be a big TV star again on a good show.
In fact, I bet she’s kicking herself that she wasn’t available to audition for Beth Behrs part on “2 Broke Girls.”
Snow isn’t a series regular any more. She’s free.
She is no longer a series regular, and she was permitted to pursue pilots last season.
The changes to this show made no sense. I like what I watched last season – but this year – not so much. But when you’re David E. Kelley you can get this kind of attention and make a Wonder Woman Pilot too ;-p
Yeah, Harry dealing with the crazy neighborhood she was in and taking on tricky seemingly-unwinnable cases for poor, desperate people was what made the first season so entertaining. As well, Harry trying to restart her life and find more meaning in her legal career was fascinating to watch. Now…bleh. It’s turning into yet-another-lawyer show.
What a shame. Finally got a good show and no one likes it. I just love Kathy Bates and she is a wonderful change from all the male crazy lawyers!! Love a woman with a gun!!!!! Hope more watch and see a real actress in motion! Keep this show!!!
Six shows or not…it’s cancelled. Really bad show
This is the last show I watch on NBC. If cancelled NBC see will not be watched by me.
Harry’s Law is the first NBC show I watched since Las Vegas went off the air.
I have little regard for the demo; how can you respect people who watch Jersey Shore?
Don’t interpret that no one watches the show. It’s low rated in the prize demo but it has the most viewers of almost any NBC show.
Lets get real for a minute..NBC cant be picky..what are they gonna do?..cancel there whole primetime schedule??..NOTHING on the network is a hit..right??..
With a couple of reservations, I really enjoyed Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot. It brought a fresh take to the character, and was a lot of fun. Still surprised that NBC knocked it back. Compared to that fate that befell The Playboy Club, I wonder if NBC have any regrets too.
Bring back Spader for a guest shot and throw in Christian Clemenson and Meredith Eaton!
And William Shatner. And Candice Bergen, but that goes without saying. Add Betty White and it’ll be an awesome show!
@Janet – you called it! I just saw a “Harry’s Law” preview with Christian Clemenson in it. He’s meeting with Harry who calls his attention to the fact that he has a nail protruding from his head. New episodes of “Harry’s Law” will start airing in March and I can’t find ep info as of now. Maybe Nellie can access his CI assets!
Wow, a lot of nonsense information here.
.
First, Live+7 numbers are meaningless. Advertisers use Live+Same Day, so that’s what the networks have to use.
.
Second, Total Views are meaningless. Advertisers use the demo of adults 18-49. A show with 7.4 million total viewers and a 1.2 rating of adults 18-49 will NOT be worth more to advertiser or network than a show with 5 million total viewers and a 2.0 rating
of adults 18-49.
.
Third, the additional Harry’s Law eps signal not a confidence in a 1.2 rated show, but rather a lack of confidence in its mid-season replacements and current lineup.
.
NBC’s lineup this season is so horrific that just this last Monday NBC was stomped in every aspect by not only Univision, but the USA Network (cable tv).
.
When NBCU dumped Ben Silverman & Jeff Zucker, I was hopeful. When NBCU brought back Angela Bromstad, I was hopeful. When NBCU was bought by Comcast & Bob Greenblatt took over, & spent a mountain of pilot money, I was hopeful.
.
NBC’s choices for primetime shows has been so bad that even in this economy producers don’t want their shows at NBC unless every other network has already passed (including several cable networks).
.
However, I believe in credit where credit is due. NBC was smart enough to dump the Wonder Woman show after the pilot was shot down. I’ve actually seen the unaired WW pilot and it’s just bad enough that I’m really glad it was not given a episode order. It would surely have tanked & yanked before midseason.
I don’t agree with what most of you are saying. I think that Harry’s Law is one of the best shows that has come along in quite a while. Both my husband and I find it very entertaining and couldn’t wait to come back this season to begin. There are a lot of new “loser” shows this season and wacky ones that keep coming back. Let the teenie boopers watch there silly shows and those with a desire to watch talented actors portraying characters in a show that has a story to tell, have what they want too. I hope to see Harry’s Law for years to come.
It’s a fine show, and the low numbers are VERY easily explained by looking at the schedule. Its about the stiff competition from other shows. If NBC moves it the numbers will go up.
It’s hilarious to hear people who are fans of shows like Harry’s Law and Castle, which are losing the demo war, talk about all those viewers. I’d be willing to bet some of these same people snarked about the demos of shows like Cold Case, WAT and The Unit, which had solid viewer numbers and only middle of road demo numbers.
Last year this was a great show. But this season the show isn’t the same show. Last season the office was in a shoe store in the hood. It was just Harry with a receptionist, another attorney, a receptionist, and a student. People from the neighborhood came for help. She had some other clients and dealt with other attorneys. This yea
sorry. Continued from prev comment. This year the office is on the 3rd floor with more attorneys, wealthy clients, no neighborhood residents, no receptionist or law student. It’s like Dr Huxtable working in an office building with the kids visiting occasionally. The show isn’t the same. Bring back the old Harry. It worked. It didn’t need fixing. It was different. Now it’s just another lawyer show.
I agree that the new Harry’s Law has lost its apeal. Last year it was a breath of fresh air to have a show that had a message as well as humor. Now it has dumped its popular cast members and quaint neighborhood to become just another law show with bickering law partners and rich clients. It is not the same and I so wish the people who make decisions hadn’t messed with a good thing. Shame on you.
I personnally loved Harrys Law the opening season but they changed it so badly that if it is kept this way I will not watch.. I enjoyed the getto setting the shoe store and her people where has it all gone how can you change something so drastically. do not get it it was a good show..

It’s like Boston Legal without Spader and Shatner … who made Boston Legal good/great.
Here here….these are the same reasons that made me watch.
Add Valerie Harper to the cast and the ratings will pop chemitry will be great!
