EXCLUSIVE: The hot role for young actresses is in Universal’s Joseph Kosinski-directed Tom Cruise science fiction film Oblivion. Jessica Chastain already signed on for one of two plum roles, and I’m told the studio will read three actresses for the other female lead this weekend in Pittsburgh. That is where Cruise is shooting One Shot, playing Jack Reacher in the Christopher McQuarrie-directed adaptation of the Lee Child novel series.

Captain America‘s Hayley Atwell, Inglourious Basterds’ Diane Kruger, and Kate Beckinsale have made it to the lightning round to play a mysterious young woman who crash-lands on earth much to the shock of Cruise’s character, a soldier who is one of the last men on the planet in a post-apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds above an earth surface that has been rendered uninhabitable. Cruise’s character is alone as he repairs the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form, until he encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.
Universal committed to finance and distribute the $100 million film last April, after Disney let it go because it didn’t fit the family film mold. The script by William Monahan got a rewrite from Karl Gajdusek. Kosinski hatched the idea for the project and set it to be published by Barry Levine’s Radical Media graphic novel imprint as a calling card for a movie when Kosinski was busy for so long directing Tron: Legacy. Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark are producing along with Levine.

Sounds very interesting. Let’s hope the whiz bang tech doesn’t become the star and our star realizes there are other people in the movie
Hayley Atwell is voluptuous, gorgeous, sexy and beautiful. She’s amazing. That woman is incredible. She’s a very talented actress. I hope she does more American mainstream movies from now on and begins her ascension to the A-list.
Hayley all the way. Tom, if you don’t pick her at least give her my phone number. In fact, just do both.
I agree about Atwell. I can totally see her in this role. She totally stands out – in a good way. Kruger? God no. That woman can’t act her way out of a paper bag. And considering that her supposed boyfriend is the known ex of his ‘wife’ I don’t see that happening. For once we can all hope that Cruise’s controlling powers does work. LOL!As for Becks, her husband isn’t directing is he? Otherwise I’d say she would get the role. LOL!
I love Beckinsale
Kate Beckinsale who has starred in several movies, including one of the biggest female-led sic-fi franchises, is auditioning opposite relative newbie Hayley Atwell and confined hack Diane Kruger?! Time for a new agent, Kate. WME is clearly not all they’ve cracked up to be.
Tom Cruise IS Wall-E!
Come on, you were thinking it too.
I just started to write the same comment. Who will win the coveted role of Eva?? Will they include those iconic Hello, Dolly! moments?!
Battlefield Earth.
Kruger all the way!
Atwell and Beckinsale are like interchangeable robots.
Kruger’s smoking hot AND she’s got the acting chops. After seeing her in Inglorious Bastards I can’t believe she even has to audition. Say what you will about Tarantino, but he is money when it comes to recognizing talent.
Really? I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not. I really hope you are being sarcastic. LOL!
Kate Beckinsale??? Really? Does anyone like her? I love Hayley, but I think it’s Diane’s to lose.
put all three of them in the movie!!!
Kruger is god awful. When are they going to stop trying to make her happen in the US. Every movie she’s in you forget she’s in it until you realize her accent change to another dialect. If she was so great in IB, why hasn’t she done anything ‘big’ since?
Atwell FTW! She’s perfect for this role!
Well Katie’s contract is probably up soon…..
William Monahan? Sci-fi? Really? … Completely unexpected.
People live in the clouds, no one on the planet’s surface…. OOBA DOOBA, IT’S THE JETSONS!!
Kate’s a pro at this type of role and she’s smokin. I’d take Hayley over Kruger.
I agree about Kate being a pro for this role and she is indeed hot. I do think that Hayley is also a good choice for the role too and has a ‘beauty’ about her. Kruger? Every time I hear her name I cringe. Just no. Let’s stop with her already.
Kruger? Clearly someone owes someone’s agent a favor cause that can’t be a legit ‘read for’ option. If she’s on the list, how is Jessica Biel not on this list?
To hell with these three- I wanna know who Chastain’s been blowing to get cast in all these movies.
Aw, I always feel bad for anyone competing against Diane Kruger.
“Kate Beckinsale??? Really? Does anyone like her? I love Hayley, but I think it’s Diane’s to lose.”
Yeah, I like her. She totally destroys the other two, and it’s not even close. What the fuck do you know? Not a damn thing. Nobody gives a flying shit about your opinion, least of all Kate Beckinsale.
“Kate Beckinsale who has starred in several movies, including one of the biggest female-led sic-fi franchises, is auditioning opposite relative newbie Hayley Atwell and confined hack Diane Kruger?! Time for a new agent, Kate. WME is clearly not all they’ve cracked up to be.”
Yeah, she’s really struggled to find any work. She’s only starred in Contraband with Mark Wahlberg, Underworld 4, and Total Recall with Colin Farrell, all this year. Not to mention she has two other starring roles that have yet to be shot, including one with Sigourney Weaver. So she’s doing horribly. It’s such a tragedy.
Jack – Seriously?
Please… Let’s get real. Diane Kruger is a piece of wood! She looks fabulous on a red carpet but after many, many great opportunities when she comes onscreen it still feels like somebody threw a chair into the room.
Other two are classy, talented actors.
Kate Beckinslae is incredibly talented!!! Hope she’ll get this role.
*Beckinsale
Put me down as an Atwell fan. Didn’t see CAPTAIN AMERICA but I fell for her in Woody Allen’s CASSANDRA’S DREAM.
What a stunner…
Atwell, Beckinsale and…….. Diane Kruger?????
Is this some kind of joke?
Diane Kruger, in a normal world, should never have gotten any further than her high school theatre club play. Please make it stop now. We have had enough.
